Exactly. Bobby's own words this weekend..

"I’m loving my time at Collingwood,” he told foxfooty.com.au.

“I just want to play footy, (have) more success in Grand Finals.

I’m not focused on anything else; just playing my footy at Collingwood.

I’ve got two more years – it doesn’t mean anything with obviously the contract on hold"
For the record, Hill has extended his stay with us until 2030, I believe :)

Wasn’t great to hear J Ralph last night say Mihocek and Cameron were upset over their contract negotiations

Regarding Mihocek, he’s a fan favourite, we love him, he’s been a loyal servant to the club. He was a late starter to the game. He’s now got a young family. Nobody would begrudge him getting a few years and a healthy contract.

But given he’s the oldest of the MMM’s, we’ve signed McStay until the end of 2027, Membrey until the end of 2026, we’ve now got Westy and Noah Howes in the wings. We’ve got a decent contingent of small forwards - Elliott is in career best form justifying a new contract, and Hill and Schultz wouldn’t have been cheap. What portion of our salary cap can we reasonably justify paying Mihocek?

Think the problem is how much we're paying players like Perryman, who is excellent and reliable but isn't at the level of either Mihocek or Cameron. With all the older players we're signing there's even less to go around.

I could see arguments for resigning both Mitchell and WHE after last night. Who DON'T we re-sign? Cox, Macrae, Dean, AJ, one or two of the younger boys? Which means some need to take under their value. Or we trade some out. Mihocek to Carlton? 😧

I think you’ve answered the question. Don’t resign any of Cox, Macrae, AJ, Dean and replace them at the draft. Who knows if we will be able to keep Allan but if big money gets thrown at him, maybe better to accept the trade value that would bring. Maybe a fringe player like Sullivan or might wish to seek a trade for better game time elsewhere. WHE could be retired off or given a reduced one year deal as is common for players at the ends of their careers. Maybe we offer Mihocek slightly unders but show him a two year deal as a sweetener. Maybe we pay Cameron what he deserves but backload it if necessary, will be tons of cap room in later years

We will get there, we always do.

Agree.

If we do win the 2025 Premiership then nobody will complain about the deal we gave Perryman (just as nobody has complained about the deal we gave Mitchell)

+ Houston wouldn’t have come cheap.

Cox, Macrae, Dean, AJ, one or two of the younger boys?

AJ is an obvious one. And an unfortunate example of a player who signed a contract extension then immediately fell off a cliff. Hopefully that won’t happen often. I do hope in the remaining VFL games he finds his best form and gets another go at it … but it won’t be at Collingwood.

Macrae will join Gault and Kelly in the 5 year club.

Dean will probably be superfluous to requirements with Reef coming back and Ilro moved back and reportedly about to sign a contract extension.

We don’t have a lot of “younger boys” to delist? I think Cochrane, West, Hayes, Harrison, HDM, TJ, Reef and Ryan are all contracted. And then there is Wil Parker who is out of contract but IIRC can go around again on the Cat B list for another year so he can’t really free up a list spot unless Leppitsch brings a hoard of talls back from America.

Which means some need to take under their value. Or we trade some out. Mihocek to Carlton? 😧

It would break my heart too, but I struggle to see how we keep him.

Two of those will be replaced by Reef and Harrison when they come off the LTI list.

Leaving only two to take into the draft.

We will get there, we always do.

Not always, but our ability to recruit players like Long and Roan who quickly have impact gives some confidence.

Three is almost enough to take to the draft. So almost there. Mitchell or WHE could be rookie listed. Also no guarantee Howes gets an extension beyond his initial 6 month term.

Would be a shame to lose Mihocek but Cameron takes priority. Totally understandable if he looks elsewhere, he’s been vocal about the dussapointment of being overlooked for six years so if he wants to squeeze every minute out of the end part of his career, that’s perfectly reasonable. As long as he’s a dual premiership player when he leaves!

The other thing re Cameron.. if we lose him we will have to go into the open market to replace him with a ruckman who is likely to be inferior but cost just as much. We don’t have any ready mades on the list as yet with cox and Steene/Smit at polar ends of their careers and smit training in defence.

So from a salary cap perspective , its essential we reward him appropriately so that he wants to be a Pie for life.

His management know that and I’m sure it will all be agreed soon enough. It’s all just contract fun and games at present.

Dwayne Russell:

John Noble has been a great addition for the Gold Coast. Joe Richards has been a good edition for Port Adelaide. Both of them came from Collingwood.
“You’ve got to get the spill over from one of the good teams. Don’t go and recruit from one of the lower teams, go and get a spill over.
Tom Mitchell might be available as a leader, he might not get a game in the finals, and he’s still got a season or two left.
“Can you steal Lachie Sullivan? He might not get a game going forward with Lachie Schultz back. Is there a chance you could go and grab Charlie Dean or Ned Long? could you prize out Ed Allan with a really good contract? Wil Parker (as well)?

I think Dwayne’s hit ( mostly) the nail on the head. Sullivan certainly could be one that walks and we know the WA teams have been sniffing around Allan. Could Mitchell go to a fourth club or would he want to? Not sure there would be much appetite for Dean.

Doubt Long would go elsewhere. And no reason for Parker, either.

Although he did fail to mention that Richards and Noble weren’t really “spillovers”…. More trade bait.

I'd be annoyed to lose Allan, Long and Parker. But would not mind trading the others -- Mitchell probably wouldn't have suitors. Dean I suspect would be picked up as insurance by a lower down the ladder team. Sullivan might attract a fourth round pick.....

Absolutely. I think we’ll easily keep long and Parker. I expect we will keep Allan too and he might be the most important one of the lot

Jon Ralph dribbles shit.

There’s a frustration among some senior premiership players around their contract statuses according to AFL Media’s Riley Beveridge.
With a handful of star players above the age of 30 and out of contract, Collingwood is refusing to offer some big names long-term deals given their age.

As things stand, Beveridge says the Magpies have offered Brody Mihocek and Jeremy Howe one-year deals which are yet to be signed, while he also says they’re not budging on their offer to Jamie Elliott despite the small forward being in All-Australian form.
With news of the club’s pursuit of free agent Jack Silvagni also coming to light in recent weeks, Beveridge believes the frustration is growing for some players including ruckman Darcy Cameron who is chasing an improved deal.

It seems the Gettable guys have copied & pasted Ralph's drivel, except they have now included the potential recruitment of Jack into their spiel.

And you copied & pasted what they said.

Our veterans are in negotiations. We know that. I can't imagine why those players would be expecting long term deals from us.

Yeah, clearly I copy and pasted -- that's why I said "From AFL/SEN". It's called sharing.

Phew, we can all breathe easier now. We were worried you hadn't heard. A mod was about to send a message via pigeon. 😂
