Some notes

Cant stay on our feet - still slipping over all the time
Cant control the ball and skills were pretty low.
Low pressure exerted on them

Needed the 4 points and too many put there diint do any where near enough to help get that done.

Neale kicked 5 which was good
Stewy was good but hobbled by an ankle
Jezza hurt a groin and limped thru
PFD really didnt lead but got some me me me moments in during the game
Zuth, COS, Atkins, Mullin, MOC all tried hard
Stevens back to earth with a thud - hard day for him but hardly alone there.

Close, Humpries, Blitz, Stanely all kind there.

Biggest issue is both GWS and Lions have ogtten a hold of us the same way more than once this year.

Will ahv eot recharge and go again next week..

but its not gonna be easy

Need to find a way, reset and comeback better next week

some really interesting umps calls but they didnt make a difference at the end... we just not good enough.

After that Giants burst in the second we played like a team who knew the opposition had their number. Had a bit of a tactical revival in the third but other than that, very poor.

Really disappointing performance that exposed a few growing concerns for this 2025 model Geelong side.

Adam Kingsley's Giants picked us apart clinically at times, their centre clearance dominance was particularly damaging.

Our coaches, in their wisdom, decided to start in-form Max Holmes on a back flank and it did not work, and although the team got off to a bright start Holmes was unsighted for most of the 1st quarter and by half-time had only 6 disposals to his name.

George Stevens came back to Earth with a thud this week, given early opportunities in the centre he was largely anonymous before eventually being subbed.

Patrick Dangerfield's form since coming back from his early-season hammy has been patchy at best, tonight his composure in front of goal was not acceptable for a player of his experience - we're all well-versed in Ollie Henry's weaknesses but if you give him 4 shots on goal of varying difficulty he'll generally convert a couple of them. What am I saying? I'm not sure. I know he is on his last legs but perhaps it's time to at least start Danger in the middle and let him drift forward. Not sure.

Ollie Henry as the sub isn't the way forward. Either he locks down his forward line role or goes back to the VFL and learns to broaden his game. To be fair to him that 3rd tall forward role is a tricky one to balance.

Bailey Smith looked rusty, got a lot of the ball but inflicted little damage. That happens, but it is his sloppy defensive game that frustrates me more than his turnovers.

There would only be a handful of games this year in which I give that side of Smith's game a 'pass' - I get that Tom Atkins mitigates Smith's lack of accountability to an extent, but nonetheless there are times when Smith needs to knuckle down and nail his tackles. We don't need any Luka Doncic's in this team, whereby the stats look impressive on paper until you tally what's leaking the other way.

I think it was Turbocat who opined Shannon Neale had been unlucky and a touch harshly done by in our loss against the Lions a couple of weeks ago. I thought he suffered through a tough night again this evening, conceding no less than 5 barely-there free kicks in the 1st quarter. To his credit he kept his head and made the most of his chances with 5 goals.

Connor O'Sullivan got toweled by Aaron Cadman. O'Sullivan had some nice moments here and there, but ultimately lowered his colours. I wouldn't mind seeing him freed up at some stage this season, but it probably won't happen any time soon given SDK's absence.

Tricky engagement with St Kilda next week, underestimate them in any way shape or form and the season could suddenly teeter despite the bleatings about our easy run home.

Well that was fun. Yelled at the tv more than I have for sometime.
They were vg and we were very ordinary. Maybe they are finally finding some convincing form? We didn’t play well enough, didn’t apply nearly enough pressure, poor decisions and poor execution. And can’t understand why- we are a much better team than that. Think it’s in our heads now. Ah well. Annoying. Some of our guys tried hard all night but to no real effect.
How did they pick up Cadman in the draft? Number 1?
Congrats to Whitfield - been a wonderful player for a long time.

The umpiring was country grade but had little effect on the outcome.

We were simply outplayed.

Our skills and decision making were poor, they were too fast and we couldn't cope with their pressure.

They have our measure. Simples.

Far out it feels painful when we lose. I’d like to care less if I’m honest
We win more than most and have done so for 20+ years. Got to be able to cop our medicine when it comes. It sucks against Carlton and St Kilda, but let's face it GWS and Brisbane have more talented lists for obvious reasons. Most years our talent probably falls around 6th-10th in the comp, but we end up making a prelim before being beaten by a better side.

Last 2 tests against Lions & GWS we’ve failed miserably, just not good enough. 4 of our 6 losses have been against them.

I’d like to think we can still win it but if I’m being honest, don’t think this year we’re good enough, too many holes, especially in midfield.

I don’t understand the coaching. It’s obvious Cameron was injured.

WTF would you sub a healthy kid, leave Cameron on and be exploited by his opponent every single time the ball left the forward line.

Can anyone make sense?

Given Dangerfield was awful also, why wouldn’t you sub Cameron and replace with Henry then at least you have another player who can play in mid rotation.

Very strange coaching behaviour.

agreed feel like this year could be the last for a while of being a real chance with our core getting older with danger, stanley etc

Honestly just a shit loss and nothing really to learn from.

We were simply poor, and those who we require to drive the team and fortunes simply had stinkers.
Smith had a bit of the ball but was poor with it, and even worse without, Danger showed a complete lack of desire and leadership, Atkins was well down and beaten, Holmes had moments of brilliance then moments of stupidity, MOC swayed between average and putrid and in general our ball use was atrocious.
Jez was injured and horrible, Stewart was injured and good, Miers was very good, Neale had a good game and in particular a great response after a poor patch where the umpires and his opponent got to him mentally, great signs to then reset and produce, other than that there were a handful of guys who could hold their heads up and maybe another handful who had good moments but that's about it.

Ball use poor. Decision making poor. Accountability poor. Defensive running poor. Somehow though the umpiring was even worse.

We're not as good as we think we are. It's that simple. Biggest paper tiger going around. Can't see us doing much damage deep into the finals.

If the AFL was as ruthless as the NBA there would be a few guys getting shipped off in the offseason as they are unlikely to be in our next premiership team.

We are soft, we leak goals like no tomorrow. We always press up too high and we get exposed badly but it feels like we have no adjustment to that. It's pretty frustrating.

They have our number, that's for sure. Bright early start, but once the Giants discovered their run, they really controlled the game. We also had fumbles at crucial stages early on, then those two run ons, the 2nd quarter early, and then the Cadman explosion when he kicked almost all the Giants goals in the 2nd half, along with perennial Cat-lover Stringer. Not just at KP anymore, they really just have 100% confidence they have the best of us.

Need to regroup, can still finish in a good spot on the ladder but I fear we are lacking a bit from the top level talent this season. A PF loss is about the best we can look to get to I feel.

Game didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. 4th and then beating Collingwood in week one is still our target.

I'd be going stevens and Henry out and stengle and ted in next week. Mullin could be somewhat vulnerable too but I think they will stick with him.
