Question for those who have been watching the game.

Is the pitch a nightmare to bat on ...... OR ...... are we just batting badly.

What would be a competitive total to set them. ?

Bit of both. Batting under lights in a day night test is never fun regardless of the pitch.

We picked 4 quicks for the first time since 2012 despite Lyon averaging under 20 for the series. Pink dukes is very hard to face apparently. We've almost certainly got enough as is.

Lots of seam movement and swing. To the point where even Smith was just throwing the kitchen sink at everything under the lights on day one because he had no confidence just playing each delivery on its merits.

Aus batting hasn’t been good, but the last few matches have been played on quite bowler-friendly wickets.

Critical first session tomorrow. If we can make it through to the dinner break we should have enough runs under our belt to winkle them all out by the close of play.
I reckon batting time is more important than the runs. Would much rather have to start bowling to the West Indies under lights compared to early arvo.

It’s the biggest issue with D/N tests imo - batting under the lights is so much harder than daylight the result can be skewed if one side consistently bats the final session like we have the first two days

That and pink ball tests rarely make the 5th day and a lot don’t even make the 4th

I guess I was more talking about making sure we didn't lose 4 for f-all at the start of the day than anything else.

We don't want to give them a sloggers chance to chase 200-215 in the 40-50 overs prior to the night session, if we crash out in the first half an hour or so today. If we get to Dinner we should have 250 lead up and be holding the whip hand.

I think we are good enough to take wickets with the new ball during the second session and then polish them off under lights. I think the risk of getting the new ball under lights is that it does too much and we struggle to take wickets. I'd rather have 20-25 overs on it and have had full use of the new ball conventionally.

I doubt that it is very plausible that we bat deep into the second session. If we somehow bat 2 full sessions we will easily have too many runs for them as they will be chasing 300+. I just don't think they have in them against our attack, day or night, on the current pitch.

Green knocked over first ball of the day then the tail collapsing was the worst case scenario playing out

All out 121

Windies need 204 for the win with one and a half sessions to bat before it gets dark
