Surprisingly more optimism on this thread than I was expecting.

From the outside looking in I’m concerned our club is mismanaging it’s funds, I’m sure if you put the microscope through the clubs expenses we pour a lot of money in the fluffy stuff yet we’ve dropped the ball in our off field performance staff since Covid when the league reigned in on spending with the soft cap.

100k members and we are needing handouts from interstate isn’t something I thought our proud club would be doing so soon after our 3 flags…

Look at how much the punt rd redevelopment is costing.

Correct and no doubt they have light fittings specified by some ****wit architect that’s worth $10k a pop.

Could easily scale back to the finishes without compromising the benefits and functionality of the space without breaking the budget.

25mn shortfall on pro development should force a rethink on that

Happy for the club to do it, especially why we are still building the playing group again & gives us a chance for players to do more bonding away from home. It still needs to be a significant payday for us too do it. Also gives me a chance to make a long weekend of it & have a hit of golf at the new seven mile beach golf course.

Unless we are all going to buy 5 bricks each to fund the rest of the redevelopment it’s a no brainer.

2 years won’t impact our finals chances whatsoever.

As long as it doesn’t impact our MCG games as well.

We do community footy visits very well and we have a strong tassie contingent in the playing group not to mention Richo who could do a heap of club media stuff down there too.

We have a monster redevelopment happening which we already know is not fully funded so if it’s a way to complete to project, it’s smart business.

It would only be for 2 years until tassie enter the comp, and our mcg games would be unaffected. Whilst we are rebuilding and redevloping punt rd it makes a lot of financial sense
Agree, but I want to understand something.

We only play 1 Marvel home game. Doesn’t this mean we also give up 1 MCG game along with it?

I don’t mind it if it’s our home MCG game against West Coast or Adelaide for example, but I hope it’s not one of our higher drawing games.

Hard pass. People need to get over their hatred of Marvel. A scheme like this will screw us when we want to make finals in a couple of years time.
2 games a year for 2 years while we're still cellar dwelling is a no brainer, especially if the money is good.

I hope this is just a bit of fishing by the media. I don't like the idea. Selling games to Cairns felt like selling the soul. I don't know if you can tangibly say it will/won't cost games but it doesn't appear to have helped North Melbourne. They have money and still can't attract players or win.

I also like going to Docklands. That does put me in a minority of supporters here. I'd be happy to stay at Docklands and find a way to win there regularly rather than sell games. We are going to play a lot more at Docklands than we ever will in Hobart.

The only saving grace for me is that it is Hobart. I quite like Hobart but I hope we don't see Richmond play a home game there.

As it’s the Tassie Government leading the charge, I’m sure that they’ll try and get a big name matchup to boost revenue potential, but ultimately it’ll be a games against teams like Gold Coast which were the teams we most often played a home game at Marvel that would be the matchup (Hawks play Giants, Crows, North and Port at Launceston for comparison).

It’s just too much of a revenue loss to both the RFC and the AFL to have a marquee game moved to Tassie.

My guess is that the AFL will ‘accommodate ’ us in some manner. Maybe we play one less game interstate (I.e. an additional team we play twice is Melbourne based) and/ or guarantee our Gather Round opponent is an interstate team.

The AFL will have involvement you’d suspect to ensure there’s as much momentum for Tassie footy as possible leading into the teams entry in a few years time.

It’s not the club selling games to Tassie as much as it is Tassie wanting the club to come. The most successful games at Hobart have both involved Richmond, and the additional tourism boost that local businesses would get (and the State coffers themselves) from two games a year is significant (it’s why the SA Government have put so much into Gather Round).

It’ll be a holdover until Tassie comes into the competition in a few years’ time.

So it's suggested that we return to this ridiculous idea of selling home games interstate. What the hell is wrong with our club. During the premiership years we had more members than anyone else, yet we find ourselves in this situation. You don't see clubs like Collingwood, Carlton or Essendon selling games interstate. Can't believe how quickly we have declined to be even considering this. I guess it doesn't help when lazy supporters don't get off their backsides & actually attend games.

I’m all for it. And it’s not just the short term cash grab. Tassie is desperate for a team and their team may be delayed by a year or more. This venture will get us a few thousand more rusted on Tiger supporters and paying members for a lifetime out of Tassie. Will help when we travel there in future to play away games against the Devils.

Also will ensure we get given an away game against Devils every year in future … which is better than drawing one of the other interstate sides away.

So long as it ends the moment Devils come in I’m all for it.
