Isn’t that just the reality of where we are at?
Maybe but if our reality is to constantly go “well another wasted year but NEXT year will be our year” then we really are just making up numbers.

It’s so apathetic and excuse ridden it becomes redundant to bother. Every club could find an excuse if they wanted to it seems cultural for us

Get Wardius from GWS if you want a mid sized forward. Averages 3 goals a game in the VFL. Still only 20.
I’m convinced that you just occasionally make names up. Wardius sounds like a ****ing Harry Potter spell

I’m not sure how it’s making an excuse. By list demographic, we are exactly where we should be.

That’s something as old as time as an accurate measure of performances.

You add more experience. You expect a rise. A fully fit list and those inclusions. Yeah we should make the 8.

I'm at that point where if they said they were handing back the licence and shutting the doors I'd be slightly relieved and not too upset. They just don't give enough reward back for me these days.

Pretty sure you argued the opposite when I said this would happen if they cut too hard and sold off mid age group players for picks.

I never said we’re travelling ok. More as I expected right now.
I said we are around where we should be if you are realistic - again in my opinion only. When you compare incredibly experienced teams to the teams we are fielding I genuinely don’t believe that any team can beat every other on any given day. Looking at the ladder will tell you that.

The equation to success is pretty simple.
Have as many of your best players aged between 23-28 as possible.

Consider that, and there’s no surprises with where we’re at.

Our best 22 on paper looks anywhere between 6-10th all inform.

That means a fully fit King and inform.
That means Dougal fit and playing well
pou, Henry etc.

We haven’t had it.

The issue wasn’t cutting hard. The issue is that depth needs time to be built and we got absolutely found out in this department.

Which funnily enough, Ross spoke about in pre season as a risk for the year ahead.

There hasn’t been a list decision to look back on and regret since Ross/Sos etc made in their time here.

WTF has everyone been gaslighting me when I've said this over the years and now you're all using it as an excuse?

If we lose Nas, not sure the next 2 years amount to much without getting Butters back.
Please that’s just wack talk. We’ve pumped him up, oh go for 1,000 metres gained this week blah blah.

I’d put plenty on that Nas will never be any better than he’s been this year. All the while his turnovers have increased, he’s run himself into trouble virtually every week, gone forward and butchered it. He’s also taken a lot of ball of Sinclair who is the superior user and decision maker.

If NAS leaves we’ll need to build Travaglia, Hastie etc but I expect we’ll get a decent return and actually improve.

Come on he’s one guy playing the most unaccountable position on the field, we’ll be just fine either way. I might add at the same time it’s trade Marshall, trade steel etc. I think we’d miss them more to be honest.

Howard is shit. Sold Battle knowing we'd need a fill in and didn't chase one.

Once upon a time I thought along the same lines as you about Nas.

I’m very firm he is a star based on what I’ve seen this year and if his last few weeks of being able to go on ball and have an impact become a consistent thing. We genuinely have the next Andrew McLeod.

I don’t believe you for a minute…😝

I’m not saying you haven’t said this but I don’t remember it sorry mate. Has always been my position with the majority of sports.
Male physical peak is 27-28. Can’t deny physiology.

We’ve really ****ed around with missing that for 15 years then.

It’s injuries, it’s the draw, it’s Gold Coast concessions, it’s mercury in retrograde.

At some point we just need to do better. 2025 was gonna be finals but injuries, draw, battle (a decision we made from all accounts).

Now it’s 2026 but if Nas goes then it’s re set, and if he’s still there injuries still could be the issue.

I think you see it as moving with the world but the counter is a constantly moving target is one that becomes irrelevant. It’s the north thing (and I’ve fallen for the north list as well).

At some point results have to be found, it’s been a long time since we were good, you gotta be able to see why there is immense frustration about being told to be patient.

(By you I mean the collective you of ever optimists btw, now YOU specifically)

Understand the frustration but what concrete action would be taken differently if we weren’t patient?
Firstly I’m not the coach, nor the list manager, it’s not incumbent upon me to find the solutions and even if I did they would be meaningless.

Secondly this is the issue. People just preach patience forever. Well we can get mad but that won’t fix anything, be patient.

I’m actually in for giving Ross his allotted time and letting him cook away (my commentary on 2025 is actually that it is what it is, I’m neither mad nor particularly optimistic about it) but my point is that people always have an out.

If 2026 goes to shit there will be the “injuries and a bad draw” crew. Same in 27 and so on. At what point do THEY say “actually nah this is ****ing shit”.

For years we've been starved of a once in a generation player with Roo being the last..We finally nail it with Nas & we're low balling him with an offer of $1.2m.
The club needs to offer $1.7m per season & withdraw the offer to DeKoning. If the club has allegedly put forward a binding contract to him well heads should roll...
The rush to re-sign King was always going to back fire with his inability to physically withstand the rigours of AFL..
The club needs to deliver to its long term suffering supporters & demonstrate that we're wise in our long term investing in the players who will potentially provide a return...King was never going to..TDK won't either..Nas is the one who will..
Pull your finger out SOS & before it's too late put an appropriate offer to Nas before we end up being the annual laughing stock of the competition..Nas is a player who can single handedly be the difference & there's only a handful of players such as N Daicos who are in this category..

What if it's as simple as the club saying:

Nas, we think you're a jet. Sign with us for 7+ years and we will give you 1.7mil a season...

Oh, you're not wanting to commit long term? Think that 2 years is a better option, assess things after that?

Makes sense.

Well the lifetime deal still stands but if you want just 2 years then that will be on 1.2mil. If you can't commit to us then you understand we cant commit quite so much to you right?

AS ALWAYS, THE NAMED TEAMS ARE ONLY A GUIDE, FFS - PLEASE - DON’T BOTHER ARGUING WITH ME ABOUT WHO IS BEST 22 OR NOT…

If we round up the available scuttlebutt, the believable, the hopeful, and the outlandish, then;

OUT: Steele, Marshall
IN: De Koning, Aleer
STAY: Wanganeen-Milera

SENIORS 2026

B: Webster* - Aleer - Wilkie
HB: Sinclair - Tauru - Wang.-Mil*
C: Wood - Phillipou - Windhager*
HF: Sharman - King - Hall
F: Higgins - Heath* - Owens
Foll: De Koning - Macrae - Garcia

Int: Stocker* Wilson Boxshall Henry Travaglia

RESERVES 2026

B: McLennan* - Cordy* - Barrat
HB: Hastie - Howard* - O’Connell*
C: Schoenmaker* - Dow - Carroll*
HF: Said - Keeler* - Byrnes*
F: Boyd* - Caminiti - Collard
Foll: Dodson - Jones* - Clark

Int: Armstrong

* out of contract for 2026

………………………..

15 OOC players is WAY too many at this point… we’d want to get a move on.

There hasn’t been a list decision to look back on and regret since Ross/Sos etc made in their time here.
Heaps of annoying decisions

Carroll? Really a GOP made for the VFL. Can't get a game.

Dow on retrospect is a cheaper and much worse version of Dunstan

3 year extension to Hill?

3 years for Collard. Would be delist or trade bait at any other club.

Long term for Max

The list goes on…
