Dowling must be wondering what he has to do. Not even on the extended bench.

Very happy to see we didn't turn back to Murphy upon injury.

ANB, Peatling and Milera are safe on the bench. So one extra player to be named in the 22 (Jones?) and one more as sub.
Dowling is very stiff not to get a look in today
Played wing last week in sanfl and did well.
He really should come in on form and position

Richmond supporters have a rivalry with everyone. There's a group who legitimately think the league and media is out to get them, and that recent rules changes were implemented to stop their dynasty. They call it the CFL (Corrupt Football League) and that their club is the target.

Yes, a Melbourne-based club who, when up and about, draw crowds of more than 80K is one that the league don't want to succeed.
Perhaps they should re-watch the 2017 GF and then see if they still come to that ridiculous conclusion

100%. Been playing well in that role all season, and named there again this weekend

Clearly not in Nicks' plans at all, which is a shame. Still contracted for 2026

So we have the heaviest team playing Curtin instead of Sholl off a wing...

Well across a team of 23 that’s a cumulative 100+ kgs heavier than the opposition.

But as you put it, it moreso means that we generally have 2 or 3 positions on the field where we have a size advantage. Curtin is one. Usually one of Tex, Fog or TT have a clear weight / size mismatch.

We play 3 genuine tall forwards & defenders, along with the tallest wingman in the AFL.

You'll get sanctioned for mentioning weight, will you not? ;)

Doubt it.

Reckon we will run one of our main mids with Rowell.

Perhaps a challenge for Berry as they both love to tackle.
I could imagine Bond getting a shutdown role on one of their half backs. Noble and Rioli have been great for them most of the year.
Shutting one side of the field down for their rebound makes everything much less complicated for us.

ANB might get the other one.

To me it's been obvious this year how much "bigger" we look than other teams.

Some pretty disgusting posts on GC board about our club, call us a racist club, that Mac Andrew will be racially vilified this week.

It’s projection.

I remember seeing some pretty racist things said on their board when Rankine left

I won't argue against Berry being moved out but our midfield set up now for CBAs isn't something that Matt Crouch works with. We set up behind our opposition so that when we do get the ball it is an extraction that has us running in a straight line towards 50. For the last 5 years we have been on the inside of the opposition hoping for Rob to drop the ball at his feet, which whilst we won more clearances, the quality was shithouse around the corner kicks most often chopped off at half back for the opposition to mop up and rebound.

Now we get less clearances, though higher quality when we do and we mop up more of the opposition under pressure clearances more often than we used to.

We lost the clearances against two strong clearance-winning teams in our last two matches, but so what? We smashed both teams on spread and rebound, two things that Matt Crouch does not do well, badly enough that he becomes a hindrance.

I really don't understand how Matt Crouch getting 25 non hurt touches makes our side better than it has been performing without him.
I don’t think it’s a matter of Crouch being a game changer, I just think he does Berry’s position better than Berry does. It’s those small things which add up over the entirety of the game that can make the difference. Was it last year or the year before when Crouch was pretty much playing SANFL and made an immediate impact when he got his chance in AFL. I think you are taking for granted the advantage of first touch and clearances from centre bounces are. Yeah rebounding footy has become a dangerous weapon for us, but first crack into our forward 50 surely has to be as important.

Is that with or without Rioli though?

I think that this is really telling for the direction of the club with these inclusions, us not defaulting automatically back to experienced players.
This has to be the inclusion of Davis and Balme into the selection committee, I have no doubt Nicks would've fought hard over the last couple of weeks to bring in Murphy and Smith as known quantities, however you would think he has either conceded or the others have put the foot down in having Taylor starting on the field, Pedlar, Nank & Bond in the squad surely now shows that they have moved past those two (Murphy & Smith).

They're both out of contract and were given multiple chances to cement a spot and earn a new contract and I am hoping that its all now done. Thanks both for your service, all the best.

The gap between us and Port got bigger with Willie dropped.

He will be booed and that is how it will be perceived, as racist.

Nothing to do with his post gane antics last time.....

Gold Coast has a board?

It's just this.

There appears to be four spots up for grabs. Berry, Taylor, Jones and ????.

Rachele will hopefully come back and take one of these spots. The other contenders, based on previous selections, include Pedlar, Nankervis, Smith, Sholl, Draper, Crouch, Murphy and Cook. We are yet to see Bond, Edwards and Dowling in the AFL this season and it seems like Schoenberg, Ryan, Gallagher, Welsh and T Murray are a long way from selection.

Burgess, Butts, Borlase and McAndrew are a chance if we need a like for like replacement.

Since none of the fringe players that I have mentioned have nailed down a spot, I would like to see Bond, Edwards and Dowling given a chance over the last 7 games but I doubt this will happen.
