I think this is a little overblown.

Larkey is a coleman medallist in almost any other team and Combden looks like being a gun key back.

Logue, Pink and Corr are all solid if unspectacular (and before anyone rags on Corr he gave King a bath last year so lets not shit can him too much).

Probably lacking a true CHF but id argue so are we.
Larkey is 28 next year, and 31 by the time they’re contending for anything.

Logue and Pink are dreadful. I watch a lot of north because my family are north.

You need top line keys to defend. If we get TDK and Aleer, with Wilkie & Tauru were well ahead of north.

I haven’t included king in this due to his injuries but reality is his health changes the complex of our list very quickly

It just occurred to me that with SA clubs offering to front load Nas' salary, Stkilda would rightly be saying we're not spending our war chest on you for 2 years only for you to piss off home after that. So the difference on the table could be as much or more than $1M over 2 years.
It makes me think he's gone.

It means for our cap to be sitting at 85% today that our bottom end of the list is earning sfa and are contracted.

It means by 2027 there is an absolute fortune coming off the books aswell.
I mean, theyre not all earning the minimum wage though stav. 35 players are not earning less than $150k a year.

There is no way you could actually have those contracts approved.

We couldnt possibly have gone at Rowell with $2m AND TDK with $1.7m and retained Nas.

If you think it’s not mathing mate then maybe they were trading Steele or Marshall or both out anyway.

No clue. It’s a hypothetical

Caroline Wilson said we should have as much as $3m free in cap space for both 26/27

King might play 10 more games for his career.

Camma and "no one" are dreadful. (FWIW i also watch a fair bit of North)

Xerri is their ruck, hes ahead of TDK. Aleer and Tauru/Combden and Whitlock (all talented but still unproven)

You can do this same thing with any team including ours.

Their spine is just genuinely not as bad as youre making out and ours including King is still young and unproven.

Yeah I don’t think we’re anywhere north levels. Reason being we’ve invested in key position players early in the rebuild.

North need to draft talls, they’ll take 6-8 years before they’re at a level to compete. By then, many of the mids they have will be over the hill or late in their career. Their in a constant rebuild.

Comben looks a future star. Larkey a bit like King at the moment. Just can't stay fit. Their KPBs that they traded in all similar too. Just can't stay on the park.

I cant speak for the crows but the port supporters have essentially said hands off any player even remotely valuable from Vic in that Nas thread.

The overwhelming sentiment from saints fans is they dont have the draft capital alone (thats both)
The Port supporters aren’t the Port Adelaide football department making these decisions.

The spanner in the works for Port Adelaide is that NWM’s manager has asked St Kilda to prepare a 2 year contract for his client.

That seems to be the fall back position if a trade isn’t agreed to.

In a funny way, that affords St Kilda considerable protection in any trade negotiation (if it comes to that).

And I would expect those negotiations would be finalised before the trade period commences. If not, no deal. Smart play by Ben Williams.

The dream for Port’s supporters that they nail Saints to the wall and get NWM as a bargain basement is nothing but a mirage.

That’s just a clinical assessment of the facts as we know it.

That saves about $1.6 and bumps the average salary for the other 35 to a whopping $160k.

It doesnt work my man. We could not have done it.

Which covers two of the three you think we could have brought in (and gives no pay rises to anyone else)

Completely agree, you should get on that Nas thread.

Something strange is happening with that one.

Very surprising he hasn’t re-signed yet. Bulldogs don’t seem confident a resolution is imminent.

Talk of him looking at Geelong. Probably a BS rumour still. Surely even Cotton On couldn't afford him.

Port fans have no say in the matter whatsoever. They are flaccid. Have bitched and moaned about Kenny for half a decade and nobody pays them any attention.
If we did trade and we got even near NWM's worth I would still be distraught. The best draftee we have had since Reiwoldt and we can't hold him?

I have been to one game this year. Will be none next year if this useless clownshow can't hold on to NAZ. Will watch on TV but won't waste time going.

I think the issue is if theyre all earning their incentives we literally cant field a team.

NAS, Rowell and TDK @ $5.2m. Then lets go average of about $800k for our next 8 players (assuming thats Roma, King, Wilkie, Sincs, Steele, Higgins, Macrae and Hill) thats $11.3m on 11 players.

We have $4m to pay 35 other players (which averages $114k).

Were basically Carlton only our mid tier is actually Div 2 EFL guys our bottom tier is ****ing Div 4 ressies.

The math doesnt work Stav. There is no feasible way we could have actually gotten those three contract over the line, incentivised or not.

Its actually not worth worrying about cause it didnt happen (i again maintain the Rowell thing never actually got any traction) but my worry now is your basic maths ability.

You reckon you can have the 3 highest paid players in the league in one team? Even if 20% of it is incentivised.

Carlton have painted themselves into a corner through irresponsible contracts and made them unable to make up the short fall with ready made talent. Cost them a sustained period at the top and wasted a generation.

They went nuts overpaying for B grade talent to get them at a similar point to us. You only see the painful outcome after 5 years when things get tight. Most list managers will be on a beach somewhere long gone.

It just means the deals might be back ended and those deals front ended.

Again, it’s almost impossible to work out without seeing the numbers. We are just working off what the club is happy to have out there re our cap space.

It’s likely that just like Aleer was 900k until he wants. TDK will be similar.

Youre gonna front end youre way out of a $5.2m a year hole you reckon?

Im very very glad youre not the club accountant.

Id wager the AFL wouldnt approve the contracts citing "we have to assume you have to honor the full amount of the contracts with incentives and if you do youre absolutely ****ing cooked".

We either never got anywhere near an actual offer to Rowell OR we were happy to dump Nas.

Sure but that doesn’t matter. We're not gonna tip that his way for a 2 year deal. He'll have to commit longer term.
Id do it and back ourselves to improve enough to convince him to stay at that point.

If were still shit in two years and he wants out anyway then we may as well blow it all up and start a rebuild.

A lot can happen in two years, if we keep him now and improve he might just wanna stay anyway.

I’ve actually had a look at that thread and my brain was hurting at some of the stuff that was being written.

Logic is usurped by partisan idiocy.

Never argue with people who are less intelligent. All that happens is that you raise their IQ while lowering your own.

I’ll stick with our Saints forum. We are generally a more rational and intelligent mob here, although we can be understandably fatalistic and gloomy.

We’ll be fine with NWM. One way or another. But I’m confident he stays with us.

Mate id say the fact you are trying to fit flat figures across a salary cap with no idea who is owed what and how the hell you are structuring it is more a you problem then me or anyone else.

You are genuinely making a mountain out of a non existent issue. We don’t have to worry about this $2m to Rowell and if we did it’s likely an older head goes not Nas.

You’re the one who reckons we could fit the three highest paid players into our cap with no impact on the rest of the list.

I’m the one saying it couldn’t happen and didn’t happen.

My issue isn’t how it could have happened (it couldn’t) it’s how you seem to think it possibly could have.

I think they know how to Math mate and if they offered this money knowing TDK & Aleer are coming + signing nas etc then they knew how to fit the guy in.

Outside of that, I couldn’t care about who gets paid what in what year and for how long.

If it became an issue, I’d kick that can when it did.
