Autopsy Swans by 31 in a Dire and forgettable game.

In fairness, it’s impossible to be “up” for every game - today felt like we just did enough to keep them at arms length.

I sensed we had another gear if it became necessary.

One observation: Grundy had a massive advantage in the ruck - but failed to tap it out to advantage. I thought he was OK-ish, but really should have been more effective given Xerri was missing.

No way should North have won as many clearances as they did.

I'll take those odds. Freo have some tough games ahead.

I'm a glass half full so add some spritzer or another shot kind of guy. We remain in contention for finals until we're mathematically ruled out.
Yeah but thats with Freo losing all these games. If they win one of these they are predicted to lose then its game over

No there wasn't. Other than 10 minutes of the first and the last quarter it was disastrous. We had 80 HO to 10. We did not take advantage of such a huge advantage. This is indeed a forgettable game. If you played this as an example of AFL to an International audience there wouldn't be too many bothering to watch another game
One of the better individual performances you would ever want to see.

A young key forward continuing to find his feet.

Another dominant ruck performance.

Our captain working his way back to his best.

Yeah, I enjoyed it.

I would genuinely hate to be the sort of footy fan that many of you seem to be. Not satisfied unless we dominate all 80 minutes with error free footy and win every positional battle across the ground.

Our season may still be on life support, but it was dead and buried a month ago. If you think the game was dour, slogging through the gameday thread and autopsy is downright morose.

Just because it was enough last season doesn't mean it will be this year

This prediction is using the favourites and the predicted margin for each game (except Sydney as we will predict them to win out). I also predicted Sydney to win EACH game by 40

Here are the results for the other sides just above us and how they could EASILY snag a game on teams above them and get to 15 wins

So you're a glass half empty, no ice and a pubic hair left on the rim kind of guy?

For the first time in ages, today I saw some performances in the VFL that actually put welcome pressure on the seniors.

Most notably:

* Cleary was finally put in the guts and was huge.

* Florent racked them up.

* Dattoli showed really good signs.

* Bowman looked classy.

* Fox came on in the 2nd quarter and radically improved the effectiveness of our back 6.

Coaches are reluctant to change winning sides & nobody was awful today (I thought everybody was just “meh” except Heeney and Wicks).

But FINALLY today, I felt like Cox has some selection decisions to make - in a good way.

Im just realistic thats even if we get to 14 wins which is what we need. We still need to up our % to around 110 to make finals. That requires winning each game by 45-50

No way Freo make finals. Even their easier games they should win are no walk ins. Carlton play a lot of the teams in the bottom half of the 8 and are a sneaky chance to pinch 1 as are Port. Freo's record in Adelaide isn't great and I think Port pinch at least 1 of the games against Gold Coast and Fremantle. Freo desperately need a percentage boost and don't have the opponents to do it.

Carlton are mathematically out of finals as they can only get to 12 wins and Port Adelaide only 13. They aren't making finals

I spied no mythical gear you were speaking of. We were flat for a large part of the game.

Yeah, I think those odds are wack. We WILL make it if we win the last 5. The likelihood would be 80+%. Lose another one, and it drops down to 0.1%.
Reality is baring an unusual amount of upsets or 2 teams choking there's probably going to be a team with 14 wins that misses out on Finals. GWS have enough games against the lower teams that they probably sneak in on percentage at least. Hawthorn and Fremantle are the 2 most likely to drop an unexpected game for me. Both have similar runs home and I haven't seen anything from either of them that makes me consider them a threat. I think the Bulldogs have enough games against lower teams and a healthy enough percentage to sneak in on percentage. Gold Coast are also a chance of one of the games against Adelaide or Brisbane being a hiding against.

Even if Sydney do win all 5 games they need at least 2, probably 3 of those 5 games to be at least 40 point wins and at least 1 of them to be 100+. West Coast in the last round is probably the most likely. Making up around 25% in the last 5 rounds isn't going to be easy.

Not a fan of the title. Plenty to like out of that one.

Strong win keeps our season ticking.
100%. If we were top 4 we would be raking that this was a “taking care of business game”.

If it was a little bit lazy, then good. The team can’t be at 110% every game in the run home. Need to recharge the batteries when we can.

Playing to win each game by 40-50 points is a recipe to stall and lose a win-able game. And if we need to win each game by 40-50 points, then we are already out of contention.

Just keep getting the jab done and hope that results go our way. There is usually one team that stalls in the rune home.

DQ interested in your thoughts on Green, I know you have been a bit underwhelmed, are you starting to see green shoots of development?

I'm not saying they make finals, my point was that Freo play both Port and Carlton and I have a gut feel that Freo drop at least 1 of those 2. Derby's tend to be closer than ladder positions would dictate so can't see Freo having the 70+ point win they need to boost their percentage in that game either. This leaves them needing to beat 2 of Collingwood, Brisbane and the Bulldogs to make finals given their percentage. I can't see them beating Collingwood in Melbourne which leaves them needing to win the other 2. Only 1 of those games is in Perth and Brisbane would be my tip for premiers. It wouldn't even surprise me if Fremantle drop to 10th.

Carlton are genuinely dog water, Freo will smoke them.

Port are also terrible especially with all their injuries, Freo will smoke them.
