Why, it’s easy to handball over your head?

Ruckmen do it all the time - it's a huge weapon in getting a team clearance for those who are good at getting their hands free and who have good peripheral vision. Even just clearing the congestion and getting the ball into space.

Making it illegal? WTF? How about just paying the ones that aren't proper handballs?

To do a legal handball, the ball must be punched off the palm of your hand. To handball over your head, it would be impossible to hold it in the palm of your hand, ....... your palm would be facing downwards. Ball "handballed" over the head, is a throw.

Your obviously not up to date with the rules, also every afl player can grip a ball in one hand.

Do you have Donald Trump size hands or something?

At a guess, I'd say the median AFL player's height would be about 190cm, around 6'3. You don't think a ruckman can palm a football, when they could all easily palm a basketball?

Donald would be no good around the stoppages with those little salad servers

Hit the ball off your palm = handball.

Ruckman hitting the ball out of the ruck = palming.

Two totally different things.

I'm talking about an AFL player palming a ball like a basketball player does when they dunk one handed, not a ruckman using their palm to tap a ball down.

Look at a picture of an NBA player dunking with one hand. The reason the ball doesn't fall out of their hand is because they're palming it. Now imagine an AFL player with their hand gripping a Sherrin in exactly the same way (miles easier than doing the same thing with a basketball). Then they punch the ball with their other fist and it goes over their head to a teammate. Why shouldn't that be allowed as a legal handball?

Liked: Brisbane stayed cool under pressure - true front-runners. Fremantle’s fightback and Adelaide’s burst were great to watch. Young Tigers spirit shines! 🐯

Learnt: GWS, Adelaide, and Hawthorn proved they’re no joke. Heeney’s a match-winner. The Bulldogs still can’t beat the big teams.

Hated: The fixture’s a mess - blockbusters in dead time slots, and Thursday night has lost its spark. Moore’s knee drop into Treacy's back simply not cool. 👎🏼

Liked: listening to the 5AA radio commentators and their giddy excitement watching what is unfolding before their eyes. Sure it's biased towards the Crows, but it's fun to listen to.

Learnt: the warranty period on the "new toys" has just expired.

Hated: being based in NZ and having to resort to watching match highlights on the AFL app. I'm sick of the endless media coverage about the All Blacks

You could be living in Perth and suddenly realised you know what Harley Reed has for breakfast, his favourite colour, his high score in his favourite video game, what colour underwear he wears on a Monday etc ...

Watch AFL, being working well for me for years and years.

Liked: Collingwood losing in a tight one - and getting some of their own medicine. I admire the grit and heart of the Dockers, and actually don't mind them doing well. Still prefer Adelaide, Brisbane and GWS, but would definitely take a Freo flag over any Vic side bar the Bulldogs.

Hated: umpiring as usual, our insipid performance, the whole MRO circus

Learnt: maybe we have underestimated Freo. Adelaide might be a serious flag contender.

Learned: Father son has a dark side but the force still works in mysterious ways.

On the weekend 2 interesting goals were kicked:

The first was by Will Lorenz for Port. It was against Hawthorn. Lorenz’s grandfather was Graham Arthur, Hawthorn’s first ever premiership captain. But the Hawks won the game.

The second was by Ed Allan for Collingwood against Freo. At the time it looked like it had put the game out of Freo’s reach… Allan’s father is Ben, Freo’s first ever captain. But of course Freo won in the end.

So you can sink the boot into the old man’s club but he’ll still have the last laugh.

lol the media infatuation with him has nothing to do with him as a person. They use him on both sides of the country as pure click bait to increase their earnings
its actually quite disgusting how they treat him..

If you do it moving both arms it's a throw.Either abolish the rule or enforce it
You obviously haven’t kept up with the rules then. They’ve changed it so that both hands can move but you just have to make contact with the other hand.
However you can still handball over your head without moving the ball hand, it’s easy as.
