Watching live - I never seem to notice Ed. The goal was good, the howler was a shocker but I won’t hang him for that. A tough game.

But it’s his invisibility for me - which may be due to what I watch and ‘see’ at the footy. Which may not be much.

You’re correct VP.
He just doesn’t get involved enough.

What are people’s thoughts on Ed’s game yesterday. Kicked a goal but did he do anything else? I saw one go through his legs. Can he mark overhead?
Did some terrible things Defensively later that Qtr that cost us a Chances at Kicking for Goal

He’s played 13 games.

He’s going to have up games and down games at this stage of his career.
True, but he’s just not doing enough to keep his spot when we get guys back.

1, 13, 100, 400 games. I don't particularly care, when its your time to go, you body line the ball...he jumped out of the way.

With his frame he should be going harder.

Honestly, it isn't a frame thing.

Be it Jarryd Blair, Brad Dick, Mason Cox or Aaron Sandilands you run a line through the ball.

Back in the day, he'd be called a squib and would never grace the seniors again.

It’s not just Allan - our whole team do it - I they let their opponent get the ball then they shut them down.

Allan is going to need some big games to keep his spot as we near the business end of the season.

That's a McCreery specialty - there have been times when Beau needed to adopt the see ball-get ball approach.
He's bloody good when he does that.
It's probably because he loves tackling - another thing he's bloody good at.

In fairness, I think we usually play Crisp or Sidey on the wing on the side we play through more often and the other wingman camps out on the fat side and the ball barely goes there.

You're talking about a different thing. That ball that just rolled straight past him. No one else on the team would have let that go straight through them. They would have gotten low and body lined the ball. That was really bad.

I agree it was bad, but that’s a skill issue/lazy, not being soft or jumping out the way like the other guys said.

I think so too. Just really bad technique. I think he was trying to pluck it, whereas guys like Perryman or Sidey will approach it positioned like a volleyball dig to bunt it forward if it doesn't bounce up for them and only change to grabbing it if it's a good bounce.

This!!!

Apart from the goal and getting clean bowled, I have no recollection of Ed Allan playing. I can't recall him linking up, tackling, or doing anything else.

What’s his weapon? You need at least one if you’re going to make it at AFL level.

He supposedly has great speed and endurance but I’m yet to see him actually use either to advantage. Can’t remember seeing him burst away from a pack or in a one on one contest.

And he doesn’t stand out at the end of games running on top of the ground either.

His disposal is a concern too. His kicks are very up and under.

Not writing him off as he may develop more in the future, but we surely can’t carry him into a finals series.

If you remember the Melbourne game last year when he played as an inside mid, he was just hunting the ball based on his natural instinct , just wasn’t in two minds.

Now that they are playing him as a wing, I have a feeling he is stopping himself from attacking the ball because he feels he needs to maintain his width outside the stoppage and be there purely as the outlet player.

Weve had to call on depth and its good that we"ve got young depth with the potential to become more than just depth, but I'll also be surprised if he plays finals.

The Melbourne game was a practice match. They weren’t playing

That’s not my point, ed wasn’t tentative in that game. He didn’t look “lost”, he was just willing to go get the ball.

I don’t think wing is his position long term.

Always played better in the VFL when he was on the Ball and not out on wing
