Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

can't begrudge anyone trying to make the most of their time in footy, or wanting to play next to mates. jsos wouldn't be our first father-son to leave the club. there's other examples across afl as well to switch clubs. imagine the pressure he feels weighing this stuff up.

can't begrudge the club doing what it needs to do for onfield success either. given our current standings on the ladder and on the field, it's only natural to question if we've done all we can so players, not just father-sons, can achieve the best out of themselves, and success.

Because the club has been a basket case for 30 years and counting. This will be the final straw.
I'm all for holding the club to account for the numerous mistakes that it has made.. there's been plenty so it's absolutely fair. I'm just as disallusioned at the moment.

But if JSOS leaves it's his decision not the clubs. He has earnt that right as a free agent.

No player is bigger than the club. Do we want to keep him.. obviously yes. Would life go on if he left.. also yes. It's a bit of a tricky spot as he's perennially injured. Sure he's shown a lot more this year as a defender but he has not once played a full season in his 9 years at the club. The reported contract terms ($ and length) are a risk for a player that isn't in our top 5. I get the sentimentality. He's a Silvagni. But at some point we need to let go of the mantra 'we are Carlton F the rest', start moving with the times and making smart list management decisions.

If it happens, says to me that he feels the club is still a mess and no hope of a flag. For a Silvagni to leave Carlton for Pies things need to be pretty bad

I mean yeah maybe it's a bit of that.. or the extra year (5 vs 4) offers him more security which for a player who isn't a top 10 player at our club and wouldn't be at theirs either, is pretty huge. Also, he's never been on a big contract so this is his chance to cash in. The decision is about more than just loyalty. I don't think we're this huge mess everyone is making us out to be. Can be turned around with some smart decisions and JSOS would known that too. If he leaves that's not my cue to just go F it I'm abandoning the club as I'm too practically minded to let emotion stop me supporting a club I love.

That is your decision and your entitled to it. Just as others are to theirs

IMO is Jack leaves (he won't) it's because he isn't happy and/or because he feels we can't win a flag. Nothing would mean more to him than winning a falg in Navy Blue

No problem. I just think some having a crack Opium for having an opinion is a bit rich. I actually understand his frustration.
I wasn't having a crack at Opium. I love all of you passionate guys and girls on here. We all want the same thing- a successful Carlton. It's just my opinion that if JSOS leaves (which he won't let's be real) it's most likely not because he sees us a basket case. It's more likely that this is his last contract, it's time for him to cash in, he has a new bub, needs financial security.. it's a lot for him to weigh up.. more than just the club. We've made many mistakes as a club but none are so crazy that they can't be turned around if we get the right pieces in place. Whether we will or not.. well that's a whole different discussion.

I know. Badly worded. My apologies. Others were. Please don't take it personally because it wasn't

I just get annoyed by people on here telling others how they should "feel" about something. Everyone sees things differently. Respect their opinions (debate them, sure) and move on

Just my take

What in the last 26 years suggests Carlton aren't a huge mess still? And don't say membership numbers. That's all kudos to the fans. Not the club

No mistakes are too deep to pull ourselves out of despite how piss poor our management has been for decades.. not denying we've been absolutely poor for a long time.
Other clubs have been basket cases and turned it around. There is no reason we can't ST.
And yes it's the supporters who have been amazing and propped this club up.. we are an amazing bunch. Totally agree with you there.

I have made it clear that I believe things can change and very quickly. BUT some big decisions need to be made and by the right people

As for Jack there is some strong rumours that he is talking still with Pies. I am told by people close that there is no way he will go to Pies. Jack truly loves the club and it would take a massive difference in money to consider moving

Personally, I have no issue giving him 5 years at good money. He deserves it, hasn't been paid much, and is a fabric player. You do what you need to hold them

Fair. I don't really think my post was telling anyone how to feel though and if it came across that way then it was badly worded on my behalf. I was just adding my thoughts on it and hopefully adding to the discussion. I get the emotions and sentimentality around a Silvagni moving (especially to the Pies) and how that could be the breaking point for some people if they are already disallusioned at the way the club has been.

I'm just a practical person so I'm always looking at what we can do to get better, and adapting to situations. If a player leaves it sucks but we can't let that break us, otherwise we should just shut the doors of the club and pack it in. Free agency means we will always lose players. Every club will. Last thing I'll say is I highly doubt he leaves anyway.

Trying to look at it objectively, JSOS is an interesting decision for both club and player. Heart and soul player with THAT surname which carries weight, loyalty, and expectation which he's appeared to finally grow into this season. When he's available, he adds a lot to our back line. Availability being the critical factor. Most of what Jack brings can be determined into a monetary value and the medical risk with his history of injury will be weighted against it. Wright will know what that number is.

Jack as a person seems to be a pretty interesting dude with his head on straight. He'll be well aware of what the personal cost of walking over to Victoria Park will be. He and his management will be well aware that the great unwashed will want to burn him at the stake if he does, and that too has a commercial value, sometimes long after the playing career is done.

I'm too young to see Carlton any other way unfortunately. Makes it harder to maintain the blind faith.

Plus I do some work around football boards and know how hard it is to shift some of the issue causes and their legacy impacts
