Uhuh. I’d have thought ‘scandals’ is a stretch.Who would have thought a club that has had 20 year+ of sustained success would have financial scandals.

Yes, but in an organisation as big as an AFL club i would be surprised if they had anything less than 3 discrepancies at any given time. Every business encounters it.I agree Jack, the AFL should make this all transparent. Although, Geelong apparently had ‘a few’ discrepancies not just one. One error could just be an oversight, but a few seems pretty careless.
I’ve always had a big problem with the 3rd party deals and that’s what geelongs crime is. This isn’t an all out get Geelong thing. The afl is so corrupt and with creative management, all clubs are being dodgy. What is the crime though? The Audit says there is nothing but a few discrepancies. There wouldn't be a person alive who hasn't submitted a Tax return without a discrepancy. All the AFL have to do is make all of this transparent. Things like discovering a lodgement issue over a car to a senior AFLW player that wasn’t lodged is hardly a hanging offence? Brisbane were fined in 2017, they are forever auditing clubs and bound to find something incorrect. So far, nothing appears to get anyone's knickers in a knot except for Caro? She would like nothing more than see Geelong cop a whack!

If all the talk was correct when Danger left Adelaide and his wife and their family was employed by the Costas and then Dangers dad as well. Is this not dodgy? Is this not draft tampering?
It’s such a fine line and I don’t know how they can govern these deals? Footballers only have a short career and should be able to maximise their income. but is this also unfair if those deals to happen if the deal breaker is employing a family member. Or if a 3rd party deal is a high income and is outside the salary cap, the overall money could be much higher than another offer.
With academies and father sons destroying the draft’s integrity, the only thing supposedly keeping it a fair competition is the salary cap, now that’s even corrupt

Honestly this is an unbelievable story. It definitely sounds like he was the players dealer. This guy sounds like a total fraudster.
A very popular sponsor of the Cats, he also acted as their unofficial social coordinator, sourcing tickets to popular events.
Auditors might be pursuing the club for some of the missing millions.
Not sure about that, but it does look like one long party using someone else's money.Honestly this is an unbelievable story. It definitely sounds like he was the players dealer.
I'm really not sure how something of this magnitude can be swept under the rug.
Nguyen’s bank statements also show he received intermittent payments from several star players, usually for amounts less than $1500.Not sure about that, but it does look like one long party using someone else's money.
It's probably a fair assumption, but it could be innocent. The article is very careful to emphasise there are no allegations of improper behaviour by the club, or the players.Nguyen’s bank statements also show he received intermittent payments from several star players, usually for amounts less than $1500.

Yeah and the article also says he was popular for being able to secure tickets to popular events etc
Probably? Seems weird/desperate to go straight to "must be their drug dealer" when the article clearly states he did other things for players.Should all be verifiable then, shouldn't it. Nothing to worry about.

The article says it so often it feels like they want you thinking that probably a shitload of improper things happened.
Using money stolen from charity to buy pubs and farms would surely trump Elliott's brown paper bags.
Or like most shitrag journalism in 2025, they use a bunch of innuendo and clickbait to try and get you to follow along with their narrative before pointing out they don't actually have anything concrete.
But once the mud sticks it sticks and now it's stuck in your mind whether it's true or not.
It's called "illusion of truth" effect.
I didn’t know Mackie was such a fan of live music.Yeah and the article also says he was popular for being able to secure tickets to popular events etc
You don't have people you get in touch with regularly for things other than drugs?I didn’t know Mackie was such a fan of live music.
125 phone calls from 2020-2022.
That’s a lot of interest in concert tickets.
I didn’t write anything about drugs. I’m just surprised he’s got such a penchant for events. 125 phone calls to the social coordinator would suggest an obsession with live gigs. You don't have people you get in touch with regularly for things other than drugs?
1 call every 6 days on average it would appear.I didn’t write anything about drugs. I’m just surprised he’s got such a penchant for events. 125 phone calls to the social coordinator would suggest an obsession with live gigs.
