No disrespect but I think he's a track watcher rather than either a close confidant or staff member employed in list management. He might get whispers but until we have that ink on paper it's a calming word but doesn't end the anxiety level spikes.
Nup - Tony is employed at the club in the footy dept. If he says something then take it to the bank

Skills have been a problem since Lyon was coach last time.

The biggest improvement we've made is in recruitment, but if we lose the best player in the comp then we're pissing into the wind.

For all this talk of winning culture and ruthlessness, we're currently a rabble. Ross is great at selling the dream, he hasn't delivered yet. At some point he will be held to account.

What was all this talent that Ratts had at his disposal, Dean Kent?

I certainly don't think Ratts was some master coach. However, to make the claim standards were crap under Ratten, and have just magically improved because Ross the messiah has walked in the door, has no basis that I can see.
Oh ok so Ratts just hit the draft and went all out in kids like Lyon has?
I see …missed that but but up the agenda Bill you’re nothing if not constant..👍

I think to say Ratten was taking the piss is a bit unfair.

A lot of this has come from Roo, who loves Lyon. Plus, this version of Lyon doesn't feel the same as the hard nosed 2010 Lyon.

Rebuild or not, I still see a team that looks underdeveloped physically, talks about having extra days off, has senior players dropping off quickly.

These factors don't instil confidence that standards have magically gone up across the board.
Agreed
Roo just blindly follows Lyon
When all other logical sense fails …there’s always this !!

Round 23 2022 we had
FB Battle, Howard, Wilkie
HB Hill, Sinclair, Paton
C Clark, Windhager, NWM
HF Long, Membrey, Campbell
F King, Higgins, Owens
Fol Marshall, Ross, Steele
IC Jones, Hannerbury, Butler and Lienert.

It doesn't look much worse or better on paper than we have now. Plenty of those kids have developed considerably since, plenty playing were spuds destined for the scrap heap.

I'd say Lyon has underperformed this year. He's got to start moving forward next year or his position has to come under a lot of scrutiny.
Yet you’ve also posted the list is in the best shape it’s been in since years and we are finally on the right trajectory?
I agree we need to get a move on but reality is we are a draft or two away still imo and still miss a few pieces

Hasn’t always been a track watcher ….

They're saying that the sub is gone and there'll be five on the bench in 2026.
Having two good rucks might be smart business.
Theres already a few Coaches on record that have stated if the sub rule was to be scrapped in favour of a 5 man bench they would play a second ruck.
If thats the way the game goes next year TDK and Ro would be just about the best ruck combo going around.

Lyon must believe he can make the 2 rucks playing work and I tend to agree. Marshall would also become insurance for TDK and King who are both injury prone. If we went out and grabbed another mature tall forward what would he cost trade and salary cap wise?

Marshall has played forward during the Ryder period without kicking a lot of goals, but what it did was helped Max King and the smalls play much better. If Rowan can lead his opponent away from Max then all of a sudden he is not getting double and triple teamed.

Plus I dont think supporters understand how important Marshall is to the fabric of this group, his team mates love him. He is our only real onfield leader.

It would also allow Caminiti to remain in defence, so perhaps Howard is the player in danger of being traded? Although I would prefer to keep him at full back and give Hammer time to work on his game.
I don’t mind keeping Ro and all the off field stuff etc included. But it then makes me question the TDK offer. Two rucks just don’t work we have seen it with Melbourne and Freo. We were lucky that Paddy Ryder was an elite footballer that made it work I don’t think Ro and TDK combo has the same dynamic they both are number 1 ruck types.
