Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

hey guys long time lurker and follower of the forum.

Lost my old account a while back but still had never made a post so no matter there lol.

A few observations
The impact loosing Cotteral and Elijah to injury or other drama this year has had a huge impact on our results. those two are probably our two most important forward link up players, as in sending the ball inside 50.

i get the feeling that several other factors have consired to give us a disaster year as well like newy's injury and and to a lesser extent the charlie and harry knee injuries.

i also see some level of discontent with players attitudes and ask myself are these guys mentally tough enough? my opinion is probably not.

i look forward to some chage at seasons end i cant see voss surviving after season end and hope GW works some magic.
I would also add Fantasia to that forward line link up player. Yes I get the argument that we shouldn’t have placed any reliance on his body given the history but a fit and firing Fantasia would add a lot to our mix.

The Club has become hostage to under peformance from over paid faux superstars who think that the Club is a vehicle for their personal 'story' and 'journey' and their best frinds are their managers who encourage them to find the next chapter in their personal story. - FFS Charlie asking for a trade to GC - because that is a good plan for his personal life style - after being paid millions and being carried through 3 years of injury recovery half of which was self made..

RIDICULOUS

The coaches have been hostage to an unbalanced list and perennially unavailable senior developed faux leaders at the Club.

The list management has been dealing with a salary cap squeeze from the faux underperforming top end talent forcing an over investment in subgrade fill ins

The developing coach has had to develop playes with promise in VFL like Moir/Lemmey/Wilson/Carroll/Chalmers\Camporeles etc etc etc san availability of AFl quality depth developed players

The place has been held together with thick layers of duct tape

As a Carlton supporter I want to invest time which is an irreplaceable asset into watching 23 players who want to win...

Instead the season starts with Harry McKay trumpeting the idea that " it doesn't matter if the CLUB DOESNT WIN A FLAG THIS YEAR...
\

IMO what doesn't matter is Harry or Charlie or Walshy or any other "....shy"

As a collective they are proven losers - led by a proven loser who burns team mates every second time he touches the ball trying to kid himself he is Marcus Bontempelli

As for the two people who have a clue it would be the President and Wright DOH - not rocket science mate.

This Club needs to balance the list out and have enough competitive depth to force performance - and the only way to do that is rid itself of the self imposed superstar baggage that stops the ability to do the basics.

Any replacement coach and head of football will understand this.

So we have now sunken to the level of Fantasia would have made a difference to our side

Dude - ****ing chill out.

Yes, a fit Fantasia would have made a difference to our side. One of our biggest issues is connectivity from mid to forward, and that is something he nails more often than not.

Would it have pushed us into the 8, or the 4 - probably not but who knows. We likely need more than one player to address that issue. But it's pretty damn poor to say that someone acknowledging that, if not for injury, Fanta would have been a handy player for us is sinking to some new low.

You know what - I've long defended Lochie, you know that. I'd take a fit Fanta over Lochie.

Need to keep Kemp. Just offers so much and really hasn't been utilised well at all.

Kemp and Motlop are an interesting watch. We were happy to let Kemp go last season for a good offer, and Motlop has put off contract talks until end of season. I wouldn’t be surprised if both aren’t at the blues next season.

Awfully proud of this board these days. Everyone from Michael Voss to Patrick Cripps is getting crapped on and for good reason. The time for hiding feelings is gone.

So, I’m finally through the tedious process of creating a Bigfooty account. I’m guessing Carlton must be nearing max quota on how many crazies are allowed to be signed up at once because Bigfooty would just not accept me, but I kept at it and finally got through :)

Anyway hello my fellow Blueboy fans,

I just wanted to share my thoughts on the Charlie rumours.

I love the guy as his been one of my favourite players to watch over the last few years (hello Charlie if you're reading this). He can literally win us games off his own boot (remember that Gold Coast game in 2023 anyone?). Yes it’s been a bad season all around for most players so it’s very easy at the moment to get caught up in trading player X, trading player Y, and trading player Z because they either don’t play well, or they don’t lead, or their always injured, or they ride a bike when we all know roller blades are the way to go…. The point is it all feels very re-active by some supporters at the moment rather than holistic thinking (yes I know where I am at the moment).

Star forwards generally play their best footy in the twilight of their careers. This is because it takes time to nurture, develop and make a man out of them. To just dish him off to another team to reap the benefits of his later years is simply unprofessional at its finest.

If we go by recent examples of forwards:-

Jemery Cameron – Traded to Geelong, goes on to win a premiership

Joe Daniher – Traded to Brisbane, goes on to win a premiership

Jarrard Waite – Traded to North, stops being injured or suspended and plays in a finals winning team

Charlie Curnow – <fill in the blank>

I can see others have mentioned Charlie’s bad knee. However, I remember Essendon supporters thinking Joe was beyond repair as well, yet Brisbane had no issues getting him up and running. I'm sure Gold Coast would get Charlie humming as well.

The other notable difference regarding the above forwards, is the outgoing team had no leverage and from memory didn’t want to lose their players so you could at least sympathize with the outgoing team’s situation of having to find a reasonable deal. We are not in this situation so should not waste our efforts there. Just fix the engine, fix the Carlton FC and get Charlie going again because I want to see Charlie best twilight years with us, not another team!

Peace Out

So McGovern hasn't hit his automatic extension trigger? Assuming we will be trading him if so.

A second on or early third rounder would be good points to cover an early Dean bid.

It's hard to believe we will get anything for Gov, considering his age, his inconsistency, and his injury history.

Welcome aboard, you foolish, foolish individual! You were free, but now you're caught in the block hole and you'll never escape.

I think what you've suggested has merit, but I'll offer a counter to one point:

"Star forwards generally play their best footy in the twilight of their careers. This is because it takes time to nurture, develop and make a man out of them."

The examples you've gone on to list include one consistently elite KPP in Cameron, and two talented but injury-prone KPPs who moved clubs and were able to get their bodies right in a new program/environment.

I think there's a danger in assuming that the latter two wouldn't have continued their previous trend of missing games had they remained where they were. And I think that if we're talking about players coming good at another club later in their careers, that can also at times be attributed to the change in environment rather than just the passing of time.

I think Charlie has some very good footy ahead of him. But if he's not committed here, and we force him to say, there's no guarantee his efforts on field meet the requirements. If he moves, we'll end up lamenting how he goes on to kick 70 goals a year at GC or some such, but that performance would likely stem from being in a new club, needing to impress new coaches and teammates, being in an environment with less pressure, playing ahead of midfielders who can hit a target etc.

The sliding doors principle applies. Whatever happens, one cannot assume the same would have happened in a different setting.

Request - from, let's say 3pm, can we have a moratorium on negativity and just appreciate Doc's contributions in the few hours leading into his last game.

Negativity is certainly necessary at times, it can usher in change, but it's Doc Day and I'd love this place to be focused on that, at least until 3 quarter time when we're 12 goals down ;)
That's a great idea, but since I only have half an hour left of negativity, I'll get some things off my chest.

  • Luke Sayers was the most incompetent president we've had in this century (which is saying something).
  • Selecting 5 inside mids in the 22 should be grounds for instant termination.
  • Charlie needs to grow up and embrace the suffering like the rest of us.
  • Delaying a decision (on Voss) until the end of the year has few benefits, and a lot of potential downsides.
  • Repeatedly giving 3(+) year extensions to fringe players is bad list management.
  • The AFL are ruining the draft, the umpiring and the tribunal.
  • Melbourne winters are unbearable at times.

Anyway, happy Doc Day. What an inspirational person and player. Hopefully, we can get a win for the great man.

Loving all the rumours and passion shown.

Some on here think they are the self-anointed guru, others are just plain angry. I'm in the latter grouping.

Angry that we are perennial under-achievers.
Angry that our leaders are anything but leaders - never lead, never show aggression, never stand up for their team-mates.
Angry that we have so many conditional footballers.
Angry that our skills are the worst in the league.
And finally, so angry that this group continues to let us down.

The club has a lot of work to do to win our trust back.

I have no issues if the rumours are true and we are culling the list. I want Wright to go hard, because the group of senior players we have are not taking us to the promised land.
  • Doc retiring is sad but perfect timing
  • McGovern is a conditional footballer - move him on
  • Saad has been just ok the last two years - if he's over it, retire with our best wishes
  • Cincotta gives his all but is depth only
  • Boyd - see above
  • Young is depth only
  • Motlop is borderline best 23 - would not be in any of the top 8 best 23's
  • Kemp - see above
  • Monahan - not up to VFL standard
Durdin and Fogarty would be on this list, but are contracted for another year..

If JSOS holds the club to ransom for extra years/dollars - let him go. I love him and think he's played his best footy at CHB this year, but we can't be held ransom any more.

Doc - we love you. You are a stalwart and deserving of a great send off. I will be cheering you on.

I know there's been a lot of conjecture re TDK lately but as of the last few weeks I have been told the following:

  • He hasn't yet made up his mind.
  • We're trying to bridge the gap between our offer and St. Kilda's offer by laying out a 'post football plan'. This includes being mentored into the financial world by Chris Judd, who currently manages TDK's financial affairs.
  • St Kilda have not formally made an offer. Any offer must first be submitted to the AFL for review and this has not yet happened.
  • He loves the club and his teammates. His best mates are at the club. There is still a huge buy in led by Captain Courageous Crippa.

#Bluemour
tbh, this is starting to drive me coco bananas.....

It's not that hard Tom, if you love the joint and want to play with your best mates, just sign the ****ing piece of paper!!!

You'll probably be the highest/over paid player at the club, and will be set for life regardless if you play with us or with the Stains....unless you're planning on buying a chateau in Monaco or in the French Riviera.

Just make a decision and run with it....it aint that hard!!!

Nice try buddy. I'm not falling for that... again.

Apparently I thought I was at the bottom of the page and didn't scroll down past the ad to see the latest post.
All that rumour says is that they will all be hanging out together next year 😉
