Hard to get players if they don't want to come, but fmd he's probably the best player in the league suited to our current list.

Perfect example tonight, Briggs up against Grundy... but Finn basically won that game for them in the premiership quarter tonight.

There's no way he signed for $700k less per year (than our offer) without 'AFL assistance'.

What could've been... instead we'll end up spending our first pick on pick 15 after all of the bids come through - wouldve preferred that to go towards Callaghan.

Ironically he said that the massive offer would have put him under too much pressure. We scared him off with money.

Not necessarily that relevant to recruitment but I genuinely think missing out on Callaghan on huge money isn’t that big of a deal. You have your own Callaghan at home.

Windy is going through the same progressions as Finn did and will have his breakout into the top echelon of players in the comp next year.

I reckon Garcia might be the one that goes up to an elite level. Windy is progressing like some of the very good mids but we are an impatient supporter base.

Garcia with another 5-8 kg of muscle is going to be a hard man to stop, he has a massive upside IMO

Hope so. Does seem a tad fumbly and isn't a natural ball user but definitely a bull and love his attitude. He's been less fumbly lately tho, which is great. Obvs nas is an a grader, I think Garcia and Windy could get to b+ and phillipou is one I think could be A if he gets his body right. He's a natural footballer and could drift forward too.

Whatever we offered Finn, he was worth it and probably more. I know we give up no draft capital for TDK but hard to compare the same offer to the two. Callaghan is an incredible footballer!
they must have called briggs and callahan together a dozen times last night,if that giants(hopefully premiers 2025)comeback wasnt so exillerating i would have pulled out magnum force to watch it

Garcia looks like a premium inside mid type to me. Has all the assets and attitude looks good. Think he could get to Butters level without too much imagination.

Phillipou comes on as a mid and it's more the classier Bont type. It would actually be a pretty sweet mix. Boxshall looked the goods preseason too. His kicking looks a bit more hit and miss to me. In a few years we probably have a pretty decent young midfield.

Hopefully Nas having runs on ball too and it looks pretty exciting all of a sudden. Small forwards and a tall forward that can get on the park become a priority now.

If they all hit their potential ceiling, Dodson, Garcia, Nas and Phillipou would be a crazy good combo. Add to them Wilson and Windhager on the outside as (respectively) attacking a defensive wings, and then some pretty exciting flankers in Henry, Hall, Trav and Hastie, and we've got this engine room moving forward:

HB: Trav, Hastie

C: Wilson, Phillipou, Windhager

HF: Henry, Hall

Foll: Dodson, Garcia, Nas

Weirdly, if NAS does make the switch to full time mid, we might need another back flanker, as I think Hastie probably projects more as a marking back pocket with a good leg, rather than as a true modern day half backer. Similarly, I reckon Trav will be more wing and mid rotation, as his kicking can be suspect. I personally wouldn't mind seeing what Hall can do there at some point, because he reminds me so much of a young Sinclair. Regardless, the future is looking a lot brighter all of a sudden, or at least it will if NAS signs

I think Garcia getting to butters level is very optimistic. Butters is and was a freak from the get go. Clean as hell. Garcia isn't as clean. Hopefully I'm wrong! Go saints

Hugo has improved significantly in his last bank of games as he held on to the ball and waited for better options to open up. It looks like composure was a big part of his early disposal issues. Funny enough they aren't far apart on disposal efficiency now and were further apart when Butters first started.

Hugo, Phillipou and Nasiah could be a pretty amazing midfield combo if all comes together, with TDK in the ruck.

I agree with your earlier post, we need to find another key forward. That way if King comes back to his best we'll still have a great one-two combo. I don't think we can rely on Caminiti going forward again, Keeler is a huge question mark aswell. Dodson more of a ruck than a forward. Just still seems to be a glaring weakness on the list even if King gets back to his best.

I agree on Garcia, definitely has the level within him.

One thing he has that you can't teach, that the best mids have is that "dog" in them.

Caminiti is still tracking well ahead of a lot for his age but he looks like he should settle into a very solid back now. A back up key forward would be handy. Maybe now that the Hawks have their first picked KPF back we could tempt Chol across. He's been great for them.

Yeah one of their forwards might be squeezed out. That would be a good option.

Nas = Bont

Garcia = Libba

Nas is something unique. One of my Tigers mates reckon that if you put all the best indigenous players together in one package you get Nas. Has bits of McLeod, Winmar, Wanganeen, Rioli etc.

I reckon Phillipou has Bont vibes, that taller impact mid that seems to be a bit classier than the people he's up against. Garcia definitely has the blue collar scrapper in him but he's a bit more quick around the contest and evasive than Libba who seems to drive through traffic. That's why I reckon Butters isn't a bad comparison, he's very quickly at cruising speed and steps around traffic a lot more. Loves a goal too.

Garcia is a poor user at this stage but then so are a lot of the very best midfielders. He's the kind of player that lifts his teammates with his passion and appetite for the contest.
