Can’t help but feel if it’s not this week, it’s over
Yeah if you're Nas and his team, if you aren't signing this week it's not happening.

Which means you're going through the draft and going to West Coast.

Because there is no way Crows or Port can facilitate a trade with the assets they have. We're talking about a top 5 player in the comp right now

If we want a big-bodied mid, we should get Alex Davies

193cm and the type who is also good on transition. Would come very cheap in terms of draft capital especially from Gold Coast

Means we wouldn't have to draft Greeves and can take a more modern-day type like MiniPou or Grlj instead
Definitely wouldn’t hurt and worth a crack. Saints need to target talent that is stuck in the reserves from GWS, GC.

I've honestly always thought that the deal was signed, Nas was staying and that they were just waiting for a win to announce it.

So it if it doesn't come after that performance I'm not sure if it ever will.

Would've been the coldest thing ever for Nas to grab the mic when doing the post game interview and just given it the wolf of wall street "I'm not F'ing leaving"

You really can't judge drafts for years. Trav has had a disappointing first year but players ebb and flow. Sometimes rising star winners turn out to be spuds.

Not discounting Reid I love him as a player but you just can't judge for quite a while. No point writing guys off is all I'm saying.
Absolutely. Dunstan looked elite in his first year.

Quote from Mason Wood in the Age after the game:

“‘Nas’ is probably the best player on the planet,” Wanganeen-Milera’s teammate and ex-housemate Wood told this masthead.
“We’ll all play for free, and he can have all the money.
“He’s a family kid, and he loves his family, which is why the pull home is so strong, obviously. But he also loves this footy club … hopefully, [a new contract] gets done at the end of the year.
“He has to do what’s right for him, but he’s super talented and just wants to get better. I can’t wait, if he stays, because he’s going to drive the standards for this football club for the next 15 years.
“He executes under the most amount of pressure and demands high standards of others, and that’s only going to build, and … he’ll have a really strong, positive impact on the group.”

If the Saints were prepared to pay him $1.2- $1.4 million, perhaps it is time to match the Tom De Koning money of $1.7 million in recognition that Wanganeen-Milera is perhaps one of the top few players in the game.

Not many can do what he did at Marvel.

So maybe an extra $500,000 a year or so on top helps, but it’s the pull of home and family across the border, rather than more fat stacks, that is tempting the jet playmaker back to South Australia anyway.

So the Saints could now give him whatever he wants if this is a view to his ceiling as a player, knowing the best is yet to come.

In any case, holding out on a contract call has helped increase his value and the talk about it has not affected him at all.

St Kilda has lacked marquee stars, but this man can do it all.

And if he does want a trade, the Saints will now ask for three first-round draft picks on that basis if it gets to that.

If he didn’t get a glimpse today of what he means to this footy club and it’s 60 000 supporters - and if that doesn’t sway him, nothing will.

The fact that Jay doesn't know whether he is staying or going given we know his relationship with Ross is concerning...

This is perhaps the most interesting part of Nas' ascension in 2025. His own form has essentially priced him out of a trade.

There's no way Port OR Adelaide can accumulate enough picks to satisfy a trade for someone who is fast becoming (if not already) the best player in the competition.

St Kilda should offer him the same amount of money as TDK immediately and end this. Make him an offer he can't refuse. It's unlikely a trade will get done anyway and our best player should be our highest paid player.

It means cards are being held pretty close to chest.
I doubt Ross is leaking anything to his mates to spoil any announcement.

All I can say is NAS is playing like a guy who loves his club, not one with his eye on the door, like TDK is.

I would be asking for 3 x first rounders and 2 seconds & I wouldn’t be budging.

I want 3 top 10 picks and I want them all in this draft. (Purely because you can’t guarantee what the picks are in 12 months)

Honestly as compromised as the draft is that still wouldn't cut it. I would want 3 genuine top 10 picks.

Any draft pick is still an unknown commodity you don't trade a proven generational talent on a craps shoot of picks pushed out somewhere between 8 - 20.

Look at the piece of the article I’ve posted (the rest was on his performance)

  • Nas doesn’t care for “more fat stacks”
  • rest of the article is about maybe the club paying him more.

Think you got your answer to what is the problem.

Might be the best agent in the league or the luckiest.

Agreed.

But ultimately irrelevant.

They would need to lose Butters to make the picks work.

What would the crows need to lose? Draper?Soligo? Curtain?

I get that. Just saying that Jay not including "the saints are confident in retaining their superstar on an X year deal" tells me that this is either the greatest leakproof operation in club history or they genuinely have no idea of he's staying.
