I don’t believe half of what I read and collingwood are shooting for a flag and have so many players set to retire when this run is done.

Perryman on a million sorry I’m not buying that one, probably front loaded dropping back to something like $750k average out a bit over $800k.

Anyway the first thing we need to do is sign Nas, if he walks it’s a disaster. Loosing him would be bad enough, getting chump change will be brutal.
Riley Beveridge -

Among a busy Trade Period at the AIA Centre last October, the acquisition of Giants free agent Harry Perryman on a six-year deal worth around $900,000 per season was certainly among the splashiest of the Magpies' moves.

Then why was Ross’s answer at the presser so down.
He was trying to be very low key. Keeping a lid on it. He got a bit cheerier toward the end. But obviously the lid came off that night at the function. Looks like they were having a good time.

You’ll forgive me if I flat out don’t believe the press have access to player contracts. It’s a guess, he’s picked a number probably based on what’s he’s heard from his contacts including other journos and just thrown it out there.

Maybe it’s close maybe it’s quite a bit less we’ll never know unless Perryman talks about it at some point. Houston is supposedly on 1million a season and he’s a star. A wonder just for a laugh in someone went through a teams list and added up what each player is on according to the press and then compared it to the salary cap what would it look like.

Geelong are a great example they have a magic wand, no one gets paid at Geelong it’s all about the love of the club and game. Anyway I wouldn’t pay TDK what has been put out there and I certainly wouldn’t pay Aleer anything like $800 plus a year. He makes Howard look like a superstar and we gave him how long on how much.

I don’t disagree it’s overs for TDK right now no question and with Dodson coming I too question IF he’s a priority interesting hearing Roo say tonight Nas and TDK deals are not at all reliant on each my concern isn’t what it does to Nas pay day it’s what it does to Pou or Windy or Tauru in 3 years when he wants his whack .. that said IF you can pay it forward early cap rises by 35% over next 5 years perhaps they aren’t worried bout the juggle
To know how foolhardy it is you’d have to know how that’s managed
It’s still a lot for a ruck though so TDK better get to 1st 8 games of this year TDK then no issue

Cap rises but so does every newly signed contract. It gets eaten up very quickly.

Paying players with potential champion money seems a desperate move unless it's a Callaghan or Rowell types who would be a huge needle mover. Even then you can go 10% over market value with some extras and make it look a lot less desperate.

I personally wouldn't pay any ruck more that $1 million a year.

It’s hardly unbelievable. It triggered band 1 compo. So ultimately they are still paying Perryman a shit load.

I can't find the exact figure for rookies, but 1st year players also receive a $4k game bonus for every game played, so that's another $96k if all games are played, a not too shabby sum
$146k before tax IF he plays every game.

I wouldnt talk that up too much personally. Granted there are the AFL list player benefits of sponsor clothes and meals paid for etc but hed likely make more working a stop slow bat on a union site and playing country footy on the weekend.

Amazing that we’ve only won one of those games.

Adelaide were bottom 4 last year and still paid their best players. The idea of list management is to keep adding depth to your talent pool until you have enough to be competitive. Saints fans seem to get confused by the objective at times.

Averages 0.69 Brownlow votes a game, higher than any St Kilda player in the current era - more than Brownlow votes pig Robert Harvey.

Averages 27.44 disposals a game.

Nas, Hall and Pou have barely played any AFL midfield minutes in their career. Garcia and Box the same, these guys are all loved by us because of potential - none are proven long term.

We only have Macrae and Steele who have played midfield for a prolonged period.

Apparently Walsh is only on $825k a year, which is what we are offering Leek bloody Aleer 🤣

If he's not cooked, which i dont believe he is, he is a no brainer as a 25 year old bonafide a grade mid.

I reckon our young mids are looking good for the first time in years. Walsh is very good but he's a bit vanilla and a bit outside.

Putting another senior mid in the best 22 means out starting midfield set up is probably Steele, Macrae and Walsh. Looks pretty uninspiring to me.

He's worth whatever clubs will pay and then probably a lot more than that to us.

How good would it be watching players like Monty Byrnes, Zak Jones & Paddy Dow for the next few years instead of having the best player in the comp all for the sake of some dumb theory based on Ablett leaving a side stacked with AA and premierships players?

I'm looking forward to the day that our salary cap is tricky to manage, at the moment we're courting average players on buddy franklin deals after overpaying duds for years to reach the salary cap floor

Carlton got to prelim finals level and then got movement hamstrung by SOS's ridiculously OTT contracts for guys like Jack Martin, Zac Williams, the shit McGovern, Saad, Cerra, Hewett and Kennedy. Throw in a handful of stars on huge money and it means that the cap is extremely tight. They really needed a gun small forward but instead lost Kennedy, Owies and other depth guys and had to go drafting instead.

It doesn't seem like an issue now but in year 7 it probably bites really hard.

Bongos = something about the jungle drums are beating?

Listening to Adam Simpson talk strategy on SEN, clubs have names for set plays, impact moments, drills, intensifying momentum etc. My guess is that it's probably a term that they use when they go hard in impact periods.

That said I'm going to pretend it's code for having signed a contract.

Sounds brutal but happy to move Steele on in his twilight years. I saw a poster say Walsh would cost $1.7m, if that's the case no way, but he may just want out of that dumpster fire.

We've been screaming for mids for years and whilst we've got a couple of speculative gems in the middle/late rounds of the draft, I still think we need to make the most of any opportunities to strengthen that line.

I'm Macraes biggest fan, but he's on the wrong side of 30. I'm not advocating it as a must do, but I dont think we should be overlooking possibilities to strengthen any line.

SOS left Carlton in 2019.

But sure what happened in 2023 was on SOS and I’m sure you are probably thinking what happened this year relates to him to 😂

I mean it 100% has nothing to do with:

Cripps signing a new 6 year deal deal in 2021
Curnow signing a new 6 year deal in 2022
McKay signing a new 7 year deal in 2022
Walsh signing a new 4 year deal in 2022
Weitering signing a new 6 year deal in 2024
Cerra signing a new 5 year deal at the start of 2025
McGovern signed a new deal in 2023

Saad got traded at the end of 2020 to Carlton
Williams joined at the end of 2020
Hewett joined in 2021 and signed a new deal this year aswell 😂

Bloody sos hey. Even when he wasn’t there he still ****ed the place up. What a legend

Watch the first 4 and half minutes if you haven't already, goosebumps.

I will be broken if we lose this man

Garry was right about who ever edited up the package. Great music choices too.
