We love his rebound but don't underestimate Max's ability to lock down on a player. I think we need to bring in Bond to play on Watson, and rely on others for rebound.

That would be the logical choice that anyone with half a brain would make. But you just know that we’re going back to the Smith well.

Yet another selection test for us coming up, which I’m very much expecting to fail.

For the watchers, how has Bond’s SANFL form been? We need to lock down on Watson/Elliot in the coming weeks. Bond or Chayce to back pocket who’s actually been okay defensively there before. Smith isn’t the answer in this scenario I don’t think.

Bond is starting to look too good for sanfl level.

Not necessarily because he’s dominating, but he is winning 50/50 contests, his hands have become super clean and his decision making is improving rapidly.

He’s a much improved footballer even compared to last year.

Hope he gets a gig this weekend.

Well that’s all I needed to hear.

Bond in, no questions asked. We have to go like for like and shutdown these smalls imo.

How did he look out of interest?

Out - Michalanney
In - ????

Our strongest back 6/7 means playing Cumming in defence. My gut feeling is we want to continue the experiment rotating 3 wingmen (Cumming, Curtin and Cook) but it is a 50/50 call.

If not Cumming then Smith is the obvious choice but Bond is a better lockdown defender or do we finally give Edwards a run?

Who plays on Impey?
As it happens, Impey isn’t their number one rebounding defender *, it is Karl Amon. When we played then in Tassie we had a defensive forward on Amon and he had one of his quieter matches. They then decided to move the ball through Impey who had his best match for the year. Impey has also spent time forward in recent matches. In recent weeks we have used Zac on the oppositions best rebounding defender so I expect Zac to get the job on Amon.

Crouch is a few weeks away from a call up. For those that didn’t watch the SANFL, he isn’t match fit but he played a lot better than a couple of posters keep saying (again and again).

In addition to Bond and Edwards, the next in line, imho, if a spot opens up are Nankervis (forward) and Dowling (wing).
Playing Keane, Worrell, Murray and Borlase against the Hawks is really thinking outside the box 🙄.

My guess is Out - Michalanney. In - Cumming

I really don’t want cumming to go back, I think he and Curtin on the wings has been a big part of our stellar second half of the year.

I’d give bond a run of games and unfortunately chayce goes out.

I agree. I might be too optimistic but I have the impression that Cumming is about to hit top form as a winger. Is he more important to our defence playing on the wing? Similar story with Curtin.

He and Curtin work so hard to be the extra back in defence or that release kick wide to safety. They’ve both got that wing position down pat. I wouldn’t be messing with that formula.

If it was one game then maybe, but we’re talking the next 4 games minimum that Max is out. Give Hugh Bond a solid run.

I'd say Curtin getting 14 CBAs in the second half implies our days of running just 2 wingmen is behind us
I'd say that was because we were already killing it so we took the opportunity to do it... and things got even better so we stuck with it.

Last season we often had a 3 winger rotation and earlier in the season Curtin split time between the forward line and the wing. Until he recent loss of defenders mid-game we were using Curtin and Cumming as full-time wingmen with our mids taking up the slack when one of them were on the bench. Interestingly ANB was used on the wing in the second half on Saturday.

I’m not sure if we are experimenting with the flexibility of our players or merely reacting to player loss due to injury. We do have an opportunity to evaluate some of our fringe players over the next 4 weeks.

I can't see this being more than Cumming in for Michalanney.

Bond or Smith a small outside chance, in which case one of Cook, Taylor, Pedlar or Jones would miss out.

I’d like to see Cumming/Bond in for MM/Pedlar. Cook takes the Pedlar role, Cumming back on the wing and Bond to cover Max. I have a feeling it will just be Cumming who comes in though.

Was at training.

Rankine doing running and finished early, but seemed fine.

Butts back running which is good to see. Cumming trained fully.

In match sim Jones was on B team and Bond in the As. Worth noting however that Laird was in the Bs which we obviously know won’t be the case, tho maybe it was to give Bond some exposure in that small defender role?

Anyway think it’s quite likely Bond gets a gig for Jones.

Cook, Taylor and Pedlar were all in the A team. Smith and Murphy were in the Bs.

Gonna hazard a guess that it’s Cumming and Bond in for Max and Jones.

How was Berry's toe?

Looked fine and trained great. Confidence is an amazing thing.
Probably helps that there's a few players outside the 22 capable of coming in

"I feel great coach!"

Haha tbh if he was in any sort of pain, he certainly hid it well.

Couple of things he did today were pretty impressive, in the wet too. He’s playing on Friday for sure.
He mentioned on the Sunday Footy Show that where he grew up in Victoria had lots of wet weather, so he feels right at home in those conditions

I'd be perfectly ok if the inclusions were Bond and Cumming

That's going to make the call on the other player to be omitted and the sub interesting
