So we are blowing it all up are we? You have seen the books, know all the current contracts, how it is structured going forward, who the 37% increase in SC is built in to each and every contract? I don't think so.
You say there are other ways of doing it.
One way is to go after an established star, too bad we haven't tried that I suppose.
Maybe target young stars about to explode like a Xerri or Callaghan, wish we had of tried for those two stars.
Maybe enlighten us in all the innovative different ways we could have used the salary cap.
Please enlighten us. There is a pattern with you gringo, you get all huffy when your inconsistent opinions are highlighted.
Try harder Theo, daddy Dard Cosby will have to sit you down for some more fatherly advice.

Calm down and stop squawking. No-one has any contracts in front of them but if you can't see the logic behind not spending too much of your cap on a few players that aren't elite. You mustn't be much of an accountant.

I don't mind it as long as the trade cost isn't too high. Really we replace Butler with a dominant small forward with X factor. We really need to start getting wins next year. He could probably play until 32 to 34. Once Wilkie, Sinclair etc are gone. we are going to be falling backing back a fair bit. It lets us push for finals before that happens.

I know the "when the senior players retire we fall off a cliff" contention is well ventilated... but Nas is already better than peak Sinclair and I've loved Sincs since day 1. But Sinclair doesn't have the last minute on Sunday in his bag.

I think we've probably started to see the Steele forward transition, Macrae is nice to have but not foundational, and others (Wood, Hill) are on the list at reasonable salaries now to help the rebuild. Wilkie is the only one who comes close to irreplaceable, and we're misusing him a bit right now (play two other specialist tall defenders alongside Wilkie please).

IMO at some stage (as long as Nas stays) before the end of next season the switch will take place suddenly. I don't see a cliff as likely as the burden is already being removed from older players.

Also, here's who didn't play on Sunday (where our two best players were Nas and Hall):

Travaglia, King, Wilson, Phillipou, Garcia.

I’d happily part with a second rounder.

I don’t think he is the messiah. But he is unique against our entire defensive talls cohort. Young enough to be around and as we are trying to lure him we are probably throwing 10-15% more on a deal.

750k (reported figure) isn’t really damaging unless Aleer is absolutely shit. His form this season says he can hold his own.

It just hasn’t answered the question of if he can be more.
I watch too much football and I pay attention to guys we’re linked to.

Aleer isn’t much of a player at present, he has played 20 odd games and will be 24 later this year. That’s a massive leap of faith imo. If you want a guy who can come third man up with a fist then great but that’s about it at present. He’s not an intercept mark, he doesn’t get much of the ball and you wouldn’t want the ball in his hands anyway.

I’m sorry but I can’t back that let alone get excited about it. With Howard back why do we even need him ?. Wilkie, Howard, Caminiti, and we have young Barrett who hopefully will get a better run at it next year. If that not enough, sit back and wait to see who becomes available.

On Nas, realistically, I think we should prepare ourselves for disappointment. There is unfortunately enough concerning reports to counter the positive ones. I think the club means a lot to him and we are clearly prepared to do whatever is needed moneywise to retain him, but being unsigned at round 20 is now in the likely to leave category.

*Millennial thanks grey bags 😘
Hahaha you will have a dissociative disorder like everyone else of your neuro diverse generation because you have stared at the little black box that makes you sad since inception.
I lived through the f**k around century, you get to be old in the find out century 🙂

Nas is our first elite player since Rooey. I think we all know that. Maybe those kids will jump up and. fill the gaps but that's still unknowable at this stage. We might not fall off a cliff but you'd be crazy not to be planning for life after them.

Also helps Nas to be supported by a crew of excellent older player. Notice how Ross was more in awe of Marshall than Nas who was good enough to ice it.

If you have watched as much football as you mentioned you would know Aleer has been playing on the best opposition tall each week.

By no means am I calling him good or a star or a future anything. But he has been serviceable. He is also 5 years younger than Dougal. He has also been getting better each week

Why, near 30 year old who is seriously hot and cold, potentially for a young small forward who might end up being better.

This is the exact same thing as us going after Zak Jones, Dougal, Hill etc.

Just keep backing in the youth movement and have patience
Well I don’t think it’s controversial to say he is a very good footballer.

The other thing is that when you look at our OOC list and the long rumoured 2 year deal to Nas. You want to be very good very quickly because there is a massive fork in the road in 2027.

Isn't that the reason they have used the cap surplus to overpay a ruck? Instead of paying the likes of Lonie, Newnes, Billings, Dunstan et al a small fortune this time?
And let’s not underestimate the fact that’s it’s in all probability heavily front - loaded. So the $$$ will be available after the first 2/3 years when we really need it.
Tom Morris -

Geelong is going to come for Marshall. What we ask for in return might be the only stumbling block.

Nas - no one knows what he wants to do. Even his best mates. Saints could ask for 2 top 10 picks and a third first in the teens.
Ol Tommy has spoken to Windy, Mitch et al has he?

All supposition - most probably from Wood’s interview when he said they’re all working in persuading him.

And on Wood - good to see him regain some very good form on the weekend.

No arguments from me, very jealous of you lot 😂
(Although I was a reader not a tv watcher)
My generation (which I had to google) are a bunch of pussies for the most part. Being raised by the softest gen in history will do that I guess

He's a much better player than any of those apart from maybe peak Brad Hill. He's also a real team lifter type. He took a pack mark that set up Dom Sheed to win them the flag in his first season. Mark of the year winner too.

Why you little....

You would be nuts if Richmond didn’t appeal to you after seeing what they did for brand Dusty.
I’d say Dusty did a lot for Richmond and I don’t see him going into a side that may or may not build much over the next few years.

The talk is Hawthorn love him and think they can get him if not this year next. Carlton who struck a deal with WC last year might also be a sneaky chance with the TDK pick and maybe a surprise trade they’d have the capital. Harley and Jagga, Dean coming in, walker next year.

Is Dovaston a reach if we grabbed him with our first to develop behind Ryan?
Haven’t started reading into the draft and pretending I know what I’m talking about yet.

(Preference is to keep Collard above all)

Probably goes between 15 to 30 range. He's probably a little bit of a stretch but there aren't many small forwards around and modern footy requires a couple of good ones these days.

Rose coloured glasses stav he’s a projection based on a wish and not much else.

Morris also links us to Liam Ryan. (West coast)
Hard pass for me.

Surgery on both hammies in 2023/24.

Behind Higgins in almost every metric, including career games, but 3 years older.

Not defensively strong, which a key aspect of what we'd be looking for to replace Butler

Bit of off-field stuff over the journey.

WC would be looking for draft capital, they wouldn't be throwing him away for a token 4th rounder or anything.

Persevere with Collard, or find a better option who suits the age demographic if Collard wants out.

Richmond at their best puts you infront of 60k+ every week.

Dusty might be the greatest of this generation. But it goes hand in hand.

Reid and his agent want him set up for life hence asking west coast to agree to a $2m a season 10 year deal. You cannot rule out Richmond if what he wants is a talented young list and potential to make absolute bank at the same time.
