This. Its delusional to think any ready made KPD in their prime is coming to North. We get the scraps and hope we get lucky. When we're top 4 again maybe we're a chance of a premium player in a trade.

We need a KPD (several) but we should draft one with Pick 21 and wait 4 years to see if they're any good? That doesn't track. Lever is on the down but still has a few years we can squeeze out. You would take Lever over KDawson, Logue, Corr, and even Pink (sorry love him still).

Well interesting when Clarko says "we're not going down the same path again" as last year.
But wouldn't surprise me if it was Todd or Brady inquiring.

He's contracted until end of 2028 with the Dees, so probably an easy one to throw out there from the media.
I very much doubt he leaves and not sure if they have young defenders ready to take over either.
Jay Clark even just threw out Lever, May and Ridley as random names we might be interested in.

If we were going for an out of favour tall backman I think they might look at Liam Jones, but after the Caleb Daniel trade they might still feel burnt. I wouldn't mind if they had a crack at Silvagni, he's looked good playing back, but is probably undersized for what we need.

A Lever bandaid is more of the same thing with a different player. There seems to be this idea that if we throw enough average senior players at our problem it will go away. Spoiler, it won’t.

Our key defenders for the next 20 years should be Chom & Dawson. Build around them. It ain’t f*kn rocket science.

Agree it's Chom and Dawson, but they need experienced blokes from good defensive teams to learn from.

Richmond's defence is learning from Vlaustin and Broad. West Coast been learning from Gov and Duggan.

We have Jed Adcock and Caleb Daniel.

A big reason why we're in the hole we're in. These blokes should be our experienced vets now.

Well lucked out with free agency with McKay, but how is our back line in the state it is in with such draft, trade, and free agent investment?

I wouldn't use any of our picks this year on a kpd. That's a future draft use a later pick to add a young developing option.
At some point you have to back in Will Dawson, Comben and Whitlock and give them experience together.

It's kinda the same issue with Jones being 34. Silvagni hasn't been part of a successful team really and will go to Pies.
I'd be looking more mid 20's ideally for someone who is more of a distributor who can fit around Chom/Dawson/Whitlock/Pink and help give some direction, but easier said than done to find them.

I think because May lets him play the unaccountable spare and when May is out he actually has to play on someone.

Pass from me. Lever is 29. Dropped by the Dees. Hasn't really had a good year at all.
I understand how they might want someone who is more of a vocal and directing leader back there compared to a Logue or Corr, but he's not going a very accountable defender and is nearing the end.
I'd rather get a mid 20's player like a Budarich or Starcevich type who could have 5+ years left in them.
If we trade for Lever, we're incredibly stupid. And if we give up 20 or 21, then we're even more incredibly stupid.
It wouldn't bloody surprise me given the moves we've made.

Screams pick 2 if you ask me.

The main reason why we shouldn’t be chasing Lever is because he isn’t a KPD. His best footy is always as a third tall.

May with a combo of Petty/Mcdonald take the big boys and he gets to free wheel and go third man up. He isn’t a particularly good one on one player, which goes for the rest of our defenders.

Not just that, but I’d imagine he won’t come cheap either.
