Done plenty of those sort of things, and no-one other than the psychopaths that seem to occupy the CEO seats of a lot of corporations seem to actually like them. Most people prefer something simpler, and just enjoy the better class of booze being served.

Anyway, most black tie corporate dinners still end up as just another booze-up in my experience......

As for the cutlery, start on the outside and work your way in.........
Gazpacho soup 🤣🤣 waiter my soups cold, or Gringo staring at the fish knife.

Yep sociopathy is almost a requirement at the very top end of town. No sane person could do what they have to do lol

One of my oldest mates just quit as a CEO in an energy industry role. He's one of the most competitive blokes you'd ever meet and it was too much for him doing the nastier stuff when it came to sacking staff and loading others up because of it.

Played the corporate game for years only to get to the top and the money wasn't worth it after all. He's gone back to working at a TAFE in a pretty decent role but it's like cents in the dollar.

losing butters would rip the port team apart just as much as losing NAS would us. Port cannot afford to lose Butters. Heart and sole player
Way less so than Nas IMO.

They still have a Brownlow medallist and their captain is argurably as good.

This was pre the empire he was but a mere reporter, no doubt still worth a bit but id suggest his access and notoriety was more the appeal back then.

Used to see him at Melbourne United games more recently, fatter, never with a woman, one assumes he squeezes in with call girls like proper rich ****ers do.
Saw Hutchy doing donuts (while probably eating them) in the old gravel car park at Docklands circa 2000. In a Nissan 280ZX no less.

Had a glamour in the car with him then too.

Fat & rich eh?

I picked the wrong option sadly.

it certainly pricked my ears. Hutchy is very very good in this space and is friendly with player managers.
I’ll quote what Hutchison said.

“This has been tracking for him (NWM) to be staying with a 2 year deal at St Kilda. If you were framing a market it would be the favourite until yesterday”. (the game against Melbourne).

“I just wonder whether his Manager is missing a trick here. Like he’s going to get one chance to get properly, properly paid, in this environment of stability and security”.

“He’ll get more money than TDK but it won’t happen inside 2 years. He’ll get that over 4 or 5. I suspect if he stays this deal gets extended to longer to account for the type of money that he deserves”.

“I think it will be years now …..”.

When Cornes suggested an option extension for NWM to re-sign at St Kilda Hutchison said “I’m not certain about that. I think this will end up with 3, 4 or 5 years”.

In relation to Butters, Hutchison said it is the only window Port has to facilitate a trade.

“Their (PA) only move is to test Zac Butters early”.

“It’s him (Butters) plus something to get him (NWM) now. Butters for NWM doesn’t stack up any more.”

Make of that what you will.

According to Jon Ralph, a current mock has Gold Coast matching bids with picks 1 (Uwland) & 4 (Patterson) while Brisbane matches with pick 2 (Annable).

Sydney will match with pick 13 (King).

Carlton will match with pick 7 (Dean - F/S).

Honestly, this has now got to the point where the whole draft is utterly gangrenous. More unjustifiable top 5 picks for Brisbane and Gold Coast while Sydney gets a nice little bonus after their first pick.

The draft is putrid. Without credibility and totally corrupted.

It’s time. No more concessions for anyone. Immediately.

In a perverse way, I would take pleasure if any club had the guts to just bid on all of these blokes (very early in the draft) and turned the whole thing into a farce. Because that’s what it is.

In fact, get rid of the bloody draft. Blow it up. Have a salary cap only and enforce it ruthlessly with crippling penalties that can be both prospective and retrospective.

If necessary, the AFL spends money on a dedicated department with strict and rigorous disclosure requirements that doesn’t exempt marketing and third party deals as part of the cap.

Probably won’t ever happen, which is a shame. The draft has become part of the AFL publicity hogging machine.

Sorry for the rant.
Do you think you would want that much if we were gold coast, Sydney, Carlton (ugh) etc with access to 1st round father and sons, instead of ...

Can't replace uncompromising effort, agression and consistency who is also very talented by foot and leg speed. Would have been like losing Lenny Hayes for us. JHF or Rozee wouldn't be as bigger loss.

Not trying to be negative but do you feel that way about Phillipou's apparent 2030 extension? He was great last year for ~6 games but his current "body of work" seems to be about the same as Hall in my opinion.
We should probably wait until he's coming out of his current contract & has put together a Nas like season before worrying about an extension.

That's always popular with the fans... and great for their health.

The outward perception if Nas leaves will be awful.

It will be 2 seasons in a row where a player leaves.

Add to the fact we’re wildly overpaying for a good-very good ruck.

The media will pot us endlessly. We don’t appear to have our house in order but we’re overpaying for not top end talent etc etc.

Very grim.
Don't worry about the media. They have no interest in keeping clubs happy, only selling media hype.
If Nas leaves or TDK comes in, whatever, we'll be thrown under the bus. You can't control it.
The club is in the winning premierships business. They'll do everything they can to keep him, and TDK is seperate and it's the right move for many reasons.

The exact sentiments a number of us have expressed for some time RE dollars and cents.

The manager wants a foot in each camp.

I know a few people who have really succeeded in life and I don’t think you’d have picked any of them to have what it takes to do what they do.

You’d think that uber competitive ruthless streak would have been evident but no not a bit of it. All were really good people, smart, ambitious yes but nothing over the top. Maybe some people grow into the role and learn to play the game, it’s certainly not for everyone.

We took a bloke down to Brisbane from The Isa one year for a conference and stayed at a flash hotel. We were late booking in so somehow got upgraded suites. Anyhow he never left his room for three days. He’s never been anywhere so upmarket. Got room service drank the fridge dry which was miraculously refilled each day. He spent a fair percentage of his time either in the spa or walking around his suite in the hotel bath robe. The first time he had a apa and emptied it there was a ring of mount Isa ingrained skin dirt around the rim 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I’m in doing relatively well in a senior gig within the tech space and I’ve given myself an expiry date in the role because it’s genuinely soul destroying. Stick around for long enough to get ahead in life and then cash out.

Stay calm sainters.

Lets hope nas is just weighing up between signing for 2 years or a mega long contract.

Hall is resigned which is great news that we haven’t appreciated enough.

Worry about it being only 2 years later. Puts pressure on our performances in the next two years which we probably do need as a club.

Pou back this week! Resigning to 2030 by the looks. Great news

Windy will stay. He’s a saint through and through, he’ll just be holding out for more money which is recent performances are asking for.

Tdk confirmed coming. Yes huge contract but he’s a big need, people are forgetting Marshall was getting bitched for 3 quarters. He’s been playing injured this year and is still a great player. Also hasn’t reached his peak yet as most rucks do at 28-30. In saying that also looks like Marshall will stay as well, with the sub rule being out next year this will be huge.

Aleer looks prettt much confirmed as well. Yes still question masks but allows tauru to develop forward which is a big need.

Things are looking up saints.

Talking of gazpacho, it's very average in my book.

GETTABLE

Belief of several clubs that NWM is now worth $2m per season. Prevailing view is that STK need to match that valuation in order to keep him. Widespread belief that Port is ahead of Adelaide & have gone ALL IN
If anyone didn't see this coming they weren't paying attention and if SOS didn't see this coming and prepare for it, we need to get him out of the club ASAP. If we lose him over money with our war chest, I'm out.

My ears pricked up when I heard it.

My impression was that it wasn’t just opinion but that he had some inkling (somehow).

Hutchison seemed adamant. It was the first time anyone had suggested a deal longer than 2 years. It took Cornes by surprise.

Anyway, we’ll find out soon enough.

Wonderful, oh well at least someone wants to play for us.

One of the things BJ said this morning that he wanted to be a "Saint for life" as a player, and it was not his choice to not be. He is clearly quite bitter that he was made to move on.

He loves being back at the Saints. Stated that he was hired to be part of Ratten's team, but after Ross was appointed was even happier that he also got to be back with Lenny and Harvey again as well as being back with Ross..
