I wonder what Oliver's contract says about playing VFL ?

What sort of penality is there for breach sal cap to rebalance their cap? If they could push money forward to rebalance their cap.. this year might be the time to do it. Get excluded from R1 ? They do not have an R1.

Ideally it would be great if you could trade out a big contract to a club like the saints with heaps of cap room.

The list looks ordinary. Id have a look at which players have value. I cant see anyone who is OOC in 25 that would gather a decent pick or really appeal much to other clubs.

The AFL should take some reasonability. Allowing these stupid contract lengths without having some sort of buy out as protection.

not meaning to be silly but I hope we never find out - he's just not worth 1/2 his numbers at the moment IMO

But anyone courting him would have to know that answer - but even at 50% off - its a lot of $$ for VFL.

I think it would be both. Even if he takes a $500k pay cut, his salary would be north of $1mil a season, which would still require Melbourne paying a significant portion.

His currently salary is so far from his worth that it would require both, not one or the other.
Why would he take a pay cut?

No way he's on 700. 550-600

Jack Silvagni?

Already been well reported that the offers from both Carlton & now Collingwood are near identical - mid $600ks per year for 4 years

If another team was to come in at this stage then they'd likely have to be pushing $700k to get a look in

According to Edmund, Carlton’s Silvagni offer is close to $700,000 a season over four years.

The Herald Sun is reporting that Collingwood’s offer tops that $700k mark. The report also suggested that Carlton wouldn’t budge on four years if the Magpies came over the top with a five-year deal.

“My understanding is it’s a four-year deal from Carlton worth close to $700,000 a season. So somewhere around $2.5 million over the life of that deal,” Silvagni said.

Cheers,

I managed to read an article from The Age earlier today the was suggesting mid $600k from both

Based on the various reports it's then safe to say that you won't get a look in unless you're willing to offer north of $700k - I'm happy to pass

Highlighted things related to Geelong i.e the ruck merry-go-round we might find ourselves in if Stanley retires, about draft quality from the point of GWS head of talent and Worpel.

There was very little of interest bar the comment on Brisbane getting another gun kid.

On that last point, the afl needs to hold the clubs accountable to their own contracting decisions. If they bail out one that is going to breach the cap on a dud contract they'll be up to their armpits in dud contracts overnight bailing everyone out

Gonna be a great poster child for stubbornly holding a player to club and contract that they arent worth - mind you aint stopped other clubs throwing mega numbers and deal offers at players

People can all see the CO cliff coming - yet they all think it cant and wont happen to them. Titanic mentality.

No idea who this is. Does it hold any weight?

To be honest , I cant see any of the question marks at geelong in 2026
Max Blake, the voice of local footy, commentator and diehard Geelong fan.
I follow him on X. Other than that I can tell you nothing.
Considering Geelong are in some way connected to so many players, I personally tend to take all suggestions with a grain of salt at this time of year.

I never mentioned a bail out. I do think that they should mandate max contract length. If the afl can put a cap on earnings to ensure clubs stay sustainable ..I think 5 years is plenty in an era of concussion etc.

I’m not saying it will happen because that requires all parties to be on board and there’s always moving parts, what I did say was the club is interested. That is absolutely true, we don’t know just “how” interested Rowan is but he did nothing to shut down the rumours when he very easily could have.
Jon Ralph and Moneyball put out an article on Saints behalf saying “we aren’t trading him”

But we’ve heard those exact words before with contracted players, and they’ve ended up at another club the next year.
It’s a wait and see.

I get it but SOS is stubborn and they have more cap space than everyone. I can't see them agreeing to trade him out of goodwill they will hold him i think.
