Interesting stat I saw today.

Our midfield is widely panned as no good.

I definitely feel, like most, it can be improved significantly.

But we are actually eighth in the AFL for avg. clearances per match.

Just behind Adelaide and ahead of Geelong. Two flag contenders.

Considering the natural improvement we have in this area going forward with Nas, Hall, Windy, Hugo, Poo and Box - it's not a bad situation to be in.

I have no idea what's going on in the background but i do know one thing , Nas is going to be one of the best players in the league if he already isn't ( yeah i know ground breaking news) but you just cant go completely mental and offer him crazy money just because we want to keep him.
I don't recall clubs like Geelong and Brisbane back in the day when they were always in grand finals paying crazy amounts to one player , they all stuck together and took less to win flags , its called a team not an individual.
We have a lot of good young kids coming through who in a year or so who could be demanding big money for their next contract and how's it going to work out if we cant keep them because Nass and his manager has bled us dry.
Players i see taking massive steps are Garcia, Hastie , Box , Hall, Tauru, Keeler when he gets his sh1t together, Dodson plus the general improvement of blokes like Windy , Hammer , Sharman , Tobie, Windy, Wilson and if the giraffe cand get on the park (although Max has already taken a fair bite of the pie)
We need to offer Nas a fair deal and if he wants to stay with us he does, if he wants to go home so be it , you cant just keep throwing cash at him , sooner or later you need to say we have been more than fair and if we want to keep this list together this is all we can afford to pay you.
Who knows in Two years time Tauru maybe the hottest ticket in town demanding more than Nas and we say sorry but we spent all our cash on Nas

Ports next month is Geelong in Geelong, Fremantle in Adelaide, Carlton and Marvel and Suns at home.

3 of those could be genuine blow outs, and we should be preying for that.

I'm reluctant to invest so much interest in a sport again. A normal club lets you flit in, see a flag every few years and stay half invested. This club is like a dependent child that lives at home unemployed calling you at work to bring home groceries and playing on the PS all day.

OK how about this theory.

Maybe Nas told SOS in May that he was leaving, no second thoughts possible.

SOS said "that sux but let's take these Port Adelaide ****ers for everything they've got" and obviously Big Brother Ben Williams agreed.

So Williams hasn't told Port that they've got him. We've been continually upping our offer and suckering Port into bigger and bigger numbers - which will also be in our favour when inevitably this goes to mediation during the trade period.

Gets him now to $2m/year (probably not but who knows).

Love Nas, he's a fantastic player and I'd like nothing better than to watch him in our colours for the rest of his career.

But $2m/year is impossible and cripples any club. He can win games off his own boot but not 20 a season. If he's going to leave then we should make Port pay the absolute highest price possible. Maybe that's what SOS has been doing all year.
