Murmurs are Darcy Cameron is doing a Liam Baker/Chad Warner and buying a house in W.A. Not sure it means too much or not but it definitely is a eyebrow raiser

If he is being super underpaid for his production then he will leave.

Pies will come to the table.
Dont think its that simple. What if this is a Tom De Koning scenario? I mean are Collingwood going to give Cameron say 4 years 5 mill deal that Eagles might be offering. Could they even do that? Beyond that what if it money is only a part of the issue and instead he also wants to go back to W.A if thats where he plans on living his life

Another scenario is if Collingwood feel Ben King is all wrapped up then can they push to keep Darcy Cameron or does it become one or the other?

Something tells me Darcy Cameron is at WCE, Sam Draper is at Adelaide and Reily O'Brien is at Collingwood come pre season

But how do these deals get done
Darcy Cameron is in the top 3 Ruckman in the game and the Pies have him contracted for another year and dont have to trade unless they get a pick good enough to bring in the replacement which i believe they would have their eyes on Marshall and not O'Brian

Yep all leppitsch will say is sorry mate youre not going until next year and do what you like then. Pies are in the window this year and next, then theyll find the next Darcy Cameron from another club with a pick in the 50s

Wasn't Matt Rowell buying a house in Victoria as well this year?

Updates are Collingwood/Cameron still not close to a deal. I think its coming close to certain he requests a trade to West Coast. Its just a case of if Collingwood say No and hold him to his deal/dont wanna do anything

I imagine Eagles would give Collingwood the points they need for the 2 academy/fs players they have

Why do you imagine this?

Why do you imagine this?
Because I think its what you would want really. Points to bring in McGuane and McCarthy is still needed to prevent going into a big deficit in a better draft so suspect you will want to find some points.

You will need a new ruck but think you will be creative around that and look for someone younger and cheaper. I can see Collingwood going for Rowan Marshall myself and beating Geelong to the punch

Where do you think McGuane and McCarthy will be bid at?

How is Marshall going to be cheaper if their is a bidding war against Geelong? (Plus Carlton may join in if TDK goes to the saints)

Sorry I mean cheaper salary wise. IMHO St Kilda would happily take on a bunch of his wages to get a better deal out of you which is probably ideal for your list

If you can get St Kilda covering Marshalls wage for next 3 years to the point you paying him 500k and as a result you

  • Lose future 1st
  • Gain Jack Silvagni
  • Gain draft points for McGuane and McCarthy

Out of all that i think Collingwood would be happy with what they achieved by the end of it

Don't really understand him wanting to leave this year, or West Coast wanting him this year.

Just wait 1 year. Collingwood has 1 more year at the very top before their stars start to fade. West Coast can get him for free via FA.

Our ruck situation is that dire in reality. I dont think we can go another season with Reid/Hewett/Hall etc playing without a competitive ruck. Its killing our rebuild entirely at this point

Cameron would understand the offer we are making probably wont be there in 2027 at the financial level it is now. If Cameron signs its too frontload the crap out of his deal before someone like Harley Reids extension kicks in . It will be now or never to collect that pay cheque from us

Excluding JSOS your deal would be lose 2026 1st and gain draft points for 2025?

Questions:
Collingwood:
Why wouldn't we just hold DC to his contract then use our 2026 1st for 2025 points.

StKilda:
If the saints are paying $1.7M for TDK. Get Leek Aleer ($900K rumoured) and keep NWM ($1.2M+) why would they want to or have the cap space to pay some of Marshalls wage?

Draft:
With comp picks (Allen, Draper), NA (Uwland, Annable, King, Patterson, Addinsall), NGA (Whan, Sweid) and F&S (Dean), late first round / early second round players are likely to be picked up at pick 30-40. If this hppens to McGuane and McCarthy we could easily match them by trading our 2026 2nd rather than our 1st.

1 year could be $500k less money for a bloke who apparently being paid unders and is now 30yo. Or if he gets a big injury even more money.

Also don’t think he’s been at at Pies for 8 years so would still be a trade at the end of next year

Minimum would be pick 19 by us I think for McGuane.

North would be on McCarthy at pick 21 I suspect
I think McGuane will slide.
It seems if a FS doesn’t attract a bid early 1st round, clubs tend to move on until later in the draft.

I think McCarthy will be bid on first.

Club doesn't expect to have any issue in matching bids. Can always trade a 2026 2nd round pick for a couple of 2nd round picks in this draft.

It's funny how contracts work.
You take on a guy playing VFL footy and then extend his contract as a 2nd ruckman at an acceptable contract.
He becomes a very good player and while still under that contract, the pile on that he is underpaid is incredible.
How many players have taken big contracts and not delivered? Grundy, Oliver etc, but you dont see any of them handing back part of their salary to their clubs.

Alastair Lynch signed what, a 10 yr deal for $1m? He ended up being the lowest paid player at Brisbane during his later years.

Cameron has another year to run on his contract. If he wants to break his contract, and Eagles are desperate for him and willing to pay up, I'm sure a trade commensurate with his new contract and standing in the game as one of the best ruckman, will be agreed upon.

Yep welcome to the world of AFL where the players have all the power

Surely something along the lines of the following makes sense:

Cameron ---- West Coast

Marshall ---- Collingwood

West Coast pick 14 (tied to Hawthorn) ---- St. Kilda

Maybe points and futures shuffled around to even it out
Basically what I think it would look like. If AFL give us priority pick compensation we probably just eat the loss here and give up pick 14. We can justify the priority picks based on us using them for experienced bodies basically that will make us more competitive now

What's Marshall's contract like?
If Collingwood are underpaying Cameron (as reported) we may not have the cap space for Marshall.
He may prefer to go to Geelong/other team chasing him?
