Will Day potential injury?

Let's hope not the last thing we need such a inspiration early!

We were so good in the first quarter.
I dare say Day blowing up (match fitness) Having a mid as the sub while Newcombe is carrying a niggle hurt us in the end.

Our midfield has been an issue all year.
When Meek gets beaten and Newk is tagged when can’t compete for 4 quarters. Day got tired after the first quarter and look what happened in the second term.
We need to move Weddle into the midfield next year. He could be a Bont/Warner type mid.
A fit Day, another preseason into Ward & CMac2.
Trade a mid in or take the best mid with Carlton’s pick. We are not far off being a contender.
Need to fix his running first or he'll keep getting injured...

We’re clearly not winning the flag this season and as Mitchell says, we are in the business of flags, not scraping into finals. Put him and Newcombe in cotton wool, give Mackenzie and Butler some time in the ones.

Load up all our assets into luring Butters as a pre-agent. Without another A-grade mid we will continue as a good but not quite good enough team.

Didn’t get a run at it and besides one fly that didn’t get paid, he looked out of it, consistently brought his man into contests instead of spreading. There’s a reason he got subbed.

It’s one of Chol or Dear getting dropped, they’re the most similar. It’s either that or four talls again.

Dear and Chol are the ones who took us a couple of games into September last year, and they did it without Gunston playing as well as he has.

But just on this game: twice in the first quarter Dear dropped marks uncharacteristically. He looked the most likely of the guys on the park. Who else took a pack mark, or even flew for one?

His field kicking and vision in transition is as good as any of the others.

I think you can probably see watching the game back, that him going off dropped out forward pressure a notch or two.

There was no change to the 3 on 1 marking attempts from our talls in the forward 50 afterwards.

I think he was subbed because he seemed to be out of petrol tickets. If he was the reason for the crowd in marking contests, surely it would have disappeared when he went off?

Ice him for the year.

Not sure why people are saying that Lewis is our monster forward.

Thilthorpe is what a monster forward looks like and was probably the difference on the night.

Lewis at his best has that kind of presence, but he's not a stand and bash bodies guy like Tilthorpe.

Different kind of tall forward. But he's super effective when he's on.

And it's traditionally taken a long time for a guy to come back from an ACL.

2nd quarter was the killer - we needed to hold under the momentum they had but allowed a 42 pt turaround .
Your not winning games from there .
So our 8 point lead at 3 qtr time was actually….not a lead at all?

Hawthorn’s Will Day has returned home with a heavy limp & moon boot on the same foot that required navicular surgery this year.
Hawks say he was stomped on earlier in the game & played on. But will clearly be nervous before he’s assessed over the next 48 hours
Really hope that's just precautionary. If not, serious questions need to be asked...

I'm a bit baffled about the use of Conor Mac. I swear I've read that he spent his junior career as an inside mid and that's what got him drafted at pick 26, yet we've rarely, if ever, used him there (I saw him at one centre bounce last night which surprised me). Can anyone who watched him in juniors shed light on this ?
Simple answer. He is a ball watcher and the times they tried him in the middle he gets left in no man’s land. Don’t worry what he did in juniors.

Cmac was running directly at goal then made the brain fart decision to kick across his body. It was crazy
CMac has mates but has regressed this season. Understand he had the bad ankle injury that cost him some time, but some time at Box Hill for someone that will really scrap and fight forward of the ball for us might be the answer.

Time to bring in Bruest
He is not the answer either sadly. Has the smarts to snag a few goals but cannot provide the pressure anymore.

Hawks need two mids - Nash and Worpel need to be upgraded and they need a high pressure small - a Puopolo type to replace CMac and help Watson.

I have never seen CMac perform in a high pressure match where Hawthorne are under pressure.

Lewis will come good,,Thilthorp has played all year with this team.
Problem is we haven’t clicked for 20 games
Yep, still waiting for a whole game click, we get quarters here and there but a 'whole game crunch the bastards and win by heaps' kinda click.

I thought Butler was being groomed for this but he went into the midfield, could he rotate thru the forward line?

You would think not navicular if he was simply stomped on but I have no clues in that area. Really hope he is okay. If any risk rest up for next year

That around the corner brain fart from him last night when he was clear 30 out was painful.

If you are running directly at the goals with momentum finish the bloody job as any forward should. If you miss like he did against the Pies that night on gather round then we move on.

You don’t leave the ground injured from being stomped earlier in the game traditionally, not much transparency there.. club might be worried

100% the club is concerned. Sam jumped down the journos throat in the presser and said “I knew you would want to know the answer but I purposely did not ask our medical team”.

Players subconsciously do that to give themselves an out/excuse if they miss. Agree it was a horrible moment. Just run straight at the sticks ffs
I’ve never understood this theory, it’s stupid. How is missing a goal an out or excuse lol. They do it because they think they can strike the ball better that way and have a smaller margin for error. I have no issue with it on angles but ones like MacDonald last night running into goal was pathetic
