I remember 2023, this happened and some people were getting concerned.
It's a 5 day turnaround, making sure Billy and co are ripe for the next 3 H&A games.
Strategy is how Fly operates, trust the plan. Remember Billy locking down a great defender in the GF? Have faith guys, Dean has had his last game IMO.
Emotions run high this time of year, Fly always has a plan, trust him.

I think we thought we may have another win on the board, either Freo or GC but we beat Hawks and Adelaide, it’s a pretty damn good result, finish with Melbourne who will be having a red hot crack at us. Cherry ripe for finals.

The older players are about 2 years older , more wear and tear on them. The question is do they have the energy in the tank to execute any game plan that fly and co devise?

Guess time will tell us if wade’s plan for conditioning, training loads and resting was right .

That starts to make a bit more sense why Fly was honest about talks. I was pretty surprised at the comments but if he's had surgery and done at Carlton then Jack might have given him the okay.

I must admit l didn't like how Fly was very open about SOS. Due to the fact we have some absolute champions of the club a little disappointed at the contracts presented to them by the club, l was squirming a bit by those comments....

Would not touch petracca with a 10 foot pole.
All our trade assets should be going towards young midfielders.

We need to replace sidebottom, pendles, long, crisp and degoey eventually.

That’s about 5 new midfielders we need to find.
Jaicos is at his best as a half back or winger dictating play using his foot, he can pinch hit through the midfield when needed. Same with mcreery.

Please don’t mention allan or HDM, one is a butcher off the highest order and the other has no instinct to hunt and win the contested ball.

The reality is that we haven't been able to develop another young and fast midfielder in the last 5 years. Lack of high end picks haven't helped

Davies from the Suns. l would be calling as a starting point.

Personally I think if we do get a first for DC using it on Petracca would only add to our problem.

I think someone like a Cam Mackenzie or Mattaes Phillipou (as an example) who is 22 and under, is who we should be after.

Obviously we would all like big fish but how would we get them after trading our 2024 and 2025 first round picks?

We might get a 1st for DC but cannot see anyone offering us more than a late second at best for Mihocek.
We aren’t looking at Petracca

Why do people continue to compare what's happening now to 23. In 23 we were so far in front on top and 3rd place with like 5 rounds remaining. This year we didn't have top 2 or even top 4 wrapped up. We went too early. Should've went flat out to beat GC and Freo then rested players against Richmond and Hawthorn off the 5 day break. We ****ed it up.

Can't blame selection committee for us coughing up a nearly-4-goal lead to Freo

When we talk about playing the minutes - we didn't play them very well at the end

Strategies aren't the same every year obviously. There's a pattern towards the end of the year that I have noticed with Fly.
It's the strategy I'm referring to, not the position on the ladder.
It's obviously a little different with the aging players this year but none the less, still a strategy.
Is it the right timing for each strategy throughout the year? We'll soon find out.
You can't change the strategy when you are 3/4 to all the way through.
Calculations would have been done awhile ago and needs to be seen through, especially with older players involved as well as the injuries that have unfolded.

Not that he suits us, but wondering if Jack Steele is on the outer at St Kilda. Starting the captain as sub is bizarre, but very much a Ross Lyon move to push someone out of the club.

Still wins the contested footy and is a tackling machine. Interesting watch

Make Josh a mid or find another gun mid asap.

Push Josh into the midfield and let Houston play the no1 role off halfback with Parker into the defensive spot.

But still need to trade in another gun midfielder. The question comes is Petracca the right age or do we look at a more 5 year plan and go younger? He’s contracted but surely at his age and Melbourne outside the window, he can be picked up for a high 2nd rounder?

Apparently his shoulder is sore.

This might be a finals strategy or GF strategy. Fly certainly knows he's a gun in that position.
Can't let the oppo's know too early what your plans are. It would be a brilliant move IMO.

I must admit l didn't like how Fly was very open about SOS. Due to the fact we have some absolute champions of the club a little disappointed at the contracts presented to them by the club, l was squirming a bit by those comments....
Are they disappointed or are the media talking that up?
Elliott will be 33 in September, Mihocek 33 in Feb next year. Both have been great players but are pretty banged up.
Elliott hasn't played more than 20 games in a year except for 2023 (average 17 a year), Mihocek played 11 games in 2024 (averages 19 a year), let's face facts, these two aren't getting younger and chances are they will be managed or rested due to the age and wear and tear. I wouldn't be offering either of them more than a year. If someone offers them two or three years, I'd let them go. You pay your players to play, not take up space in the rehab group, that's what the Kangaroos are for.
Trading in someone this year on a 4 or 5 year deal is planning for the next 5 years (obviously) Elliott and Mihocek won't be there in 2030. Checkers and Billy can try and cash in, no problem with that, but not at the expense of the next 5-10 years.
To put these two in perspective, Pendles averages 21 games a year.

Edmund has since come out & said talk of disappointment from those players is untrue.

So it's either Ralph or Edmund who has made up their stories.

Its known that Cameron and Checkers are disappointed with what they have been presented.
I think Pendles and Sidey will just sign a contract once offered to them, and same with Howe. As l think his contract is one year, then he moves into coaching at the club.
Billy gave the money gesture or pay me gesture after he kicked his goal against the Tigers. I'm not sure however who that was directed too....
