When McRae was asked about Jack, if he responded “I wouldn’t comment about that sort of stuff to the media”, is that the best way of sitting on the fence do you think? He’s not confirming, he not lying, and he’s just playing a straight bat.
Whats your thoughts?
Guessing it likely encourages the journo to keep probing? Guessing they probably knew the meeting took place.

The only quotes I have read from Voss sound the exact opposite to what you are suggesting -

Jack’s had a really important role shift this year," he said. "It’s been a real win for us to see where he’s gone from forward to back.

"I want to be really clear, he’s a very important player for us.

"We value what he’s done, we value him at the football club and we’re certainly hoping he plays out the rest of his career with us.”

I read it as Voss was critical only of McRae, not to mention pretty weird.

“Regardless of what Craig did, it’s not something we would do, and we’ll respect the privacy of the player."

I think he was referring to McRae saying he had met Silvagni, not the meeting itself. Which is a very odd thing to say, because what it means is that if Voss was asked that same question about a player meeting, he is saying he would lie to protect a player's privacy.

Reckon there would surely be zero angst in the "locker room". Players meet other clubs all the time.

But then again, Carlton's loserishness could create weird internal vibes.

It's not for me to announce something like that on behalf of someone, because they're the ones that have to walk back into the locker room.
I agree about the internal vibes at Carlton being different. They haven’t been as culturally strong as us for decades so something like this could fracture their locker room.

Could fracture our locker room too.

JSOS in means one of Howe or Frampton aren't, so if both thought they might be regulars in the 22 next year, they are being told something very different.

JSOS isn't coming to play VFL and get a call up when Howe or Billy are injured.

Certainly a good point. He is 194. Howe and McInnes’ height.

Frampton would have to sign a contract extension for that to be a real concern.

Suggesting a recruit coming in and replacing an incumbent might affect a team is crazy talk.

But the players you mention- and Reef - means if I am Jack I would be wary of coming to the Pies. I am not sure he would be guaranteed a spot every week.

Moore, Howe, Reef, Frampton & JSOS with maybe a draftee or Smit developing as a KPD.

Charlie Dean delisted.

I think that’s a decent mix. Howe will retire end of next year. Gives us a year to figure out if Reef & Frampton are up to it.

Why is it crazy? Aren't Howe and Billy uncontracted?

If we bring in JSOS, he'll play every game, like Shooter, Houston and Perryman have - they have only missed games when injured or suspended.

I'm surprised he's keen on us. Feels it's a year too early for him to choose us with Howe going around again.

Nothing from those quotes indicated anything about a “fractured relationship”. That’s fantasy
I didn’t suggest they did that was addressing other parts of your quote. My take is it’s fantasy to suggest there’s zero angst in the locker room if Voss is going out of his way to highlight the personal nature of the situation.

I hope he is. We've only had Billy, Howe and Moore available together for about 5 games this year.
I would like him back too. He seems to be a late bloomer and I reckon he’d be pretty cheap, and has some positional versatility which is handy.

I do think Silvagni has defensive versatility more in line with Maynard than our other taller defenders. He seems much more capable of defending medium and some small forwards

It means nothing for Howe. We’ve all seen our record in 2025 without Howe there’s just no way we’ll be able to ween ourselves off his importance that quickly. Given Bill is uncontracted he probably has more important things on his mind than who could replace him next year. I have concerns over the play for Silvagni, but for me the locker room stuff on our end is a wash.

Jack might not replace Howe in the defence during his first year with us. Has the versatility to play other positions.

Would recruit him out of spite, then use logic like the above to justify.

Probably a good idea, will enable us to keep Howe in the backline with one of Reef or Silvagni and inject some youth into our midfield.
He was playing there until we started to get injuries into the defence, and they kinda have just kept him there since lol But it would open up for him to return there and give us a different look in rotation in the midfield

Given Howe has been offered a contract and Frampton has never been planned to be a part of a best 22 my guess is Silvagni is Murphy/Frampton’s replacement whilst Howe’s replacement will come the year after.
