I don't think they have many/any academy kids for next year so may be happy to go into deficit, 4 kids in the top 15, zero clubs would knock back that opportunity, but the changes coming into effect will have a negligible impact on GCS getting all their academy kids.

no chance it happens in time for this year, and watch Carlton lobby like crazy against for '26, like they did last year for the Walker twins and Essendon for Kako
How does avoiding 2026 make it any fairer to these standing to benefit in 2027?

Rip the bandaid off in the first round now. You want talent, TRADE FOR IT. Give weaker clubs the right assets for losing out to an unfair system.

Wait...so it could affect the academy picks for this year? That would be a riot!
surely that is just clickbait. trades involving futures were done last year with an understanding of the new system that would be in place this year.

it's the same reason they didn't bring the changes into effect immediately last year

making changes to a new set of rules that was never actually used would be very on-brand though

Maybe instead of pick 1, they mean for the potential Oscar Adams pick 2 compo?
Hopefully it’s pick 2 compo for Oscar Allen.

If it’s pick 2 for Oscar Adams then St Kilda has stuffed up on a level never seen before (even at Moorabbin)! 😳😱🤪

You mentioned Melbourne fc as an example of overly paid players not performing up to their standard, since there upgraded payments. I assume you meant Oliver & Patracca.
I don't think Patracca is a whacko, is why l didn't mention him.
Melbourne in relation to players believing they are more important than the collective, vs say Dogs/Geelong, whose players are sacrificing for success.

Wait until we let Nas go for Jack Whitlock a 26 first and 27 second and we have to give up a third and fourth rounder.

Grain of salt type info but here it is.

Eagles and GC will be swapping picks

GC receive: picks #1 #19 and #30
WC receive: picks #8 #13 and #17
Ah yes to really drive home what a farce the draft has become lets allow a top 6 (potentially top 4 team) obtain Pick 1 + 2 other top 5-15 Gun prospects for 2nd round picks that will blow out to the 30s

You actually pointed to players underperforming since being put on larger/ longterm contracts.
I would point out, that;

1. Oliver is a fruitloop

2. Patracca was out with a serious spleen? injury.

I would be very surprised if they came in this September.

Or at least the no FS/Academy picks in the First Round.

But yes this year's first round as it stands is going to be a joke due the vast number of Academy and FS picks on top of at least two FA Compo Picks.
Hopefully it’s just fair payment for the picks. I don’t mind if it’s fair instead of essentially free.

I agree, but whatever happens in that meeting, it won't affect this year's draft in November, same as the points correction was delayed last year until after the draft. ( clubs plans blah blah blah)

In relation to 2026, Carlton F/S is touted as #1 pick atm, they lobbied hard for the delay in 2024 so they could get the twins cheaper, so I can see them doing that same again.

I will add that changes made to the drafting system have usually had a 2-year delay. I hope that ,as you suggest, it gets ripped off for 2026, but I can also see the AFL being gutless and relenting to "club planning" again.

I'm all for a total system rewrite, this dual economy has serious flaws

Looks like change is coming.

The first round of the draft is probably going to be uncompromised. Pressure is building as other clubs finally have the courage to speak up.

Not before bloody time. But let’s see what the AFL Commission actually does.

It probably means that all these top end Academy kids will be available to West Coast, North, Tigers etc. That will really change the order of the draft. Suddenly pick 7 or 8 looks pretty good.

It would also mean that future picks will become more valuable.

If it happens this year. It puts ALOT of talent back in the pool.

All of a sudden Richmond and Essendon look like massive winners.

And if it happens this year and Nas leaves. We likely finish bottom 2 next year and have Walker or Cochrane infront of us.

(Not calling for that outcome for us. Just pointing it out )

No not performance-related at all. Yes Oliver has his issues, Petracca his injury, but it's more the tail wagging the dog imo

I throw May and Pickett into that category as well

Might catch up on a bit of reading while we wait for this decision to come down 🤔

Bottom 2? Jeez people need to calm down re:Nas. He's a great player, he's not the team
