On the one hand, this is the kind of talent we should expect from a top 10 pick if our recruiters are doing their job. On the other hand though, I had resigned to it being a slow burn because taller blokes often take time to develop. Curtin was like "**** all of that, I'm a gun right now".

I don't know if we should expect ten players per season to be performing at Curtin's level.

If we had spent pick #1 on him, we'd be happy with his performance to this stage. And hell, in some sense we kind of did, given we turned down West Coast's offer.

He's Koutoufides with a bigger tank

I was going to create a thread on that. There was that period where Kouta was an unstoppable force. I’m convinced Curtin is going to have a period where he’s untouchable and the most influential player in the comp by a gap.

So what would be our pathway to getting NWM?

Assuming we can afford his salary, what do we offer to do the trade?

We wouldn’t trade any of our first pick team. Saints unlikely to accept a bunch of second tier players? Our first round pick won’t be a high one this year

We’d be selling depth players, and even a bloke like Berry, and trying to package the picks into something more enticing for Saints. Maybe one of our 3 KPDs as well.

He covers the ground insanely quickly, I saw a glimpse of it earlier this year in the Roos game at AO he was rapid in a chase down. Then when you actually see him move across the ground not many players are able to keep up with him.

Players taken in the 6-10 bracket:

2024 - Langford, Smillie, Travaglia, Lombard, Tauru
2023 - Sanders, Read, Curtin, Windsor, Caddy
2022 - Humphrey, Mackenzie, Clark, Ginbey, Phillipou

Is there a player in that group you’d rather have than Curtin?

Probably his leg length helps, big strides

Top 10 pick? Curtin's last 2 months has been top 2 pick and arguably pick 1 and as dominate with what Reid showed last year. I knew he would make it once I read a Port Power supporter saying Curtin look "another" 1st rounder bust for us lol.

I think that board is made up of teenagers mainly or people under 20. They saw Curtin play 1 bad game and were saying he was shit and a 'bust'.

Then you can go back further and you see people on there claiming Walker wasn't as good as Dixon. They are just really bias or really uneducated, probably both. At least people on here have given there midfield credit over the years (Port) to the point that I think some posters here actually overrate the players they have.

Theres probably not a player in the comp right now who I would trade for Curtin, let alone that lot.

Finn O'sullivan and Jagga Smith are going to need to be very very very good players to make our non trade with WCE a loss

I’m riding the Curtin wave into the shore. Perhaps he’s in a purple patch that won’t be replicated again for some time. Or perhaps he is a genuine generational talent. I’m holding him to see which one it is because it’s not often you even get a shot at having a generational talent in your team.

Exactly, so you’d have to say that he is well above what you would expect in a pick 8.

He should have gone higher, Clarkson was adamant he wanted him at North with pick2 but got overruled and West Coast if they had there time again would probably have taken him at 1 and not bothered with the Reid saga.

He fell into our lap essentially.

He didn’t really fall into our lap. There were 8 teams that didn’t want to take him, and not only were we the only team willing to take the risk, we moved picks around to get him.

He already is the best player in his draft year, its just amazing to me that so many clubs fell into the trap of selecting ready to play players instead of getting a 197cm midfielder running machine who can mark. Reid will become another Dusty player though when he matures. No question he was a smart get. But Curtin should have not been anywhere close to our pick.

5 out of the last 6 games he is already getting over 20 disposals a game in just his 27th game. For a bloke who is 197cm and green, to do what he is doing already should scare the competition.

Disagree. Harley Reid has performed better to date.

I'd put Curtain second, but that's no real shame in that, considering half the teams in Melbourne are trying to coax Reid out of West Coast.

Even then, we don't care because we have Dan Curtin.

There seasons have been about on par imo. Curtins last 6 weeks have been as good as if not better than what Reid has done this year. They've both had the same number of games this year where they had 20 possessions or more. Given Reid spends nearly all of his time in midfield, thats actually not that impressive.
