A centralised thread to discuss any changes at the club in the 2025 offseason.

Hoping this leaves the McQualter thread free to discuss the coach, game plan growth that we’ve seen etc, rather than assistant coach and footy dept chat.

Starting with:

TBF there are several assistants that could make way better alternatives.
G Bell basically got moved aside when Woosha was appointed and pending contract status he would be close to no 1 out the door.
L Webster pending contract would be next.
J Brennan would follow also.
If we have had to bring in people like Hurn & H Taylor last year to help with development and other skills I think we could easily get rid of those 3 and Mini could identify his most desired assistant and he could be targeted, which they probably already are.
Up the pay structure for the better assistants and Mat Inness, job done.
There will be some fall out at Melbourne and Mini will know who is worth chasing?
Bassett/Chaplin?
How did we end up with such a bunch of uninspiring people as those 3. Were they cheap or was it a case of jobs for the boys ? Any Nisbett era appointments should be given the arse.
How ridiculous is it that our defensive coach is someone who played about 33 games at the Dockers mostly in their forward line and before that he was our forward line coach trying to teach Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling who had nearly 9 times each more experience than him in how to play their positions.

Who was the better coach - Clarkson or Voss?

Credit where credit is due, we've had a decent forward line while Webster was in charge and our defense has probably been our strongest line over the last two years despite the scoreboard.

Good to see we are moving early to make off-field assistant coach changes.
God knows we need to get some fresh ideas for all thirds of the ground.

Backline - Kick long to a contest.
Mids - Tap it to the oppo
Fwds - Stand and put your hands up, no need to lead.

Wonder what happened with the Cotch and Mini meeting in Perth that someone here reported a few weeks ago.
We're bringing him as a hair consultant to bring Duggan's mullet back

The changes were bound to happen, McQualter was signed after the whole flurry of assistant coaching signings were made so he didn't have much of a chance to bring his guys in, plus you keep some of the former regime around to get more an insight on the current playing group.

Now that the first years over and done with and has had a look at the players he can start moving guys on. Hope Brennan's next. A development coach who's had like two probable players develop under him his entire time employed.

i dont see any benfit in shuey staying as an assistant coach, tbh its the same with hurn. go to another club to get varied experience.
Agreed. As much as Shuey and Hurn are club legends, player development and stoppage/ midfield tactics have been decidedly poor over the last few years, leading me to believe that their greatness as players isnt translating over to greatness as coaches.

Both should be politely told to seek opportunities elsewhere to develop into their roles further, and be replaced with proven and experienced candidates who can throw a critical eye over these areas and suggest improvement/ different ways or working.

workplaces generally don't encourage their employees to go and work for competitors for 'the experience'
Clarkson did with Mitchell, but he was probably trying to get rid of him haha.

We need to overspend on the soft cap and get in a full time head of development of notable experience.

For me I would love Stewart dew.
The cap is going up this year and Simmo's payout should be ending, so we'll have lots of cash to splash around.
