I think we should have run SDK through the ruck more this year. I mean he towelled up Luke Jackson this season. I also think it would have helped his defence play too. I don’t think he is enjoying his football at the moment.
Need to try something. He’s treading water at the moment.
If Kolo was fit he wouldn’t be in the team.

I agree. He didn't get a lot of it, but several times he went HARD. A whole lot harder than a couple of his teammates, that's for sure.
He is as courageous as hell but he's small and doesn't have an attribute that stands out at AFL level.
I'm worried about him to be honest
I thought Knevitt was quite good tonight, was vary efficient and took some nice grabs.
We need to get Stengles goal kicking sorted out before finals, he is missing so many easy shots.
We have a few that are just a bit off at the moment compared to to their best - Tyson is one as is Lawson, MOC and SDK.
The ability is there just need a bounce back in form.
And SDK needs more core strength, pair him with Neale in the weights room this preseason

Was at the game and thought old Goldy gave Stanley a bath around the ground, just checked the stats and was confirmed. Might be a week off for him against the Swans i reckon.
Yeah I thought for an ageing whipping boy, Stanley has actually had a pretty good year....until the last month or so. Started on fire against Briggs, then got absolutely smashed.
Blitz has looked our best ruck, and we've all been here before.
Hopefully Stanley can pull his finger out come finals because there's a similar narrative brewing. After all these years, we still look the best version of ourselves when Stanley is firing (or at least not getting smashed).

Lots of discussion around Clark. A couple of things I might add...

* I don't think anyone here is questioning his attitude. Gives 100% whenever he plays. Very Atkins-like in that regard.

* It sometimes feels he's trying to brute force his way into possession. He's often tackling, scrapping, and in the thick of the action, but it's jut not coming off for him. Could be lack of size or not quite clean enough yet, and it's handy to have someone doing this, but he needs to be more involved in the "right" way

* Following on that second point, I'm not sure how often this happens, but I'm not sure about his positioning. Watching the Brisbane game up here earlier in the year, he seemed to get caught out defensively a few times. Now that could just have been one bad game, but I wonder if positioning his part of his problem in terms of getting involved in possession chains?

* He's got the skills and awareness, but not the consistency. The kick to Smith in the corridor was nice but in past games he's torched team-mates with a loopy handball or kick that falls short.

Certainly not ready to give up on him just yet, but I think he needs to do more than put on a few kg in the off-season.

On the other hand, I thought Knevitt had a much better game, even if it was an "almost" one by most standards. You can clearly see the role they want him to play - up and down the field as a marking wing option in defence and attack. Took 6 marks and had 17 disposals and wasn't too bad (at least, not when compared to last week's VFL game - I only saw one quarter but man, he butchered some of the ball he got).

Right now, I'm a little more bullish on Knevitt than I am Clark. I know Knev has the extra year and the height makes a difference, but both deserve another year at least to show what they can develop into.

We have to keep persevering with knevitt, he just covers so much ground, and he is a great bail out target. I think his next step is to work on his long kicking, needs to get a bit more distance and more penetration. Just not this year.

Clark has a nice way of looking great when not getting close to winning the ball. He is so far off it.

Not too fused with how we played, 5 day break against shit opposition. Almost wish they subbed Cameron off at half time just to put this 100 goal thing to bed. It is arbratary, can't we just pretend that we use a base 9 counting system, that we have goes up for his 100th goal next week and celebrate that.

He looks like he hates playing key defence. His body language isn’t great.

This was a super frustrating game to watch.. Our system really broke down most of the night, then the few times it really worked, and we took it the length of the ground, we then invented an additional handball when it wasn't needed.
A lot of down players tonight.
Stengle started well (although kicked like shit) and faded quickly. Same with Neale.
Humphries was really quiet.
Stanley was off.
Stewart did some nice things and then had some major brain farts.
Smith and Holmes got plenty of it, but without their usual damage. Holmes pinged 3 times..
Dempsey, has had a very quiet month.. needs a lift.
Clark has had too many chances now and it just appears that he's not upto it. Great in the VFL, but just cant handle the step up.

Knevitt had a.couple of almost moments, so close.

Clark did some good things. Still not to get a tunnelling free after bravely going for a mark.

Hope Henry is ok.
Yeah I was going to say that I thought Knevitt's was an "almost" game. Almost took a couple of really good marks. Almost kicked a nice goal (hit the post). Almost got a good amount of the pill. Almost.

Not sure if that's enough to keep him on the list though. He's been around a while now and I think clearly has something to work with, but unfortunately for him he just seems unable to put it together.

Clark is an interesting one. His kamikaze attack on the ball is breathtaking at times, but I also see the issue with his low possession count, inconsistent ball use and lack of standout traits.

That said, he does strike me as a type who could literally will himself to a quality 200 game career despite his lack of obvious weapons.

I suspect Tom Atkins probably looked even less likely than Clark at the same age, but with some maturity and experience he's found a way to become one of the first picked in a very good team despite a similar lack of "standout traits". I think Clark could get to the same place, maybe even better than Atkins, given the opportunity. The question might be whether we're willing to keep him around until he gets there (remembering that Atkins wasn't even drafted until he was a couple of years older than Clark is now, so had already been through this phase).

F50 is too narrow and easy to defend for our long bombs forward. There's no space and it doesn't suit our assets.
This.

I think with Smith joining Holmes in the middle and the continued development of our overall running power (Dempsey, Mannagh, Neale replacing Hawkins, etc, etc), we now have a gameplan and style that is more suited to wide open space than the narrow ground at home. Good for our prospects on the MCG in September, even if it means our home ground advantage ain't what it used to be.
