It’s taken 18 years but Mitch Duncan’s games tally for the Eagles next year may mean he plays more eagles games than Gerrick Weedon…
I reckon you’ve posted about Weedon over Duncan about 20-30 times over the journey. Always good for a laugh

It was last year where it felt like we clicked a switch over to a loser mentality when our recruiting team seemed genuinely excited to get owies, by including him as part of a trade for pick 3 with an honest trier. We basically just accepted we can't attract good players and have been aiming for people on the bottom half of other lists.
We arent North where we are giving up the equivalent of Pick 2 for Caleb Daniel. If Mitch Duncan comes across as player-coach, it would be for very little.. Think Jack Darling trade.

Wouldnt mind him here at all as part of the coaching staff and occasional sub.

Really we are thinking of going after a 34 year Mitch Duncan? is this how dumb our list management has become? his numbers this season aren't even that good.
Even worse is he is a outside receiver type when what we need is a physical inside mid to help protect the younger ball winners.

We need a Toyota Hilux and getting a Kia Cerato cos its cheaper basically and then trying to take it bush bashing. Get the fricken Hilux

I hope we don't become too fixated about bringing in senior mids to support Reid.
We sort of have to though, because we dont have any who can teach the younger mids their craft (Yeo is functionally dead and Kelly isnt a leader's arseh*le).

Think what we'll do is use Pick 1 on the best available mid in the draft (hopefully Sharp) and shop Pick 2 around for that experienced mid we need to find.

Duncan is just looking for an expenses paid relocation home.

Clearly he thinks he'd like to end up back in WA so why not jump over to the local spud club for a season and have them pay and organise everything for you and your family.

Stick around for a couple years after as a "coach" and you're sorted.

He's so far off being a solid contributor at AFL level though i reckon this is a bad idea. Add in how injury prone he's been and it just looks silly IMO.
Duncan and his family are very setup in Vic so I doubt the pull ‘home’ is teh driving factor.

Yeah, i fear they will go overboard chasing list cloggers aswell.

I think they are probably a bit worried in the eagles hierarchy right now and feel they need to do something to protect McQualter. Not that anybody is blaming him for anything at this point. But i know i feel about as low as i have felt about things regarding the club right now and you can see from this Board that that feeling is being felt by most of us. We are sick of losing every week and it is hard to be motivated to watch the whole game sometimes.

I am sure they are projecting forward and thinking about how the supporter base will feel 12 months from now after we have another likely bottom 4 finish. At some point people will stop buying memberships. So i fear they will overreact and buy a load of mature age junk at the trade table this year.

People are thinking way too much about Duncans potential impact on-field.

He might not even play a game for us if he came over, I wouldnt expect him to play more than a couple.
He'd be recruited as more of an extra assistant coach

Would be a good get, especially if we get an extra list spot or two
This is someone talking sense. I reckon its just a way to game the soft cap...you get Mitch over as an assistant or development coach who by all accounts is a quality individual. He probably plays WAFL for 90% of his first year (or not at all), retires and goes full time into coaching.

I would look at it more as a smart bit of business, rather than the Eagles desperately looking to plug gaps on field with a mid-30s player.

It really is going to require extra list spots.

I can see us taking 3 high end draftees, 3 FS/NGA and 3 trade targets.

That's nine list spots.

Well in fairness to Goroyals22 the selection of Golden Showers before Duncan was a real head scratcher - a massive WTF pick.

In fact, I remember throwing the TV remote across the room accompanied by multiple very loud profanities echoing through the house, when the pick was announced.

Wasn't the worst example of me losing my shit on Draft Day that went to 1997 National Draft Day, when after taking Jaxon Crabb, Callum Chambers and then Rowan Jones with picks 12, 13 and 28.

Then at pick 34 I was screaming out this players name ( name coming ) and then we called out Andrew Williams - not happy.

Then three picks latter at 37 I was thinking time for redemption ( I was yelling his name out once more ) and then we called out Todd Holmes .

I was distraught when the player that who's name I had been screaming out then went with pick 43 .

Adam Goodes.

We took David Antonowitz wt the next pick 44.

Let's just say that Mrs Monocle was not at all happy with the carry on.
I was called infantile and in the dog house for a few days ... and yes I did have to replace the damaged coffee table.

Ouch 372 games of reminder pain. That must have hurt.

Fact is we have no idea what the plans for the list are in the off-season, and what is actually achievable

Maybe we have a couple of guys we dont know about being traded as well as the mass delistings we expect.
Maybe we dont take 3 high end draftees, maybe we dont have 3 nga/fs, etc
