It makes zero sense for West Coast to go after Cameron. 31 next year, he will be well and truly retired by the time they are playing finals. They lose their captain and probably Harley restarts their crap rebuild again.

If the AFL give them end of 1st rd assistance pick it’s going to be late 20’s with all the academy and F/S picks.

The other pick they have is 12 which will become around 18/19. That’s prob too much for a 31yr old ruck and we’d think pick 28 isn’t enough for an almost All Aus ruckman.

With McGuane being a 1st do we ask for an Eagles 3rd rd pick this year and their 2026 2nd rd pick. After he is drafted use that pick to trade back into this years draft.
McGuane is not a first round selection. Might not even be bid on in the second round.

I'm not against their next years first pick this year. I'm just saying that you don't offload him for unders this year. If he wants to go this year, he can go on our terms. He's contracted and it's better for us to keep him for next year whilst we have another crack at a flag. After next year we'll be on a bit of a rebuild anyway
I think we've done the right thing to not lock anyone in yet.

The danger has always been that we're too old and slow in the midfield. That's unlikely to be addressed for next year now that Rowell has re-signed.

Next year might be a bit of a re-build where we try to turn a few of our kids into senior players. And then if we do have two firsts as a result of Cameron leaving try to bring in a top line mid for 2027.

Either way. Hopefully we can right the ship and go well for the rest of the season and think about the future then.

I thought 7 makes you restricted and 8 unrestricted. Who knows
Nah it's 8 for both. Unrestricted depends on the size of your salary. If Cameron isn't re-signed he'll be unrestricted, as he's not one of our high earners and at his age won't be top band for compensation. If he's planning on going end of contract - now would be better. I think it's a definite possibility that we let him go.

I'm at a stage where if they want to leave then goodbye.
The way it always should be. If you have to convince players to play for the pies then they are not the right cultural fit. If they need to leave for family, then wish them well and get a decent trade. Don't pay overs for rucks or fringe positions ever. Buy low and sell high should always be our aim. Remember paying overs to good ordinary types like Phillips and stephenson and it's a recipe for disaster.

This is what I don't understand, they can cry too poor to give some players a bit more but then splash a mil or so on bringing in someone else.View attachment 2391418
I don’t think the club has cried poor at any point. They’re not doing anything wrong by trying to responsibly manage the cap in regards to our older players

I still think Cameron will get his contract extension.
I suspect we want to hold off decisions until the end of the year when we decide whether we're going to go all in for 2026 or keep some cap space and maybe draft picks to attack the end of 2026 trade period.

Agree Pexxy - A lot of straw manning of the club to make points

Fuelled in part by the grifting of Johnny Ralph

Well you have to be in the top 25% of contract earnings in the club. I think he would at least be in the top 25%, but he wants to be in the top 5 to 8%

I don't think he would be in the top 25%. The whole point of the extension talks being a year early is that his contract is low and he wants an immediate pay rise. It was only last year that he really jumped a level. And he extended at the very beginning of last year. There's talk that his new contract will be double what he's currently on.

Mitch Cleary said a few weeks ago that Cameron is on 6 to 7 hundred thousand a year. He got the rise when he signed his last contract. I can't see him signing for 350k 2 years ago. We just need to keep him somehow

He added one year at the very beginning 2024. He wasn't highly rated coming out of 2023.

Most of Nick, Josh, Houston, JDG, Perryman, Moore, Crisp, Maynard, Hill, Elliott, Checkers, IQ, McStay probably would be on more than his current 2026 contract - then add in Silvagni. If there's 11 above him in salary, he'd be unrestricted.

The unrestricted part is what it is. If he signed a one year extension it would be at the same rate. I just can't see him signing with us on such a low salary. He was still a very good ruckman in 23 and 24, a good manager would have got a better contract back then. I believe Cleary, 6 to 700k would have been very reasonable at the time.

This was the year for all in for the flag. Doubt they will say that again.

He's been outstanding the last 2 years, but that's post contract extension. End of 23 he was seen as borderline.

I haven't given up on it this year Grannie. I think we'll re-group and frankly if we win it or get really close you'd go around again. But if our midfield pace gets exploited with no real solution for 2026, you'd need to be looking to reset - which will take salary cap, as I doubt we'll target the draft.
