Interesting that both Thilthorpe and Ginbey got votes. Presumably not from the same coach!

So that means one coach (probably Nicks) gave their final two votes to Thilthorpe/Keane, while the other gave them to McCarthy/Ginbey.

Pretty hard to argue about the top 3.

I thought Ginbey did well.

He did great. But he also played most of the match on Thilthorpe who got two coaches votes. Can you really give votes to a defender who played primarily on someone you think was the 4th best on ground?

but honestly when you watch that game aside from Dawson, Kelly and Rankine for 1.5 quarters, no one really put their hand up for coaches votes. Thilthorpe for a quarter, Ginbey perhaps played more of a consistent match but he was clearly off his feet by the last quarter and faded. Its really one of those rare matches that aside from 3 players it was really a raffle amongst another 20 players.

Fair argument. For me, I would have put Ginbey in and left Thilthorpe out, which I suspect is what McQualter did.

Yeah he held him well, shame TT’s last name is not Darcy, would have had 6 free kicks in the first half.

The umpiring for affirmation by the Umpires was noticeable but i never mentioned it because it wasnt costing us the game. However there were definitely some hypocrissy and inconsistencies at what met the criteria for some free kicks.

it would not have been unfair to have more WCE players than Crows make up the votes. I think they were the better side all day, we just escaped due to class and experience. Another 12 months into those WCE players, we lost that match by 20.

Its happened before & will happen again where opposing players get votes.

Both played well.

I think if you were going to name the best 22 from yesterday it would be majority West Coast players. However, the Crows did have the clear best two players on the ground in Dawson and Rankine.

I guess you can. Gibney started really well. We just gave Rankine votes for half a game!

Must have looked at the stats only.
Laird gt a lot of it but was utter trash. His panic kicks in the back half were unforgivable for someone with his experience levels. ROB was ordinary as well. Soligo's defensive efforts were also pretty poor.
I thought that Laird got a lot of the ball but didn't seem to do much with it. Often the case, imo.
Yes, several panicked hack-kicks and a return to kicking over-the-shoulder highballs without composure.

Then in here posters were saying Laird was 'very good" and the AFC had him as our best.
I was :drunk: .

I hope not, because we'll get exposed in finals. Just because a structure works with certain players, doesn't mean it will work with others.

And yesterday was the perfect time to try something different and give a kid a game.

Round 22 when you have a bulletproof profile is the absolute worst time to try something different. You are committed to the path you are on and staying as hot as possible. Trying something different is for when your profile is flagging.

We do not have anyone on our list capable of being a mid-sized tall that we want to be using in the role (Brayden Cook is probably the best option and he should have been delisted a year ago; Dawson and Curtin are better off elsewhere), and going small is a dumb idea as all it means is Thilthorpe (one of our main match winners) is going to be double-teamed. That's also ignores the facr that our small forward depth also sucks. The next man in is Lachie Murphy and Pedlar has barely fired a shot outside of last week.

There are no lessons from the West Coast game, outside of we have enough match winners to escape an ambush. Beyond that, we played that one like we didn't want to be there which means there is nothing that can be said about structure.

To be fair to McQualter that's the best his side has played all year, played better yesterday than the one game they did win. I totally understand why he wanted to reward some of his players with coaches votes.

Not necessarily. Maybe we will be 12 months better too.

I laughed at that too.

It kinda makes sense though. Ginbeys job on him kept them in the game. Then Filthys efforts in the last quarter helped win the game for us.

I thought Laird played of his better games of the season ....but if you want to deduct points for hack kicks, then you need to include Worrell ....who also has a penchant for those kicks

They're not all that bad the high kicks .....it does give players time to get to the fall of the ball .....that said no-one can defend that kick Laird centred for an oppo goal ....indefensible
