Hodgey states that he wants the FS rule to stay and the decision will come down to where Cooper wants to go and I'm all for FS rule staying but not if it means kids that are FS eligible can also be eligible for these academies.

I was all for keeping the FS rule but based on these figures get rid of it, our players are not studs
It seems there was way too much 'partying' from our 80s premiership hero's. Should've been giving them all Spanish fly in the offseason 😂

I'm surprised ours is that high, remembering that Langford, Hudson and Dear weren't F/S and McCabe hasn't played yet.

Finn Maginness 58, Steven Greene 42, Travis Tuck 20, Josh Kennedy 13 that's only 133. I don't think we've had any other Father Son selections.

Should scrap it (and academies) and bring in live trading after a player is drafted. If you really want the player, pay up.
I think for father son there needs to be a way to have some dibs on that player and not be caught out by another club being unreasonable. But you absolutely should pay fair price, and you cannot overlook them, even if they are pick 15 talent if you overlook them at pick 1 you lose your dibs on that player.

The purpose of the rule should be that you have the opportunity to get the player and they cant be snatched up before your pick. So when that pick comes your immediate next pick is used + others to make the points. No discount, and you aren't allowed to trade out your first pick for a future pick and use later picks. you aren't allowed to downgrade your pick, or trade in above the likely bid.

e.g you cannot trade pick 15 and F1 for pick 6 and 25 and then expect to match a bid on pick 10 with 25 and 35. You need to be expected to use the pick 6 you traded in or keep your original pick 15.

That way everyone moves up a bit when your picks disappear in the matching.

Think they have definitely included Dear then who would have been on 22 games when the article was likely written.

Also not a father son selection.
Dear was nominated by Hawthorn for Father-Son selection before the draft and was taken in that same draft, so he is a Father-Son selection.

Don't believe me, do some Google searches and you'll find AFL.com articles which confirm the nomination and constantly refer to him as being a Father-Son selection in follow up articles.

Yes but he wasn't bid on, so we selected him with a pick we already had. So if the Father Son rule didn't exist or he wasn't nominated, he still would have been a Hawthorn player.

Different to McCabe who we matched a bid to get and wasn't drafted by our draft pick.

When discussing the rule and who has benefited from it, it's disingenuous to include Dear as the rule didn't assist us in obtaining him, we just selected him. If we had extra list spots we could have drafted someone else and then matched a bid for him, but we didn't we drafted him, with the pick we had just like we drafted Nick Watson.

Yes, but we did nominate him and hence held the option to draft him, it just turned out we didn’t need to exercise the option. Maybe because we had the option no other club decided to bid on him?

Your splitting hairs. Whether he was bid or not is irrelvant.

Your original assertion was that he wasn't a Father-Son selection when he clearly was.

He was nominated as a Father-Son by Hawthorn before the draft and he was selected by Hawthorn in that same draft. Under the current AFL rules he is considered to be a Father-Son draftee therefore he's included in the stat.

Given the whole backstory of his father and his tragic passing do you honestly think any other club would have placed a bid on him???

If you are registered as a father/son and taken by that club - you are definitely a father son selection regardless on whether or not anyone bids on you. No one bid on Gaz Yablett jnr - he was FS pick 40 so does that mean that he isn't a legit father son?
