First Crack reviewed the sub impact from the top 9 teams, we are ranked 15th in the comp and second worst, Bulldogs 17th.

They talked up impact of the sub in some of last years finals.

Our ranking is pretty damming given we’ve had the sub come on pretty early and on Jones especially.

Went on to say the sub that’s had the most impact this year and had an impact has been the inside 50.

Dare I say it, Matt Crouch? We know he’s a ball magnet, he struggles with keeping up with the other mids but he will be fresh when others are knackered.

Given none of the subs we’ve played have had a an impact, if not him, who else? I’d also go Draper but play him in the middle when he comes on. It’s clear we need a different approach.

Wouldn’t be against that. Just think we need to be smarter about it than “23rd” man on our list, need to be strategic. Someone who can rack up possessions and impact. Jones clearly isn’t that.

I look at it from the point of "what happens if we get an injury 2 mins in?" You want a person who can slot into multiple roles if needed. Plus, from what I saw last year, kid has a good head on his shoulders and isn't fazed at this level. Hde just seems to be one of those guys who stands up when he gets his shot, then Nicks starts the next year not even remembering he is on the list, yet he remembers Murphy.

We can't be using the same sub for 5 weeks as they lose match conditioning.

For the 1st final I would be looking to use Rachele as sub.

Then someone like Nankervis or Dowling.

I feel like Berry has been our best sub, though has probably cemented a starting position. Jones should really be pretty good at it, so it’s frustrating he hasn’t locked down the role.

Wouldn’t mind Draper getting it but really I think it’s just going to be the 23rd guy selected. For this week should probably be Dowling.

Some peanut actually voted for Crouch.

I think Smith is probably our best choice.

I thought he really impacted the two games he was a sub, particularly the Brisbane game.

My #2 choice would be Berry and then Crouch.

Jones needs to just play 3 games next year and then never play again for the Crows.

You mean the game where he had 1 uncontested possession for 1 handball and 7 kick outs? That’s impacting a quarter of football?

Interesting question.

Do you want someone who you can plug and play in any area of the field. Jones probably stuffed his audition up on the weekend, and Dowling might be about to get his shot at it. Nankervis might yet get another chance.

Do you go with X factor, bringing on a Cook/Draper later in a game to expose opposition with leg speed. Pedlar is probably in this group as well, sans the legspeed.

Or do you go with the older heads in Smith or Crouch ??

Id think Dowling and Crouch are the ones for me.

Given Nank has now had some work up forward, he has the versatility to come on and slot in anywhere. He was drafted essentially as a utility anyway, not afraid to take the game on etc.

Dowling is good wing/fwd. Given Cumming is right at home in the defensive end, it seems a simple sub on and Cumming slides back.

Draper has speed and guts, would be a definite impact sub if the midfield is seeming too 1 paced.

Pedlar not a bad shout, not getting enough of it to be an impact player, but not bad as a wildcard to throw into a few CBAs as he has a very high % gaining centre clearance. Also looks likely around goals if he can actually locate the ball.

Smith doesn't offer much defensively and less offensively than the past.

Jones, gone.

Cook, too little too late. Not offering enough.

Crouch, no versatility. Unless it is specifically Peatling/Berry who need to be removed. Even then will stuff up rotations due to his low TOG due to said lack of versatility.

Murphy, excellent sub option if someone in Crowmania goes down with RSI from scanning polos.
