Essendon are completely rebuilding. They need to get stuck into the draft.

Trading a 1st RDP (linked to Melbourne) for Windhager is a massive price to pay.
Who knows mate.

But this hypothetical sure beats talking about Nas and Windys contract or Marshall or Steele for another few hours/day

Fair, I am just big on Windy being a 200+ game player for the club. His versatility, leadership and improvement tells me has everything to be good for a long time. You might get someone better with the pick or just as good or you might get someone who doesn't make it. We probably wouldn't find out for another 3 years.
100%.

It’s all a gamble and I said as much above.

You’ll either be seduced by what pick 10 could be or you back in that what windy is is what he is and your happy for another 200 games of that.

Would have liked to see our captain and vice captain insist on speaking at the press conference to stick a flag in the ground. A strong leader like Max Gawn is definitely fronting the media in circumstances like this. Instead it’s been left to Hugh Boxshall to give a players view on the matter.
Max was rather impressed with Ross on the radio this morning

The team needs to be looked at holistically.

All that sounds great for Windy - we had it with Steele -- no flags.

The biggest glaring issue with our list is a lack of a CHB - Caminiti is NOT the answer. They don't grow on trees but it is what we need.

Secondly, we were missing what every premiership team has had - a true Elite A+ mid. We didnt have one until Nas moved in there. So, if we lose him - we need to find that. I dont give a stuff if its NAS, Dawson or the reincarnation of jesus christ himself - that is the player type we need. I have always felt windy had the body size attibutes for it, but he isnt the answer. Owens at a stretch but isn't fluid/clean enough with the footy, can not execute at fast pace so he isnt the answer. Pou has the physical attibutes to a degree, but shown nowehre near enough. So lose Nas, replace the type. Simple.

TDK is brining in talent for talents sake - I rate him but he isnt the answer. He is a direct replacement and improvement on Marshall (age a big factor), so one in one out + a draft pick for marshall = win.

Loyalty can get in the bin. I don't care who the player is. As the game is taken over by the current cro of early 20s, they will burn each and eveyr club at a moments notice. Generation xyz whatever it is self focussed. Do what needs to be done to keep improving the list and not get caught up on potential.

Just dipped into the Wanganeen-Milera thread on the PA board, and I almost laughed my socks off from a suggested trade, which was then argued to be PA paying overs.

Georgiades for pick 1, Reid for Saints 1st round pick + future first round pick, then Nas for pick 1.

WCE gain Georgiades + 2 first round picks, Port gain Wanganeen-Milera, Saints gain Pick 1 and Reid.

"PA are being ripped off here." Nas > Georgiades would be everyone other than PA fans' opinion? WCE lose out here in my opinion, and would probably need a Collard sweetener.
You’d probably take that

Not if they can’t get a deal done.
So nas’ contract expires October 31st. Trade period ends on the 15th. So if a trade can’t be struck nas has two weeks to decide if he wants to resign with us or play at west coast

It’s the type of gamble that if it backfires you lose a big part of the culture you are building at the club but if it comes off you’re looking at a significant upgrade.
Yehhhh, its a bit of a mystery box to me. We could have whats in the box or we could keep Windy, whats in the box might even wind up being windy...

I think Gringo has made the point alot that you have to keep core groups in the mid band age bracket that Windy is a part of. Now maybe we get something better than Windy but we know what we have with Windy and can build around it.

Its a Nas thing, if hes gone then keep Windy and make him the key focus of yet another rebuild. If Nas stays then i suppose you can gamble it.

Id still rather keep him.

Yes to both points.

However, it does seem a bit weird that in the guise of doing everything possible to keep Nas happily living in our foreign state, we are contemplating bringing in Tex Wanganeen while simultaneously risking NWM’s bestest mate walking to another club.

Surely our preference is to re-sign Marcus. If not, make it make sense.
I think a bit leads into Stavs below.
What if we are trying but he doesn’t want to because of the money?

Like, negotiations go both ways.

If you buy a house or car you’ll only spend what you think it’s worth and that might be less than what I do. Irrespective of if buying it helps you with another goal, you won’t be totally wreckless in your decision making.
I back the club and admin to get the right outcome and i cant imagine were ****ing around with Windy and Nas and co. Windy would be smart to wait anyway, if Nas goes he can absolutely claim a bigger chunk, if Nas stays i supect hell take a lower offer.

Its player management 101 really.

It also seems our board does not have a monopoly on drivel ;)

Surely they still have buyers remorse from the last one they drove off our lot.
It’s one of the advantages of being a smaller club. Teams like Bombers and Carlton want final asap, so if they think Windy helps them achieve that they’ll pay for that chance as opposed to taking an 18 year old and waiting 3 or 4 years for them to come good.
Worked out well for them with McKay and Gresham. Is Dodo still involved there?

I’d do it if NWM decides to go back to SA.

Load up totally on the draft. Let Dalrymple get to work. We’d have a draft hand close to Richmond’s last year with all of the draft picks coming in.

But if Nasiah re-signs with Saints then I wouldn’t do it. Keep the band together. Culture is also important.

I actually feel for NAS if he is at Port next year.
I don't think there would be more pressure on one player that has been traded since probably Chris Judd and this is to a 2 team state there media are absolute vultures that will turn on you the first second they can.
I wouldn’t be sorry for him. Bugger him.

He will have made his bed. Let him sleep in it. He will have deserved the consequences.

Honestly it looks fairly even to me.

Port get the best player in that group, we get the next best (based on potential) so we get a pick. West Coast get the third best so two extra picks.

If anyone gets ripped off its the eagles really (and thats not a massive rip off).

Not if they can’t get a deal done.
Say port offered Naz $2.2 and we pulled up at $2 but a deal couldn’t be done with trades so Naz had to stay at Saints.
What would he be paid?
