Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

It’s not posted in a FACTS thread JaB.

I receive PM’s regularly & don’t post all publicly.
That was my point Aph - you have no responsiblity fo ranythign and tbf - teh person who posted it to you i sonly posting 'something' from 'someone' ...at best. and no criticism of any party is implied.

The rumour just reinforces the GW interview with GW (Gerard Whately) .

Wright said they put an offer in front of Jack about round 13 . Wright also said he’s very strong that free agents should exercise their rights to test the market.

Not a massive difference between those statements and the club not fussed if he stays or goes.

Just depends how many ears have heard the whisper.

The rumour is that we are pushing him out the door. His actions suggest we might be pushing him out the door.

The average salary for an AFL player is $492, 592 in 2025, so probably over $500k in 2026.

I doubt Jack has been on any decent contracts in his career so this is the last one and he finally found his position and value. The fact that other teams are happy to make a play for him says something.

Is TDK worth the $1m plus we offered him?

Curnow is a $1m plus player averaging 14.9 games per season. Harry the same averaging 13.8 games per season.

I'm not saying JSOS should be earning anywhere near that, but geez he has been a good team player doing the shit jobs to earn a spot.

Besides, pushing isn’t always about salary. It could also be about the communication you receive. Where is the love? He's not leaving for much more money, but it seems love and respect is high on his list of expectations.

I genuinely think Jack is an average AFL player and really shouldnt be expecting more than an average AFL salary. 500k? I mean thats 5x the average salary in Australia. For kicking and punching a football.

The club wrote the book on how to push a player out last year with Owies.

Don't offer a new contract until right at the end of the season and then not have that offer be anything more than a token one

Had they done this with Jack they would have been entitled to do so based purely on the ACL last year followed by the multiple injuries this year.and sent the message to him that "we wanted to see how you held up over a full year first" type mentality

You don't engage in renewal contracts around our bye - which has been part and parcel of the club for years now - and then have the incumbant CEO reach out to him if you're happy cor him to go

There's a massive difference between being happy to allow someone to explore their own free agency - which Wright has said - and pushing them out the door.

However, fair play to whoever sent the rumour in. There's some good bit of truth mixed in (entitlement) to make it plausible but there's a tad too much reach to fill holes that aren't there

Good on Aph for posting the rumour though. It's a rumour thread and a discussion thread and it's generated feedback 👍♥️

If we lose Jack but get a dependable type like Butts while we wait for HOF and Dean to come through I won't be too upset.

If we lose Jack and are once again left with Young and McGovern + some PSS player like Durdin again I will not be impressed.
I don't reckon Ethan Phillips is a good idea, not quick enough for AFL.

But who is his competition? Young? He's dropped the first opportunity to bring someone, almost anyone else in?
We don't necessarily need speed there, we need a key pillar who can wrestle/outmark the Op's best Tall Fwd.
Cant hurt to give him a go (subject to LTI)

It may well be that the CEO decided some time ago - that his best job would be to help find a successor capable of being there for the long haul - and work from there.

I don’t know the inner workings of the club, but I reckon you’re pretty close to the mark here. My gut says Cook looked at the job ahead and realised there was too much to fix in the time he had left.

So instead of ripping things apart straight away, he let the first couple of years play out compiling what he thought the issues were. We still had some good times on the field — a prelim and two finals runs, one successful the other falling agonisingly short— while he worked quietly in the background.

His first priority seemed to be finding the right person to take over. Once he settled on Wright, that box was ticked.

From there it was about getting Wright involved early. Continuing to figure out what’s wrong. Put it in writing. Talk it through, teach, mentor, and collaborate so Wright would be ready to go from day one.

This year the wheels have fallen off — maybe not a huge surprise, even with Cook talking up top-four chances. The upside is it actually helps Wright. He can now make the changes that need to be made without people saying, “Why are you messing with the best run we’ve had in 30 years?”

When we look back, I think Cook will be seen as the one who got the ball rolling for Wright.

Well, they sold their extremely modest family home last year.....asking price was a miserly $8m.

You gotta feel a bit sorry for the Silvagni's, just a battling working class family struggling to make ends meet

I wouldn’t be facetious about it - imagine the gardening fees!

Silvagni’s body is getting worse, and he cannot stay fit for more than 2/3 of the season.

Comfortable with the club’s position to stay or go just make up his mind. He’s shown something this year but he’s likely to be in the injury room for almost half the year each season.

If someone wants to pay and we can get a pick and promote others into his vacant space, adios Jack.

Yeah I'd take Butt Sholl and Murphy from Adelaide would all walk up start for us

But average games can be misleading if they missed games early in their career because they were in the VFL. Silvagni has largely been injury in recent years. Contrastingly, this will be the first time in 5 years Harry doesnt play at least 19 games. Charlie also been very durable since returning from his knee.

Actually like the idea of both playing fwd, with Moir pinch hitting through middle. Pretty mobile, challenging setup.
Agree with this. Provided the new forwards coach can devise a set up where each forward is played to their strength and not 4 blokes jumping at the one ball
