So let me get this straight.

Murphy is seen as the backup's backup option for the small forward role. All opinions aside, that's clearly the case. He's third in line behind Rash and Pedlar (the only line he really should be in is Centrelink but an argument for another day).

Yet despite this... despite being seen as a small forward in the senior team... he is never played there in the SANFL.

It just keeps getting worse and worse. There is not one justification for this selection.
And (as I’ve posted the last five times he’s been selected for SURELY the last time) he’s actually a better shot at goal from the 50 than from anywhere close to goal - yet apparently he’s a small forward.

Keays is a small forward - despite being taller than Murphy. And Keays’ work rate, intensity and pressure - and ability to kick goals despite his lack of accuracy - is so obvious it won him a club champion award - despite being things that the fans could actually see at the ground, rather than those highly valuable things that no one can actually see, or measure, or describe, which Murphy apparently brings. And which gets him dropped every time he’s selected, rather than winning a yellow jacket.

But I have hope. Ratkins is available now, we can recruit him to replace Murphy next year, because - believe it or not! - he’s actually a far better option.

Not something I’d ever thought I’d say.

Surely the follow up questions have to be:

“Why wouldn’t that get him a game and why do you continue to revert back to Murphy who has failed 4 times this year already when called up?”

“why wouldn’t you give Dowling the same opportunity who can kick more than 35 metres and doesn’t try and kill his own players?”

I can’t stand this ****head

The shock, you get it, of course you do.

News flash, Murphy’s not a forward either, doesn’t matter that’s where he lines up. 0 goals in 4 games, 1 goal assist.

We have a number of players who could play that role including Cook, Nank, Draper.
You get so triggered by anyone having an opinion that isn't following the narrative of Nicks being terrible. It must be tiring, like playing 5 hours of whack a mole every day.

Haha "news flash" I haven't seen that used much lately.

Murphy spent the first 7 years of his career as a forward. Hellllooooo? Earth to George.

There’s a reason he’s yelling Matthew

Murphy gets selected as a small forward because he racked up 28 touches

In the midfield

Thats the form argument

Murphy doesn't play midfield but forward because that's his best spot

Doesn't perform gets dropped

Dowling gets 41 and a goal and is playing SANFL this weekend

I get triggered by sycophants who just post crap defending the club, yes that’s true. I don’t understand why grown adults can’t have an opinion beyond “I support the club and will defend every decision”

He’s spent his career there, doesn’t make him a forward, the fact he’s had 7 years trying and failing is damming of the coach you keep defending who has got him to 119 games.

Surely you can see the stupidity of it? Please tell me you can and you’re not that footy ignorant

Yeah but port are shit collingwood not so, but they are a contested side.
Also we would have beaten port by 150 in the dry.

We are no 1 for contested and ground ball gets - Collingwood are 13th for contested and 17th for ground ball gets.

We just need to run them off their feet just like Hawthorn and the other sides have.

Wait, that’s a real quote? Reads like satire!

Easier to do that in the dry though.

Lets move on from the fact that none of us like Murphy in the team, he's in the team, undeservedly but he's there.

There was a stat a few weeks ago noting that 43% of the Magpies scores go through Nick Daicos, there would have to be another 10% going through Josh, so to me, that is the answer to stop them. Most games this year we haven't actively tagged or attempted to nullify the Oppo's best player through the midfield, (Bont had 37 against us, Rowell had 30, Butters 34) we have looked to run with them and looked more at stopping the others around them.

I feel that Nick is a little bit different here, I am hoping we have a lot of plans for his impact of the game, he is also very banged up, one can only hope that the plan for the kamikaze, is to kamikaze their player and not ours this time.

Team rankings on Wheeloratings is a really good source of information for future reference. Collingwood have done so well for so long that those numbers were really surprising to me.

But maybe that's why they've seemingly been found out. Stem the uncontested players, and watch their entire scoring chain breakdown.

Wondering if they are a team that just learned how to break zones better then everyone else. But as soon as you go man on man they don't have an answer

A good guide is a teams % -

Collingwood

2022 - won 16 games with a % of 104.31
2023 - won 18 games with a % of 126.97
2024 - won 13 games(2 draws) with a % of 102.47

They get to play a lot of games at the G with the support of the crowd. Now I know they do have a good away record (but generally those away games are in the first half of the season) but as the season drags on their older players (over 30) might start to struggle.

Lets have a look at the past two seasons

2023 - they played the 7 of last 8 games in Melbourne (5 @ G and 2 @ Marvel)
2024 - they played the 7 of last 8 games in Melbourne (all at the G)

Berry could be important.

Dowling does everything right and yet:

“Doesn't necessarily mean that he'll get the opportunity”

Great motivation for our young and ambitious players, well done Nicksy.

I mean, he's right. It doesn't. If our best 23 were all performing and available every week, he probably would never get an opportunity.

Oh, what's that? Four changes this week, you say? Oh... hmm.
