If we did go with CDT who would we partner him with pick 2 Durhsma or Sharp ?

Who gets partnered with Duursma. He's going pick 1.

Schubert

The melts in here would be off the charts if we took talls with our first two picks

No l believe Tom has an EXCLUSIVE that Oscar is going to a Queensland team. AND he knows it not Gold Coast. So he’s scouting around trying to find out who it might be.
Southport Sharks are playing 4D chess. We get a band 5 pick.

Did anyone watch aflw last night.

What did you notice about stoppages....

Hint, umpires didn't wait for rucks to arrive and threw the ball up immediately.

Along with no sub and 5 on the bench what are consequences next year.

Heres my take
2 rucks to played in every side, with very little time on bench and more time rested forward. One will responsible for 2/3 of stoppages in the centre and back half, the other rested forward for deep forward stoppages. All to ensure one of them makes the ball up. Rotating of course.

The other consequence will be that teams won't be able to rely so heavily on stoppage set plays the way the game has gone now. You won't see as many stoppages with 20 blokes in set positions. Ie more kaos. This will effect teams who rely on stoppage craft as there one wood and will favour ball in motion kaos teams more.

So, how do recruit/draft for this. You need mobile rucks. Do you need gut running gaff types who have the capacity to be at every stoppage or players with speed and movement patterns to get through the kaos.?
Makes a mobile ruckman who can be effective around the ground in ways other than just as a marking target more attractive - like a CDT type ruckman

CDT + Archer as a combo perhaps

Look i don't necessarily disagree with this, but its just so overated on here as an issue

Last years GF the Swans won the hitouts 42-20 and Brodie Grundy had 22 touches and was probably their best player

The premiership ruckman was Darcy Fort

Brisbane also had a midfield of Lachie Neale, Will Ashcroft, Josh Dunkley, Jarrod Berry, Cam Rayner, Zac Bailey.
There certainly seems to be a significant body of evidence that a quality midfield, or even a well schooled, hard working midfield will trump a decent ruckman.
Of course a ruckman like NN or Cox or Gawn or Grundy will improve any team. As much because nowadays a quality ruckman is not just an entity at the centre bounce.

Just noticed that in the AFLW game against GC we won the ruck contests by more than double, but still managed to lose the clearances.

Big role for Archer moving forward. Ruck/KPD/zone off a kick behind play DC style. Jack Williams in F50, could be quite the modern combo if Jack can build his tank.

I wouldn't have expected the W side to have lost the clearances at the ground. I would've had us mildly ahead.

Interesting using the two as comparitives. Same same but very different.

I like it.

No point who we draft or trade for , if we dont fix our midfield we ain't winning many more games. We just need to draft duursma and sharp, and then also look for another inside mid

With McQualter picking BW over JW its going to be a very interesting 12 months for JW.
His comments about KP players needing to be athletic, seems to be playing out in his squad selections.
Half this is on JW also as he will need to put in a big 12 months to get more athletic and more mobile to keep his position in the team longer term.
Intriguing who the coach thinks are the KPD players out there, through the draft or trade with his preferred model of athletic players.
Feels like G Stumpf, S Ainsworth are the athletic types he would likely leaning towards?
Haven't followed Stumpf recently, does anyone have any info on how he has progressed the back half of the year?
Looked like he was going to bang the door down with his testing results last year?
Anyone else out there that fits our most pressing needs of a KPD with athletic traits?

Zane Zakostelsky?

This is the question, is it possible for JW to build his tank, athletic profile to become this F50 player who can ruck well.
He seems to have fallen out of favour and needs to improve his athletic profile to be considered above BW?

Jack Williams just might not make it, he's shown some good signs but nothing that would suggest he's anything beyond a mid range prospect.

You could argue that Shanahan has swiftly gone past him and Archer Reid has been preferred for most of the season either way.

Jack has flopped at key times and had some 0 output games.

He may just not be an AFL player.

I think there's more to it than that. Jack looked like he would eventually develop into a decent KPF some day. It's pretty hard to NOT touch the ball in a game of footy though.

at many teams he would be playing every week

JW has shown plenty, and until we had injuries to all our experience KPF's he was performing at a good level.
Having to play against better KPD payers has shown he has a bit to go.
That's why my question was, can he improve his athletic profile enough for the coach to consider him in front of others?
H Edwards has turned a middle of the road athletic profile into a more AFL ready KPD, and looks leaner and more athletic through a individualised programme by the look of it.
I am no expert by a long way, but if H Edwards can do it there would be hope JW can do the same?
Or is JW carrying an injury that's hampering him?

I watched him last weekend against Melbourne /Casey Side.

They are playing him as a KPD and he played pretty well, very competitive in the air, and won most of his contests.

One to keep tabs on for our recruiters, as he plays in a position that we are thin in depth.

Don't want CDT . Vic clubs will just let us develop him and by the time he gets any good those clubs will just throw stupid offers to either blow our cap or get him for a trade probably not even getting back our initial draft capital we spent
