Given our age I just don’t think we are going to Prelim final weekend if we finish outside the 4.

We need a qualifying final win into a break to win it this year.
Pies have rested their veterans and bloodied youngsters this season.
Also the Pies pre-empt their heavy load training so they are more fresh in September.

Pies also dont rely on super athletic stars to win, they need soldiers on the ground who hold position and distribute the ball in a way so it ends up with play makers like Naicos.

I'm not too worried, the top 8 is very even and no such thing as an upset. Its a very competitive top 8 this year. Expectations are set, as long as Pies have a crack at the top 4 and the flag for the next 5 years or so, then its OK. 2023 flag bought a lot of kudos points in my book.

Like 2011, trust us to ruin a premiership.
Yes and no with 2011. We couldn't beat the Cats that year, lost 3 times to them (didn't lose to any other team incredibly), we were a genuine 2nd best team. The Cats had our number. I knew it all season, was waiting to lose that GF to them, they wanted 2010 payback and we were never tough enough against them in 2011. In 2010 be beat them on the turnover, in 2011 they brought the game back to the contest and strong armed us 3 times. I'm over it now though...I think!

Only problem is they play Poort then Essendone. They'll belt the shit out of them.

Doing a quick ladder predictor and if we win by 50, they’ll need a combined margin of 100 points. Don’t know how accurate it is, but that’s not nothing and it’s Ken’s last game and the Bombers game both coming off short breaks and they’ll have one eye on the next game.

If Bailey Smith wins the Brownlow this year before Nick, I will rage. How can Geelong cheat, cheat, cheat and cheat and get whatever they want

AFL should vetoed the Bailey Smith trade for equalisation
Even thought we lost, I would suggest the 3 brownlow votes tonight will go to Nick Daicos. Best player on the ground. Vote 2 and 1 will be more difficult to split

3-2-1 will all go to Adelaide players.

Collingwood rarely gets a vote in a loss and even 10 goal wins still have to split the votes.

Can’t isolate when 30 players are in our forward line.

We aren’t getting turnover and quick ball movement. Ball movement is slow and no forward is clunking a contested mark.
This.

Some fans here think Pies have prime Buddy, Wayne Carrey and Ablett SNR taking worldly marks with 2 players hanging off of them.

The delivery to the inside 50 was poor a lot of times.... Lipinsky, Sidey, Naicos are 3 really good inside 50 feeders.... the rest are kicking to Elliot with a defender 6 inches taller than him on his back or two players contesting Membrey.... or Mihocek in a sandwich where he's a the meat.

Whats missing is Cox or someone who plays Cox's role of getting hand on the ball with 3 defenders panicking then the ball hits ground or spill out where the crumbers like Elliot, Schultz and Hill or McCreery would kick goals from snap or fancy kicks.

Imagine 70 inside 50s with out many marks - if only we had a lightning fast small forward that takes a lot of opportunities
It really is incredible that we continually bomb the ball i50 to our biggest weakness, contested marks. Why on Earth would you keep flogging a dead horse over and over? It is insanity! Are we truly incapable of working the ball around and hit up a few short passes and create a 40m shot now and then?

We are better off playing the Crows in SA than Geelong at the MCG week 1.. All part of the script. Crows are feeble as ****, hung on for dear life tonight; was pretty obvious who the superior team was. They’ll be absolutely shitting bricks if they cop us week 1 of finals
They were coming off a 6 day break, we were coming off a 9 day break.

We threw our best at them and still came up short. Adelaide know this and would be supremely confident in any rematch in a few weeks time and would destroy us.

Last season Pies won 10 games and Naicos got 37 Brownlow Votes.

Voting is a farce these days, Umpires automatically give the stars 3 or 2 votes if they tick the 25+ disposals, 4+ clearance, 1+ goal boxes..... its to keep the bookies and AFL marketing department happy. Bookies love big names on their top 5 to get people to gamble.... more popular the players the more casual turn out.

Would be nice. But geez we have fumbled the top 4 lock.

I come in peace.

Have had the Pies as my second team since Tony Francis and Scott Russell played for them. Really good game in trying conditions and frankly, good to get a close win over you guys but can see you have turned the corner.

Hopefully see you again last week

Thanks bud. Best of luck for the rest of the year, except if you play us again. :thumbsu:

I love Mason Cox. My posting history will attest to that. I think he can still provide something but the evidence is starting to mount against it.

That said, while we probably earn another three or four opportunities that way, what doesn’t get captured is how much pace we lose from our forwardline, making it far easier for Adelaide to repel. Which is the greater value is the question, but Mason plays we don’t enjoy the inside 50 dominance that we had in my view.

Also, they were horrible conditions to carry an even slower forward that rarely clunks them any more.

I’d like him to play against the Dees, should structure permit. Before this week, I thought the opportunity was with McStay behind the ball but after that defensive showing it’s hard to see us employ that now.

Naicos last year yes. Naicos this year unfortunately I don’t think he will. I think Ed Richards will give the Brownlow a fair shake. No this isn’t bagging our Nick either.
