He’s exactly what we’ve missed for weeks
The youthful exuberance
We really should have had he, Allan and Steele playing a lot more - would have been fantastic for their development and may have given s the drive we needed
Wouldn't surprise me if Steele actually comes in for Allan against Melbourne

We are back to our best, the stats suggest that was just as good a performance as the Hawthorn game in Round 12, better in fact. That is what Fly will be preaching, the difference between that game and last was night was there opposition first and foremost. They are the real deal and we played right into their trap. Defensively and around the ground, that was the best we have played since round 12, belted them at stoppages and clearance. Our issue is clearly going into F50, and has been for weeks, if we can clean that up again and get a lot more out of forward who were very ordinary, no reason why we can't win all of our finals. If we manage to get 4th and play them again I am supremely confident we beat them, as they have achieved nothing yet, and have never been under the heat and increased pressure of a final. All night we kicked to their loose man, that wont happen next time.

So if Hill doesn't play next week, and he isn't playing VFL, that means we don't see him again.
How can you possibly play any AFL game and perform without any base of match conditioning..
As l mentioned previously, l think there's a fair bit going on behind the scenes with Bobby, and his playing future ...
Why didn’t someone ask Fly why we didn’t play Hill for at least part of the VFL game? We did it a month or so ago, he kicked three goals and then came back into the seniors with DeGoey. Then gets “gastro” (more than two weeks ago now) and is suddenly miles off being able to play.

Nobody believes the BS that is being spun. They should have just said that he is going on indefinite personal leave and left it at that, instead of spinning it into an implausible match fitness cover story.

I just think this will be more of a story in the off-season, and we may learn more then. But l agree it's becoming an unwanted distraction, when it doesn't have to be, and getting weird, lol...

How was it not HTB on Smith at CHF with a minute to go, tackled by Elliott then held it in with no attempt to get it out with McStay and Elliott both with a hand on him?

Our (purposely) light tackling made the lack of a genuine attempt glaringly obvious to everyone except those who mattered

So he picked a sub who would only play if we were miles in front?
I’m an Allan fan. But by Fly’s actions, it’s hard to not conclude that he didn’t think that Ed was capable of turning things in our favour in such a tight, contested arm-wrestle.

What alternative conclusion could you possibly draw from it?

I know we see a lot of positive, but going to sleep for two quarters and only kicking 3 goals in 3 quarters is not going to get us anywhere, whatever the conditions or the opposition.

The problem with finishing outside the Top 4 is that it likely results in an Elimination final vs the three teams who historically seemingly always have our measure more often than not: Hawks, Dogs, Giants. Gross.
Sadly, correct. If we don't pinch fourth, I think it's over red rover.

That he gave Lipinski more than enough opportunity to impact the game. On reflection change should have been sooner.

Lipinski and his forward connection is a worry. He was the best in the AFL and has fallen away. We need him and Fly really has given him a chance to regain that form.

Only guessing here of another alternative for late sub.

Isn’t the answer pretty obvious? Fly either doesn’t think Allan is very impactful or doesn't yet trust him to not make a costly error when the game is in the balance.
Who would you have subbed him in for and why?

Allan is about territory where we were dominant. We needed a bloke who could take a mark up forward or a weasel small forward who could draw a high contact free.

Hopefully we beat Melbourne next week, go to Adelaide 1st week of the finals, last night will give us the confidence and then all pressure is on Adelaide in week 1🤞

NS these are not necessarily my views but we can spin information any way you want

If I was Nicks, this is how I would analyse these points in the review
  • we gave them a 5 goal start and still in front at half time so in the future, no need to panic, we’ll get them
  • they only scored 56 points against us, barely over 20 points in the following 3 quarters, do that again and we’ll beat them by more
  • our plan of flooding D50 works brilliantly - they could have a hundred entries and and we’ll still get them on the rebound
  • our clearance game was off and we still beat them
  • I think we have more upside than the Pies bc we were down in so many areas and still won

Every coach “fears” the other teams in finals bc anything can happen but Nicks would fear us no less than any side in the 8 - why would he fear us more than any of the others?

By all means be positive NS but without watching the game how would you know what the context was behind the stats you quote?
Spot on.

Nicks would have walked away from that game supremely confident that the Crows have our measure. They’ve been the best team this season in free-flowing, high scoring games and now they’ve proven that they can win a gritty arm wrestle.

He’d be feeling very content over his weetbix this morning.

It has been poorly handled by the club.

We all know "illness" and "gastro" are diversions.

Just say personal leave and hope he gets himself sorted out with the predicament he's got himself into.

I thought Frampton was outstanding last night, yet once again he has received very little recognition. His hands were excellent from the opening minute. He remained sure handed throughout a very wet night after quarter time and showed Thilthorpe a clean pair of heels on a couple of occasions. I was mocked for suggesting he should have been an automatic selection a couple of weeks ago, yet once again he has proven to be a better performer than our captain under the heat of last night's game against the top side on the competition's most feared big man.

The recognition of his game seems to be non-existent. This has been the pattern for most of his time at the club. Play a good one and it's "he did his job" at best and not much else. Play poorly alongside other equally poor performers- he is a "spud" and a VFL hack at best. As I said, this season he is a crucial link in our defense and an automatic selection if we wish to make any progress during the final series.

Huh? I wasn’t saying we should have brought him on earlier. I was commenting on why Fly likely didn’t.

For what it’s worth, Lipinski was definitely the guy I would have dragged. He was awful. I doubt there has ever been a softer player play so many games. He is a magnificent kick to a target inside F50 but is a liability in virtually every other regard. I would prefer him out of the team altogether. Bring in Roan Steele instead.

Hopefully nicks goal at the end gives him the 3 brownlow votes. There was no one on the ground that was remotely even close to his level last night.
Let's hope so! Shame to be losing games in the process though. Sounds like we're turning into Carlton and Cripps. FMD!

Woke up this morning feeling flat still but there are a lot of positives.

We beat majority of teams playing like that. Crows give up a lot of inside 50s as it’s a stat it looks like they’re happy to concede so they can rebound and swarm on the turnover. They lost the inside 50 count by 13 when they beat Brisbane and by 6 when they beat Gold Coast by 10 goals.

If we don’t finish top 4 then so be it. We can do damage from 5th when we get a home final. The pre finals bye has reduced the advantage of winning that first qualifying final (though would still like it).

The positives I have:
  • We have one in Parker. He looks really composed and applies great pressure. Happy to keep him in.
  • Framp is back. Played a great game and found his form at the right time.
  • Shooter and Beau can hold their heads up. Missed this combo.
Could’ve been a different result if there weren’t 4 cowards on the whistle but is what it is.

My point was more that we were dominating in the area that Allan could contribute to. I don't think it says anything about trust. There was just no tactical reason to bring Allan on.

Exactly, had no intention of getting rid of ball, and an umpire is not giving a free kick in forward line, ( can’t give a free kick here, he would’ve said to himself) had it been at CHB, fair chance. They wear earpieces for a reason. To be frank, losing interest, umpiring determines the outcome of a lot of games, it was 16-5 after half time at one stage Fox put stat up on screen.

Hopefully we beat Melbourne next week, go to Adelaide 1st week of the finals, last night will give us the confidence and then all pressure is on Adelaide in week 1🤞
And hopefully with more system going into our F50. We can start by hitting up the man just outside or on the F50, and then look to hit up another short target inside F50, and not bomb it long to 30m in front of goal or to the forward pocket...
If there's a genuine one on one inside F50 then bomb it long!!

Agree on Lipinski, in a game like that he was as useful as a hole in a bucket. We dropped WHE and we certainly DID NOT miss his hardness at the contest. Time for all the cleanskins to be shown the door.
