Go and watch the game again. Murphy - and I am being glass half full - definitely reduced JDaicos impact on the game after quarter time, and was a pretty hard tag

If he kicked it away, I'd agree with you, but he kicked it in the direction of an official, and it wasted no time - gametime or real time. The only thing that made it an issue was the histrionics by dumb and dumber in the commentary box

Apart from the game itself, it’s absolutely the story of the night. Smashed in clearances and inside 50s and won. Interestingly we were very similar in terms of disposals as well, so the massive variance in inside 50s is very interesting in terms of game style on the night.

Listened to Lingy on ABC sport, we won contested possessions by 17 but we lost clearances by 14 and he stated that will be a major issue for Collingwood come September with their older legs.

He said no point winning clearances if you then lose contested possession. You are not covering the ground.

It did give us a chance to reset but exactly 9 seconds later they got a free about 30m up the ground for HTB against Keane, so effectively it was the same result.

Much whinging about nothing but poor ole Collingwood.

Now another they do is apply tackle but then let go and plead to the umpires for HTB - well of you let the tackle go, how can it possibly be HTB?

“straight to an umpire”, the umpire was about 2m away from him with his arms in the air calling the out of bounds. Even if it went downfield toward an umpire, it’s still a free kick. Unless you reckon kicking the ball 50m to the non stoppage umpire wouldn’t be a free kick. You know it is ok to admit that a free kick went our way.

It was a missed call... but honestly had no effect on the outcome

He was referring to the previous three games against Freo into Richmond then Hawthorn but then totally ignoring the 9 day break.

Structure matters, sometimes they’ve gone with 2 rucks, that would allow Jezza, any other KPF and maybe Gunston as 3rd tall, leaving both pinch hitters out. But that would probably require another massive goal kicker to be up there with Cameron.

Some of their selections don't always make sense though. Shoehorning mids into every flank and picking players who've past their best but have been selected in previous years

I think TT gets in over Naughton, his contribution in the ruck and his impact during big games and moments gets him included.

I thought Darcy hadn't played enough games? even still I think TT gets in over him anyway seeing as he has played the entire season.

The only reason we got a good run last night was because we got absolutely stiffed in the first quarter. The umpire fuelled Q1 was the only time of the game Collingwood looked any good.

The crowd got riled up, the umpires knew they'd screwed up and they spent the rest of the game compensating. Just balancing out errors with more errors.

They're inept and so badly coached it's almost indescribable.

Has anyone noticed the convoluted system they've developed this season where they umpire in pairs? One makes the decision, the other is on the other side of the play and comes in to bounce the ball / set the mark. They have to check with each other to see if the other umpire recommends a different decision. It's why there's been an increase in "out of zone" free kicks paid this season. It's by design.

A complex, intricate waste of time (for no benefit) that requires extensive training and coordination. They would have spent countless hours perfecting this dance during the preseason and it's the only thing they would be working on now, honing their craft.

Decision making? There's no time for that.

I hate the times where the ball rolls out and the decision gets made by whatever umpire is most senior before it rolls out. Let the closest umpire make their own decision.

Watching the replay, Nick Daicos thumped Brodie Smith in the chest first, Smith did the same, but because Daicos clutched his chest and fell to his knees staging like a softc***, he got the free. Pathetic.

Lost a bit of respect for Daicos over that last night, also his continuing of umpiring the game

Good point. They have to try Dowling IMHO. Over 70 possessions and 4 goals in last two games has to be rewarded. The thing is we have Laird and Max also to come back, so we could move Milera into the middle, as his skills have been excellent recently, and may just provide us with an edge there (even Max is an option). Bond's holding his spot well, so we're in a good spot down back. We've got Curtin up our sleeve too, and hopefully Rachele can get on the park for finals, as a chop out.

In fairness Footy Park traffic was an absolute shemozzle. 15,000 cars all driving the same little road in the same direction.

It didn't take me long to learn when I moved to Adelaide. Leave the second the siren goes, you're fine.

I'm glad he can laugh about it, but if we made the GF and Keays did that I would be pissed off beyond measure. He had plenty of time to handball it properly. That could cost us the winning goal in a GF. Players need to pull their head in.

I think the best was Essendon in 2000, only losing the one game by 5 points

Interesting how the reverse isn't being spoken about much

8 wins in a season is more often than not a bottom 4 finish.

There are currently seven teams putting in bottom 4 performances

15-and-a-half wins got us the minor premiership in 2017. Teams play an extra game now, granted, but 15 wins barely gets you into the eight this year. It's a bifurcated league this season, lots of good teams and lots of shit teams, not much in between.
