I'm hoping Frampton channels Presti - **** trying to position for helping defence - just lock on and don't give THilthorpe an inch. And Darcy can play with leg rope on Walker.
I'm hoping we bottomed out against Hawthorn. For some strange reason I'm confident of beating Adelaide

I think the Howe concussion rattled the **** out of us.
Yeah but it wasn't just due to Howey being universally loved.

Our boys' hearts sunk after realising it's back to the Moore shit show again.

McStay was already playing predominantly behind the footy when not in the ruck. Had to to counter their tall forwards once Howe went down. The issue wasn’t where Moore or McStay played, it was getting smacked in the midfield and on transition. Moving Moore forward wouldn’t have changed either of those issues.
So what you’re saying is we should move Moore into the middle!

I’d almost go as far as ripping Moore out of defence all together next year.
I would train him up as a running/relief ruckman to Support Cameron.
He’s athlete enough, quicker than most rucks but lacks size.
I think we will gain a lot more of an advantage throwing different looks at teams like Freo do when Jackson changes with Sean Darcy.
He could play Wing when not rucking and I’m sure he’d offer a hell of a lot more than WHE who shouldn’t get another deal.

27 players in the competition are averaging 2.5 intercept marks per game this season (Darcy Moore is ranked 7th). Of those 27th players, Moore has the third best defensive one-on-one win percentage, marginally behind only Jacob Weitering and Sam Taylor.

I hate how the media and many of our own supporters come for him whenever he has a down game, but I guess that is part and parcel of being the Collingwood captain. Calls to move him out the backline are ridiculous.

The only criticism I have of Moore is that he lacks footy smarts and has brain fade moments (EG: tap down in the 1st quarter against the Hawks), which ultimately fuel the hysteria around his form.

Moore is still an elite defender in the competition and one of our most important players coming into finals.

I am not defending Moore, as he has been awful with his decision making the last 6 weeks, but to be fair you can't use last week as an example, the pressure up the ground was the worst it has ever been under Fly. Some midfielders didn't lay a tackle, unheard of us in this new era. I am certain we will be much better this week and win, and Moore will be able to play on tex whilst Billy can shut down Filthy, who by the way is another universe compared to TDK, imagine what Filthy is worth if TDK is worth his ridiculous salary?

Sometimes stats don’t tell the whole story. The eye test from the last 5 weeks makes it very clear that he has lost so much confidence.

Nice post - as for brain fades Moore is not alone, we’ve Bruzz, ND and Howe guilty of the same.
And in defence the pressures are immense so brains fades are common in the area of the ground - or maybe more heavily scrutinized.

Stats will only tell you half the truth,at best. At worst, they will make you look like a fool.

There is not a person in this world that will watch Sam taylor play and come up with the conclusion that he is only a marginally better one on one defender than Darcy.
There is not a magpie fan in this world tha wouldnt swap Moore with Taylor in a blink of an eye.

Do you understand there are different types of intercept marks?

Moore positions himself as the spare loose defender and sits as the only player in the backhalf and "intercepts" hack bombs and takes an uncontested mark.... While the current A grade KPD are taking intercept marks in packs or 1 on 1 in defense. Tell me when was the last time you saw Moore do that? Or do you only watch stats and not the game?

An intercept mark is an intercept mark - who gives a fig if our SYSTEM prefers Moore to play as the spare.

I'm choosing to be half glass full today.

I thought his spoil in the last was really assertive and probably his best play 12 months.

He played timid in parts of 2023 and was able to turn it around. Hoping for the same and a big finals performance.

I thought the backline did pretty well overall considering they were up against probably the best forward line in the comp.

That's actually not true.

There are contested mark intercept marks, and there are intercept marks from u playing spare a kick behind the footy 80 metres from goal and marking random hack bombs from the opposition.

These are different, everyone knows that. Finding a player who does the 1st is extremely hard and they are worth huge money. Finding the 2nd is quite easy

Not sure what you don’t get - it’s irrelevant, the systems wants him to play the spare. Until he is asked to play another role needing contested interceptions and fails, then you’ll have a point.

Not sure what you don't get, when Moore is playing in the defensive 50 he isn't taking any intercept marks, or even marks at all... he just double punches it or his opponent takes the mark.

The elite KPD of the competition are taking 1 on 1 intercept marks against their opponents

How hard could that POSSIBLY be to understand the difference?

From the cheap seats, I refuse to accept Moore is the best on field leader of our club.
I'd have both Maynard and Howe ahead of him just for the leadership of the backline.

I could name 5+ players I'd prefer to hold that position.
1.Pendles - still the true on field leader/coach
2.N.Daicos - the one to put the team on his back and get us over the line. Leading the way through actions.
3.Maynard
4.Cameron
5.Howe

Unfortunately in our game, once given the role it's not challenged in following seasons without the club stepping in.
