Can someone in the know clarify something for me. We seem keen on Grlj which is fine he seems like a great kid etc but draft ranking consensus for him seems to be 15-20. So are a. The draft rankings wrong? Or b. Are we going to stretch and take him with pick 2 or 3 or c. Are we going to swap our pick 3 for picks 10 and 12 or something and take him with one of those?

I just think it’s the nature of this draft. Really only Sharp and Duursma have separated themselves from the pack. The rest have shown flashes but lots of inconsistency, so I think players ranges are really wide.

There’s a legitimate argument to take Grlj at 3 because he could be Butters like and fits our needs but he could also be Andrew McGrath. So his draft range could be 3-15 depending on the club.

Marsh is amazing over head, super athletic and great left peg. But is he a wing is he a 3rd tall. Again I could see us taking him at 3 or sliding to 10.

Lindsay, CDT and Greeves could easily go at 3 or at 12.

It’s just a flat draft waiting for kids to either break out or at least be consistently good ala Greeves.

Sharp put together a strong performance here and was one of the Bulldog’s best in a narrow win over the Crows. He split his time pretty evenly between forward line and midfield, but it was his work in the midfield, especially at stoppage, that was most impressive. With his size and strength he’s difficult to contain in contested situations even against mature bodied men, and he used that physical advantage to accumulate a significant number of clearances, as well as tackling hard as he always does.

West Coast will probably get pick 2 for Oscar Allen and take Sharpe and Dursma with pick 1 and 2 or am I missing something?

Another solid VFL debut performance from one of the 2025 draft contingent. CDT largely played forward with only occasional stints in the ruck. He showed his mobility to get around the ground, and ability to attack ground balls. He competed in the air but wasn't as clean with his hands in marking contests as you'd like which remains a bit of a concern for his prospects as a key forward, however he still found ways to impact and ended up with three goals in helping Essendon to a big win.

gets his hands in the right position, just reckon he needs to use more grippo

enough grippo that when he's in the ruck he gets 0 hitouts because the ball sticks to his hand

I think Duursma is now the obvious best fit but probably doesn't make it past WCE.

At the moment i'd probably draft Grlj and Marsh only if we think he can be a wingman or even a mid long-term otherwise just draft CDT and get a long term ruckman locked in. Not massive on CDT or ruckmen but he is probably the best option. I like lindsay, he is a great kick but is a bit one paced so will he find the space to use his kick at afl level and he will likely always be porous defensively. Don't want Sharpe, he is a great contested player but doesn't have spread and is not a damaging kick. I think at AFL level his role will only be a defensive mid and i'm not sure that role warrants a pick this high.

Today put Lindsay up against the other left foot half back Oskar Taylor who comfortably took the chocolates with his run and dare and think his skills were better through the bits I watched. 1 you'd need to use a top 4 pick, the other somehow touted a rookie. 🤔

Think Sharp is the better fit for WC, Duursma the better fit for us. They likely take both though.

It’s actually a pretty interesting draft. Despite how compromised it is, there’s still likely to be some later pick bargains. Names like Thomas Burton, Brodie Atkins or Jack Dalton regularly influential in their Coates and Champs games. The two Taylors at Eastern Ranges with their speed and competitiveness.
Seen a couple of Dalton’s games and he’s everywhere, more impressive given his injuries. Might be viewed as too small, questions on kicking, though his action looks good.
A couple of mid to late picks?…what are you thinking Blair?

If we want Duursma that badly we can surely trade up. Give 3 and 4 for 1 and their later first. If the gap is that big between him and the rest we want.

Nhh back? 5 goals and 29 touches

Hopefully get him as surplus to at least one top mid and to kick someone off the list. One of Thrillem, Sharp, Greeves, Grij, Cumming is gonna be there, we need to take one. I’d be good with any two from that group maybe apart from a Sharp/Greeves double.
Think we end up with the GG's.

If we could get a decent deal to split pick 3, you could probably still get two of:
Grlj, Farrow, NHH, Dovaston, Barker, Leray, Taylor, Onley, Fred. Emmett or Poo. Slight chance even to get a Cummings, Greeves or Bison if they slide.
Finding the deal, that’s the trick.
we're really starting to see that we need another handful of picks to bring in a complete midfield mix. cant just say oh we have tarranto and hopper so lets ignore inside mids. we need their replacements, now.

Just take best available talent at our selections irrespective of position or type
Desperation for mids is laughable , Sure ideally if there was a top end quality mid is available but if not then dont lower the talent to fill a need,
We will have Smillie , Hotton , McAuliffe , Lalor , Campbell taking up majority time in the midfield in 2 years time
plus trade and free agents after to fill the rest of the spaces left.

Best and highest level talent please
