NO TROLLS Rankine handed a 4 match suspension by the AFL integrity unit for a homophobic slur against opponent

There was a disgusting blasphemous sign in the crowd on Friday night from a crows supporter comparing one of their players to Jesus as a savour. The media specifically made sure this sign was aired on live TV at least twice
I don't think that's being derogatory toward Jesus, though. I know that offence is very much in the eyes of the recipient, and fair enough, but I didn't see enough in it that most Christians would take offence to.

What gets me is the hypocrisy of the AFL and its mission to pander to minority groups..

However If anyone in the crowd , media or a player bags Christianity or Jesus it's absolutely fair game. ( We are a country founded and based on Christian values ) That's the truth..

This is totally normal and fair game for the AFL. Nothing is said. In fact it's encouraged.. Just hypocrites..
The one that said Keaysus is our saviour? Nothing wrong with that

Cool. Not really relevant here then is it?

I mean it is.
Just highlights the AFL's complete and utter hypocrisy.

The fact that they didnt ban Rioli, and they are allowing Noah Balta to play football at all means that they are condoning the fact that you can be a violent criminal, but say the wrong word and we're coming down harshly.

It is just on a football field, I am sure he was called a this and that, poor choice of words maybe and there is no hate for a certain section behind it or anything. I just see it as a mistake, I have used homophobic words in a heated moment but had no intention that the person directed at was actually that or that I was against anyone that made that lifestyle choice.

Also is it on a microphone from the umpires or broadcasters?

I agree he is the one to blame if it is true, but if no evidence it could be a pretty petty way to make sure the best player isn't playing if someone was to make it up.

just no, that's making excuses for the act. Whether it's at midnight in the dunny at a pub, or on a football field, there is NO excuse for slurs being used. If players are too dumb to realise that they can sit out for 6 weeks and do programs that may ram it through their very thick heads.

It does not matter if it's a microphone, whatever. You know what if Issac didn't mouth off he isn't in trouble...so everything that comes off it is his own fault. maybe a suspension from all finals including a GF might be the wakeup call all players need.

Collingwood likely to finish 4th playing Adelaide week 1 of finals, would be a great way to keep the most dangerous player out. Let's see the evidence.

Is there anything more boring than a Christian imagining they are the persecuted? I don’t think so.

It's just so dumb! I mean you have a finals series of which behind Dawson and some may argue you are better...you are the second best player on the field...on what planet would you do such a thing. If guilty he has to get 6 weeks, they said the penalties would keep going up every time, Graham got 4, Andrews got 5, Rankine if guilty obviously is 6 for mine. I love Issac we all do, but if he's said this, it's beyond dumb!

The fact that the AFL has been clear on stamping this out and increasing penalties each time it happens. The fact that the penalties have gone from what Finlayson got to the Sydney guy getting 5 weeks. Plus every club does education sessions around this…

It means if you’re STILL using that language on the field after all that then you’re either not very bright, have low impulse control, use that terminology routinely in your day to day…or worse.

There were suggestions he used the word repeatedly as well.

Are slurs acceptable? Are racist slurs? Where’s the line?

I agree, this only gets done if there’s proof. Better yet, there’s an opportunity for Rankine to show incredible character to own up to it today.

I just don't like the idea of players dobbing on each other if that is what happens. It is not acceptable but it's context would of not been anything about him actually having same gender sexual interactions. It's like me calling you stupid for missing a mark, you're not mentally challenged.

Have to say, the last time I heard the Bundle of Sticks slur in public, it hit me with a bit of a wet fish slap because I have not heard it said for years. It is very, very out of date now and probably no longer qualifies for any kind of Heat of the Moment defence.

Gold Coast are coming 4th.

Literally have two dead set byes, Pies have Melbourne but they aren't playing well enough to go out and thrash Melb by 100 to put pressure on GC. Gold Coast more than likely beat Port by the same amount and have the Essendon ring in VFL side to pummel to the curb to get 4th. Pies come 5th and more than likely face Hawthorn (think Bris beat the Hawks)

I dont disagree with the bans for slurs.

I disagree with the fact that you can threaten violence multiple times to players off the field and not even get a league imposed ban at all.
Then discuss that in the Willie Rioli thread. No need to clog this thread with it. Just deflection from the issue.

Its totally relevant though.
Also...you dont look like a mod to me, so how about you mind your own business?

“Someone else wasn’t properly punished for a completely wrong action, therefore all wrong actions shouldn’t be punished” is the most inane defense.
