The big question is rolling the dice on Treloar.

I think we need one sacrificial HF and it may just be VDM for the unlucky McNeill.

Treloar for Sanders, Treloar as sub. He can be an impact player and late on the game pushing Bont forward to get dangerous in the F50 isn't the worst thing to do. He's kicked vital goals for us before and Treloar adds speed late in the game.

Treloar needs to start if he is going to play

It is quite ridiculous. I have us as favourites but it should be closer to $1.70/$2.10 sort of split.

Freo had won something like 11 of 12 games before laying an egg last week. They have a midfield that has caused us issues in the past forward of the ball and a bunch of quick half forwards and damaging tall forwards that could easily expose our lack of transition defence.
Agree if the game was in WA they would be favourites so it is ridiculous odds. Home ground advantage is worth maybe 3 to 4 goals not 6 to 8.

The fringe player roller coaster seems to have settled on a couple of solid players.
I think the constant churn during the season was pretty worthwhile in the end.
Cleary, Bramble, Baker, Buss, Garcia have all locked down spots which has allowed Bev to take a bit of a left field pick with Croft - who, if in turn can also lock down a spot, gives the coaches an enormous amount of flexibility. On paper he's got all the attributes for that pseudo 3rd tall/roaming forward role which we've been looking to fill all season. Bev must have been stoked on Croft's last month of VFL form - timing couldn't be better.

People rave about VDM and his running but our defensive running has looked it's best since he moved to the sub/out. Probably just a coincidence or my own bias but either way I don't think we've missed him much.

I agree you bring in Adz this week - start him as sub. He can impact across the ground if he comes on and starting as sub reduces injury risk.

Sanders out, Garcia has gone past him on current form. I'd keep McNeil if he's right to play for his pressure.

Backs: Lobb, JOD, Buss, Dale, Cleary, Bramble, JJ
Mids: English, Bont, Libba, Richards, Kennedy, Garcia, Williams, Baker
Fowards: Naughton, Darcy, West, McNeil, Freijah, Davidson, Croft
Sub: Treloar

How does starting him as sub reduce his risk of injury?

Fyfe was sub a month ago and injured himself in HT warm ups

If Treloar is fit he plays

I think the biggest call this week surrounds Croft and whether he plays.

Freo are a different beast to WC and the stakes are bigger.

Does Croft make us too tall and less run? What is required more vs Freo run or stretching them for height etc?

Croft may get found out for maturity size wise and given intensity of game are we better going for a more mature body?

Tough call to make over to you MC

Croft is one of our best runners just because he is tall doesn't make him immobile

Is Croft strong enough for a final type of game which it will be?

Runner yes mobile yes but game sense and strength?

"Does Croft make us too tall and less run? What is required more vs Freo run or stretching them for height etc?"

You just asked the opposite,

The answer is you don't know if he will be found out or not but given the only other option to bring in is Poulter who is physically smaller and a less physical player what other option is there,

Poulter is not the only other option but he is an one option

You can bring in Treloar and keep McNeil in and Sanders
We are talking about Bev so you can debut a player like Sellwood or Jacques for a specific purpose

Or choose Croft for a specific reason.

You've mention running capacity and physicality Croft is better at both then McNeil and Sanders both of which would make way before him for Treloar

Croft and the players you mention are different type of players and choosing one over another changes what you are probably trying to do and or achieve and how you structure up.

Croft has the same running capabilities with an extra 20cm in height

This year, we seem down for the mids winning it out of the middle, we are good at bringing it back from defence to our offence, but it puts a lot of unnecessary strain on our defenders. I think having Treloar back offsets this, and I would play him and be ready to sub him out if anything happens.

Freo have Serong as their best mid, and Dunkley sat on him, but their other very good mid is Young who was held back last week and will be in this week. It’s all or nothing for us.

I also like Crofty’s aggression and his footy smarts, is he better than McNeil, or do we go to tall if we keep him in at McNeil’s expense.
I agree with this, it is why I would keep Sanders as the Sub just in case and yes Croft does play a great defensive running game at over 2 meters possibly the evolution of what was once a small forwards role

Croft actually played Mc Neil and VDMs defensive running game, difference was he was much more dangerous going forward

I think you must go with Jordan. They really rolled the dice against WC by bring in against a team that had one win for the season there was every chance he would perform well and would not be dropped. Yes, he looks like he will be player, but it is going to be a lot harder against Luk Ryan. I think Pearce gets Sam and Astro gets Cox.

I think intercepting by Cox and the run and ball use from Clark and Young is where they can hurt us. Negate this and we are finals bound.

Genuine question, Mofra: What exactly does the sacrificial HF do? I can rarely get to a game, so it's hard to see anything that's not on the TV screen.

Block the cheap 45 exit kick from defence. Block the easy switch kick. Try and slow the opposition ball movement a much as possible on transition.

Basically run your arse off for little reward. It's why VDM often leads obscure stats like "repeat sprints" and can go long periods without touching the ball.

The other players love him for it. I'm still not convinced we need two players doing that as (as we've played most of this year).
We're arguably a lot more dangerous just playing one of them, and I expect if/when Weightman comes back that's what happens.

I'm also wondering what happens after a pre-season when Dolan has a bigger tank because his ball handling is way better than the two guys we often play in that role (VDM & McNeill).
