Ha Ha , Shiel FMD that ship sailed about 4 years ago , the chicken is fried
It sailed 2 years ago when we tried to rig a band 1 pick for Gresh or an earlier first.

Then it got sunk 12 months ago when the idiot blabbed in that channel 7 interview whilst barely playing footy

2 years 4 years , still the same outcome , he is and was cooked even 2 years ago

If the club ends up paying too much for Liam Ryan, then it's worth melting about.

Other than that, you are just assuming we will - speculation.

As pointed out by stavro#4, the club has walked away from plenty of trades in recent years because they believe it isn't value - namely Brodie Kemp.

Also Tristan Xerri, which is hindsight was a bad call but a right call at the time.

All St Kilda has shown in recent years is that if someone wants play 'hardball' and it's out of our value, we will walk away.

Three years and a trigger for fourth. 500-600k salary. Roughly late second to third round pick. Sounds okay to me.
Peatling another.
Ross said the figures for him got out of our bands we thought he was worth

(Didn’t specifically say Peatling but he was the player we missed on )

Yeah, nah Steeley Boy. I'm just going to copy and paste my post from last night.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You have got to be joking 😂

Go to bed, Steeley Boy.

Macrae has been an excellent recruit. Avg. 25 disposals and 7 clearances a match.

He is ranked 4th in the AFL for clearances per game, 5th in the AFL for contested possessions per game, top 20 in the AFL for tackles.

A poor investment? How can you get things so wrong over and over again?

We also don't know what kind of impact he is having off the field as a leader on the likes of Garcia, Boxshall etc.

This might be your worst call yet 😅

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, would love to see a source on Macrae being paid that much?
I don’t think it was anywhere near that was it?

But his influence in the 2H of the year is overinflated by his touches. I’d be entirely comfortable moving Steele on, Macrae as the wise old ball getter and plenty of time for exciting - and ready - young mids. Nas, Windy, Hall, Garcia, I think Wilson and Henry will bounce back bigly even if they won’t be in the centre square much (but you need at least one or two dashers in there these days), and Boxmania.

I agree. 1 of Steele or Macrae.

Which for me means moving Steele on

100% agree.

Macrae was recruited to keep the midfield ticking over as the younger generation comes through to replace.

He has fulfilled that and more - plus we don't know the work he has done off the field to teach the youngsters with his professionalism and craft.

I think it's a great sign if Macrae starts to be pushed out of the middle.

But the opinion that he is cooked is just so far from being accurate that it should be called out.

Still hoping we have a crack at stupid sexy Flanders. Think he’s great fit for us, could play a role at half back or in the midfield and is in the age demographic we are lacking. Without splitting a first we probably don’t have the capital to bring Aleer, Ryan and Ned in this year but a man can dream.
I think if we lose Windy then Flanders will absolutely be a target

They are definitely going after a midfielder.

Probably worthy speculation now that How good that player might be is also going to impact Windy along with Steele.

Obviously we probably had to win these games to keep nas, but not finishing bottom 6 is gonna hurt us next year in relation to fixturing. Draft wise I don’t think it’ll make too much of a difference as there is no clear top 6 but a soft draw would be nice for next years push up the ladder.

The admin are great but we are not discussing admin its list management.

Firstly we recruited Mason Wood at 26yo as a DFA we didnt have to pry him out of a contracted situation. There is a fair bit if difference and he is now 31yo and is starting to show the signs of slowing. I will be surprised if others dont go past him quickly next year.

As far as our list management is concerned it has not been perfect, but of course its all subjective.

I would suggest that the salary we took on for Macrae 1.1-1.2m per year was poorly spent $$$. He is cooked and the WB knew that hence they were so happy to get him off their books and add Matt Kennedy who has done really well for them. The Dogs had to give up a pick 6 positions short of what we gave for Macrae and I bet they are paying Kennedy much less than what we inherited with Jacks salary. Thats not good business in my view.

The recruiting of Boyd was an absolute cluster and a wasted list spot.
Adding Carroll has another questionable decision.
Hunter Clark being so injury prone should have been traded several years ago.
Re-signing Paddy Dow for me was more a compassionate move than anything else.
I believe losing Battle was poor management particularly if we are looking to become competitive in the next couple of years.
As good as Tauru may become he is going to take years before he can match it with the big boys.

The list/recruiting managers have arguably not got every thing right and I believe looking to recruit Ryan is another error. He is contracted WCE are a rebuilding side they are not going to let him go for anything short of a 2nd round selection. Unless of course we are prepared to send Collard there way.

Some supporters have the head up their backsides demanding a first round pick for Marshall and then believing we are going to Ryan cheaply.
Great list managers don’t get everything right. They just get enough right. I’m discussing admin because in my opinion we are taking a club holistic approach to improving our culture and performance.

I respect your take on the list but I have no qualms with the approach so far personally, in fact I am ecstatic with the direction we’re heading in. We’re on the right track, and I’m not sure what else we could possibly do.

  • We’ve drafted extremely well (given our picks - it’s never a sure thing)
  • We have advocated for systemic change due to inequities in the system
  • We’ve retained and lured in talent - any FA missed is not for lack of trying
  • We’re brought in proven development coaches and people like Dalrymple.
  • We’re actively working on highlight culture/family aspects of the club & are a leading club in First Nations representation.
  • Membership is only increasing, debt is stabilised if not decreasing. RSEA is a fantastic facility.
I’m on board with giving our senior players an opportunity at a tilt by rounding out our list because we have enough youth in now where rising up the ladder will only do us good. Giving the senior players a window to compete whilst also developing the younger players in a finals-level environment if all goes to plan. If it turn, it’s going to turn quick.

2 years, end of 2027 we re-assess. This is the reward for eating our vegetables for several years now and drafting youth so we have an actual cohort of promising players ready to develop rather than constantly topping up.

Players like TDK & Ryan can now be additions to round out the side rather than messiahs brought it to change everything.

Again, I have respect for the cynics, but gee why not get excited?

Oh dear

That's like asking...

"If TDK doesn't perform like we hope, instead being seen as the most overpaid player in the comp, will you rip up your St Kilda membership and buy a Geelong one instead?"
So rather than provide a pointless simile, maybe you can answer?
If you’re happy to celebrate the reward, don’t bitch about the inherent risk that accompanies it!

Can’t wait to play bulldogs twice again.

Why would anyone need to actually watch football when you can just look at stats and jump to conclusions?
Us football watchers wanted Murphy Reid last year but got hammered by the statisticians.

Excellent post, mate. Summed up everything well.

You can't change people's nature or the need to satisfy ego.
