I don't see how Ryan gets done without parting with an F2. They may even want more. I keep joking about Harley Reid but Reid and Ryan for 3 1sts works for me.

George Wardlaw is a name mentioned earlier in the year, he's still not signed beyond 2026. I really want Windy to stay, I think he's a heart and soul type, but if he wants out for that North deal - Id be asking the question of Wardlaw.

Walsh the other obvious one, I didnt see his first game back last week but by numbers he looks to have dominated yet again.

Then we've got Flanders who might be a good, cheapish option.

What other mids could we be after?

With TDK, Aleer, Ryan, Fincher, R1 draftee and probably an upgrade- theres not a lot of spots free without losing someone who is contracted (Roma, Steele).
We ain’t getting Reid.

So rather than provide a pointless simile, maybe you can answer?
If you’re happy to celebrate the reward, don’t bitch about the inherent risk that accompanies it!
Maybe you haven't grasped my point.

I'll elaborate.

All of us here will celebrate the Saints wins and feel frustration at the losses.

For life.

Irrespective of whether we agree or disagree with the decisions that led there.

Suggesting that I shouldn't celebrate a Saints flag because I got something wrong, is just as nuts as me expecting you to throw in your Saints support if you get something wrong.

So, to answer your question.

I haven't given up supporting the Saints just because they've made a list of poor decisions that I disagreed with, that have subsequently hurt the club. Where I turned out to be right.

I'm Saints for life.

They've made poor decisions that limited our success but I stuck fat.

And similarly, I most definitely won't stop supporting the club if I turn out to be wrong on this occasion, and they make a decision that leads to success.

All of us are on the same page here - we all want success for the Saints

I find it truly bizarre reading some of the responses from those who disagree with others ideas about how to get there.

This is what makes me feel like it's going to be difficult for us to snare him.

The money is going to be huge from nearly every club and will be hard for us to compete - unless we look primed for success after a huge 2026 ala what Hawthorn did suddenly.
You can’t factor in when players hit that rich vein of form when you chase them.

If Brisbane get wind that he won’t sign for the money they can offer. He might be traded this October. But they probably back themselves to try as I think he is a RFA next year.

Great list managers don’t get everything right. They just get enough right. I’m discussing admin because in my opinion we are taking a club holistic approach to improving our culture and performance.

I respect your take on the list but I have no qualms with the approach so far personally, in fact I am ecstatic with the direction we’re heading in. We’re on the right track, and I’m not sure what else we could possibly do.

  • We’ve drafted extremely well (given our picks - it’s never a sure thing)
  • We have advocated for systemic change due to inequities in the system
  • We’ve retained and lured in talent - any FA missed is not for lack of trying
  • We’re brought in proven development coaches and people like Dalrymple.
  • We’re actively working on highlight culture/family aspects of the club & are a leading club in First Nations representation.
  • Membership is only increasing, debt is stabilised if not decreasing. RSEA is a fantastic facility.
I’m on board with giving our senior players an opportunity at a tilt by rounding out our list because we have enough youth in now where rising up the ladder will only do us good. Giving the senior players a window to compete whilst also developing the younger players in a finals-level environment if all goes to plan. If it turn, it’s going to turn quick.

2 years, end of 2027 we re-assess. This is the reward for eating our vegetables for several years now and drafting youth so we have an actual cohort of promising players ready to develop rather than constantly topping up.

Players like TDK & Ryan can now be additions to round out the side rather than messiahs brought it to change everything.

Again, I have respect for the cynics, but gee why not get excited?
Well said.

The thing with Ryan is we don't need him to come in and kick 2 goals a game. 25-30 goals would be great. This could be our forward line if he comes in, and all are fit and firing:

Ryan Sharman Owens

Higgins King Marshall

Every player in there is an aerial threat, something we've been blatantly missing this last year, and most are dangerous on the ground as well. Also, every player there could kick a bag if they're left unattended or if they can pull a mismatch, and the more threats there are, the greater chance there is that someone like Ryan is getting that mismatch.

If our aim is to play finals next year, and if the we can turn say a future 2nd, a future 3rd, and a player like Heath into say Aleer and Ryan, then I'm all for it.

Where's Hall? Seems to be handy for an occasional stint in the middle, but he's clearly an elite half forward. Much like a forward version of Sincs.

A fit Henry should be better than a 29 year old Ryan, 1 goal per game Ryan as well.

I agree with much of this.

People who oppose TDK's signing aren't suggesting we throw everything out, trade Sinclair and Wilkie and go scorched earth.

We're suggesting TDK doesn't replace much that Marshall isn't already doing (in the next couple of years), or not enough to justify giving him the biggest contract in AFL history, which may hurt the club 3, 4, 5 years from now, as we've seen with others like Grundy and Treloar at Collingwood, McGovern at Carlton, potentially McKay at Essendon, etc.

Now say it with me.

Phillipou = Big (190cm)

Ryan = Small (179cm)

We have covered already the difference between Ryan Higgins Henry Butler Hall.

Only Ryan is good overhead head or has an elite leap from that lot.
Well Stav, Phillipou is big at 190cm now but at the rate at which he's shrinking he'll likely end up as a small forward in another few years. During his draft year his S.A.club (Woodville West Torrens) had him at 192cm. And this from SANFL coach, Tony Bamford :"He's your prototype AFL midfielder. He's 192cm and still growing so he will probably get up to 194cm." When he arrived with us as a 17yo he lost 2cm and even now he's listed on the Saints and AFL websites at 190. Given the AFL's sensitivity in releasing details of player's weights it's somewhat ironic that I can track incremental increases in his weight from 79 to 89kgs. Yet he doesn't appear to have gained 1cm in the 3 years he's been with us. I suppose we should be grateful he isn't 184.

Long is the only ex I would want to entertain.

Gresham, hell no. Acres not what we need. Members too old. Who else is there?
Campbell.

Imagine the depth: TDK, Marshall, Heath, Dodson, Keeler, Campbell.

Campbell is a break in case the emergency of the emergency of the emergency of the emergency’s mother-in-law’s pet dog are all injured.

We haven't seen Caminiti play as a forward after his development in defence. Maybe his IQ/craft wouldve improved after playing on the competition's best forwards. We shouldn't conclude anything until we see him in the F50 for at least a few games

And his goalkicking isn't that bad - is actually quite good IIRC. Checked stats and its 4.1 for the year. 53.3% goal accuracy for his career. It's his field kicking/decision-making that is below average imo - and that doesn't matter as much in the forward half

You only need to watch him play to know that his goalkicking is poor. He'd be a 50/50 chance of kicking a set shot from 35m out, directly in front.

We've seen Hammer be a borderline liability/decoy at best in the forward line for two seasons and then look far more effective off no pre season tuition in defence. I agree that his field kicking in the forward half is poor - this requires precision kicking and good decision making. From defence he can handball off to a runner, switch to an open teammate or kick long down the line.

I'm not shitting on Hammer - I genuinely rate him as a defender and think he has a bright future. Just not as a forward
