Great changes this week.
It feels a lot better with attacking players
Everyone is shocked by the logic of the coaching / selection committee. It's disappointing it has taken so long.

But you have to wonder about the thought going into selections.
Why wouldn't they give that sub role to Dowling last week.
Harry was in a no win situation, your career comes down to one quarter and a half
And papers are marked after one mistake with a kick out on the full

I'm hoping to see some better ball movement forward this week.

Our three medium/small forwards will be Taylor, ABN and Keays.

I expect Draper and Dowling to play a combination of midfield and forward.
Who will tag Norths best player?

I need you to tell me - Im scared

Feels like these changes are fan service after the week we’ve had.

Draper and Dowling have an opportunity to make their case now. A few good games could see them with a premiership medal in a months time. Best of luck to all.

Will be interesting to see what Dowling’s role is, as he’s been performing as a midfielder. Feels like we are one forward option down on where we’ve been earlier in the season, so he might spend some time up there as well.

Still Pedlar as an option to come back for finals along with Max and Rachele, likely competing with Draper/Dowling/Taylor for the last spot, noting Smith can still come out with someone else to be used as sub. Plenty for the players coming in to play for.

Excellent and quite predictable changes.

I thought we might have gone for Nankervis over Draper but I am pleased that we opted for Draper, more potential upside?

We only had Jones and Strachan on the injury list in round 1. It would be fair to suggest that our round 1 team was what we considered our best 22 plus Draper as Sub.

Since Round 1;

Out - Michalanney, Sholl, Rankine, Rachele, Crouch
Only Sholl is available this week.

In - Bond, Taylor, Berry, Dowling and Smith

Since Michalanney, Rankine and Rachele are certain best 22 players, the only changes to our best 22 since the start of the season seem to be Taylor and Berry for Crouch and Sholl.

Outside our current best 22 (assuming Taylor and Berry make it) we have tried Borlase, Butts, Bond, Smith, Sholl, Nankervis, Cook, Jones, Crouch, Schoenberg, Murphy, Pedlar, Burgess, Draper and now Dowling. I think it would be fair to say that none of these players has shot the lights out when they have been given a chance. Imho Butts, Bond and Smith have offered the most.

Will Sid and Billy make our selectors look foolish by their feats over the next five weeks? I bloody hope so but I wouldn’t bet on it. The only players on our list not to play AFL this year are Ryan (injured and not a great year prior to injury), McAndrew (injured), Toby Murray (showed some promising signs prior to injury), Gallagher (no/not yet) Welsh (no/not yet) and Edwards.

I have questioned why Dowling and Edwards haven’t been given a few games but they are the only fringe players not given a crack so far.

If Rachele and Michalanney return and we have no more injuries it will be interesting to see who makes the cut for the finals.

We have only used a full-on forward tagger on 4 occasions this year. Michalanney against Richmond (Vlaustin) and the three times Murphy has made the 22. As I said earlier in the week, there are no game breaking defenders for the Roos so Taylor will play the defensive forward role this week.

I know you are trying to be clever. We were really lucky that Josh Daicos played his worse game for the season last week. Surely it couldn’t have been good coaching, #S#sacknicksIf we do decide to lock down on an oppositions outlet player during the finals then I hope we use Bond or Michalanney however the end of Murphy may be celebrated a bit too soon by the very clever selectors on Bigfooty.

Except Josh didn’t play his worst game for the season and another post trying to portray your own football “intelligence” whilst belittling the board.

Love the selections given what we have available but it just makes last weeks selections even stranger.

I understand Murphy was in for a tagging role but Taylor has been doing this role and there is no reason Keays couldn’t do this as well. The benefit is that these two can get dangerous and not limit us offensively.

Schoenberg in and out seems like a classic waste of time. If we were legit about giving him a final chance he would have a few games not one as sub.

Yeah Draper and Dowling coming in is great, but talks about how poorly we’ve managed the last 8 weeks with selection.

We had plenty of opportunities to try new players and see how they’d fit in. Now we’re effectively trying two new players with 1 game to go.

If Draper and Dowling play well, do they stay in with a form line of 1? If they don’t star, do we go back to players we know won’t work like Murphy?

Getting games into Murphy, Shoenberg, Jones and Burgess has been a waste.

Taylor and Cook not so much since at least we know with each player now.

But he’s put us in such an awkward spot now. If he plays well then we keep him, but his only AFL game for the year is a dead rubber against North before a week off and then he’s in a QF.

Not enough forward planning at selection once again I feel.
To be fair I dont think Dowling was anywhere near the conversation for this year

It just so happened the week we had combined with the right injuries has - tin foil hat - forced us to bring in the 2 lads

Then it will be - '' they need to work on certain aspects of their game '' and super tagger Murphy will be back

I think even the thought that Nicks may have employed good coaching, strategy and role players to win a game of football makes some posters physically ill.

Bond is still finding his feet at AFL level, throwing him onto Zorko or Daicos would be rough I think.

MM for sure, hopefully fully fit by week 1 of finals.

I have provided the stats on Josh Daicos. Did you think he had a good game?

What Murphy did was not rocket science. He tried to be an arms length from Josh Daicos every time the other Collingwood defenders had the ball. His uncontested possessions (excluding kick outs) were nearly halved.

Is it worth sacrificing a player to ensure Josh Daicos isn’t setting up their attacks? Check the Gameday thread and the GBU from our game against Collingwood at the MCG earlier this year. I think the answer is yes.

Is Murphy the best man for this role? Imho the answer is no but I would not be surprised to see him selected to play this role at some stage in the finals.
